ARCHDIOCESE OF CHICAGO
OFFICE OF THE ARCHBISHOP
Spring 2016
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
On Mother’s Day, each of us will have an opportunity to join in the Church’s sacred mission of charity
through our donations to Catholic Charities Mother’s
Day Collection. Funds raised from the collection will
be used to help struggling families and individuals
living right in our own communities.
With 150 programs at 164 locations throughout Cook
and Lake Counties, Catholic Charities annually
serves more than one million poor and vulnerable
people of all ages, races, religions and economic
backgrounds. Catholic Charities helps people overcome the challenges of poverty, hunger, homelessness, joblessness, mental illness, abuse, and aging.
Low-income families, at-risk children, courageous
veterans, and vulnerable seniors rely on Catholic
Charities for food, clothing, shelter, and a host of
other services.
Mother’s Day is the one day set aside for Catholic
Charities to request the financial support of each of us
in the parishes. Please show your support for the
great mercy of the Church by contributing to Catholic
Charities during the second collection, or make your
donations directly to Catholic Charities at 721 N. LaSalle St., Chicago, IL 60654, or
www.catholiccharities.net/donate. Now is a particularly important time for us to give generously, as
Catholic Charities must contend with the repercussions of the Illinois state budget crisis, which has
placed tremendous financial stress on their ability to
serve the poor and vulnerable.
During this Jubilee Year, let us take up the Pope’s
challenge to bring the transformative power of God’s
infinite mercy into our world. Working together, we
can raise up our brothers and sisters in need, providing compassion and concrete support to propel them
to a new life filled with hope and dignity. Many
thanks for considering a gift to Catholic Charities.
May God bless you and your families.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Revered Blase J. Cupich
Archbishop of Chicago

Topic: “The Catholic Climate Covenant: Calling
Catholics to Care for Creation”
Presented by: Dr. Mark Potosnak
Hosting Parish: St. William Church
About The Topic: Why are Catholics called to care
for creation? What does the Catholic Church teach
about the moral aspects of climate change and environmental issues? What solutions to the problem of
climate change resonate with this Catholic perspective? DePaul University Environmental Science and
Studies professor and Ambassador for the Catholic
Coalition Covenant Dr. Mark Potosnak seeks to answer these questions.
About the Speaker: Dr. Mark Potosnak is an associate
professor in the Department of Environmental Science
and Studies at DePaul University. Dr. Potosnak’s scientific training is focused on interactions between
plants and the atmosphere, and in particular the role of
climate change in this interaction. Dr. Potosnak has
degrees from Harvard and Columbia Universities, and
he was in the Advanced Study Program at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Dr. Potosnak
has been trained as a Climate Ambassador for the
Catholic Climate Covenant, and in this role he brings
his scientific understanding together with his faith life
as a Catholic.
A small reception will follow discussion!
MAY CROWNING-MAY 15th
Catholics have long honored the
Blessed Mother by placing a crown on
her image. Crowning a statue of the
Lord's Mother is symbolic of the honor
we give her as the one chosen by God
to bear His Son, our Salvation.
We will crown Our Blessed Mother in song and
prayer on Sunday, May 15 immediately following the
12:00 mass. Please join us as we process through and
around the Church in song and prayer and Crown our
Lady to celebrate this beautiful tradition.

Parish and learn about the three different Churches
that make up our history.

Parish evolved over the years will be shared, along

Parishioners for a tour down memory lane.
MOTHER’S DAY IS MAY 8TH!!
As in year’s past, we will have special Mother’s Day
envelopes in the middle of church or at the rectory, so
all Mother’s will have a chance for prayer. Place
your envelope in the basket on the altar. We will
pray for them during the whole month of May!

many as possible parishioners are invited to participate. It is a short survey, only 24 questions, you can

MEDYTACJA AD IEDZIEL Ą EWA GELIĄ
6 iedziela Wielkanocna – Miłość i pokój ucznia
1. Zachowywać naukę Jezusa. Pan Jezus mówi apostołom, że oczekuje od nich miłości, która ma się wyrazić w
przyjęciu Jego słowa i wprowadzaniu go w życie.
To właśnie On odkrywa aktualność Ewangelii w każdej ludzkiej sytuacji.
Będąc swoistym Artystą, chce w nas odtworzyć obraz Jezusa Chrystusa. Jeżeli pójdziemy odważnie za Jego
natchnieniem, stopniowo rysy Jezusa pojawiać się będą w naszym życiu. Jak odczytujemy natchnienia duchowe, które
uczą nas zastosowania Ewangelii w życiu?
Wysoka” przed Zeslaniem Ducha Swietego!
