11:45 Mass. Registration and Parental instruction are required
before Baptism. Please call the Rectory for an appointment
several weeks before the desired date.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE:
Marriages are to be arranged at least six months in advance,
and prior to any social arrangements. Pre-Cana Conferences
required. Schedule is given during the first appointment with
the priest.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK & VISITATION OF THE SICK:
Please call the rectory to arrange for the Sacrament of the Sick
and Communion to be brought to the sick and shut- ins.

NO COMPARISONS
How many times have we read or heard about someone who’s gotten into trouble—maybe even fired
from a job—because of a brush with the law? While
our “Christian” minds tell us to be sorry and even
pray for the person, a little voice inside our heads
may also be saying, “I’m glad I would never do
anything like that.” And perhaps we wouldn’t. But
are there some things we do that are still not pleasing
in God’s eyes? Today’s readings caution us not to
look so intently at someone else’s wrongdoing or
shortcomings, that we overlook our own
weaknesses and shortcomings. When we measure
ourselves against the worst people we can think of,
we come out looking pretty good. There is a danger,
however, in using someone else’s behavior as a way

of reflecting our own goodness.
JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
Today’s Gospel graces us with a beautiful prayer that
can make every day of our lives a jubilee of mercy: “O
God, be merciful to me a sinner” Religious Israelites
despised the tax collector who prayed it, for collaborating with Gentile occupiers and handling currency
that bore the “divine” emperor’s graven image. But the
Pharisee’s long-winded self-congratulation, mixed
with self-righteous condemnation, was no “prayer” at
all. “The Pharisee . . . spoke this prayer to himself”.

Wejście w treść i formę „Godzinek” może zadziwić
niejednego teologa z racji wielkiego ładunku doktryny i
wysokiego polotu teologicznego, jakie w sobie
posiadają, nie mówiąc o prostocie ich wykładni. Od
razu rodzi się pytanie o ich genezę i cel, i wtedy
otwiera się całe ich bogactwo. Nazwa tego
nabożeństwa wiąże się z ich powstaniem na wzór
pacierzy kapłańskich (liturgii godzin, zwany
brewiarzem), które z tej racji, że są o wiele prostsze i
krótsze, nazwano „godzinkami”. Znaczy to również, że
niekoniecznie musiały być śpiewane w poszczególnych
porach (tj. godzinach brewiarzowych) tak, jak zostały
ułożone, ale jednym ciągiem, prezentując w ten sposób
różne aspekty tej samej prawdy, o której traktują. A
mówią o Najświętszej Maryi Pannie, a dokładniej, o
tajemnicy Jej Niepokalanego Poczęcia, przedmiotu
wielowiekowej dyskusji teologicznej o której Kościół
jeszcze w tamtym czasie, kiedy one powstawały (XV
lub XVI w.), się oficjalnie nie wypowiadał. Pod tym
względem Godzinki stały się swoistym teologicznym
zwiastunem i uzasadnieniem prawdy ogłoszonej
dogmatem dopiero trzy wieki później, w 1854 r.
Nie wiadomo dokładnie, kto był ich autorem i kiedy je
spisał. W każdym razie musiał być to człowiek
wykształcony teologicznie i pobożny, tzn. żyjący
prawdami, o których traktował. Tradycja przywołuje
postać niejakiego Leonarda Norgola, franciszkańskiego
teologa z Werony (Italia), który był żarliwym obrońcą
Niepokalanego Poczęcia w dobie ostrej dyskusji
teologicznej XV w. Inni historycy podają jako ich autora
niejakiego hiszpańskiego teologa Piotra Rodrigueza
(XVII w.). Niezależnie od tego, kto był ich autorem,
teksty te przetłumaczono na j. polski (być może
przekładu dokonał słynny jezuita ks. Jakub Wujek,
tłumacz Biblii na j. polski) jako „Godzinki o
Niepokalanym
Poczęciu
Najświętszej
Maryi
Panny”.Tym, co przydaje im dodatkowego waloru,
oprócz wspomnianych wyżej racji, jest ich głębokie
biblijne
uzasadnienie,
przyrównujące
starotestamentalne postaci świętych niewiast do Maryi,
jako Matki Boga i człowieka. Pod tym względem
wszystkie te postaci są figurami wskazującymi na
Maryję, w której spełniają się zapowiedzi Starego
Testamentu.
