The children we serve with you are empowered to reach their fullest potential through education, religious formation and sacraments, health care, vocational training and life skills programs, to become moral and responsible Christians and citizens. The dedicated native religious communities of sisters, priests and brothers who work with us in our global mission sites have the knowledge and skills to bring these children the critical resources they need to grow into mature, self-reliant adults formed in Catholic values and teaching. Father Rich LoBianco, Caritas’ Director of Catholic Mission will preach at all the Masses, thanking and updating those who partnered with us the first time we were here, sharing more news of our evangelizing mission, inviting us to be part of the Church’s 1ew Evangelization, the universal movement to love one another in our call to serve others, manifesting God’s love and enriching all of us. Page Four St. William PRESCHOOL NEWS KINDERGARTEN UPDATE The preschoolers recently listened to the story “The Rainbow Fish” written by Marcus Pfister, which is a book about sharing. Rainbow Fish is the most beautiful fish in the ocean. One day a little fish admired his beautiful scales and asked if he could have one. But the Rainbow Fish would not share. Rainbow Fish was very unhappy because the other fish ignored him. So he went to visit the wise octopus. The octopus encouraged him to give his scales to the other fish. Each time he gave one away he felt happiness and realized the importance of sharing with others. After hearing the story each child made their own Rainbow Fish. We created our own ocean scene on the wall outside our classroom with our fish and have added other creatures to it. After finding February full of days to celebrate – Ground Hog Day, Fat Tuesday, Valentine’s Day and our 100th Day of School, our Kindergarten class looked forward to March and April and the arrival of Spring along with learning new things. We celebrated “The Week of the Young Child” which is a week in which we promote Early Childhood Education. During the week we learned about the importance of eating good food and exercising to stay healthy. We had “Guest Readers” visit our classroom and read stories to our class. We finished the week by having a “Career Day”. Each child dressed up as what they wanted to be when they grew -up and told the class why. It was a very busy and fun week. We learned the value of our US coins and how you need to make choices when spending your money. Each of us was given a bag of coins, and we had several choices: we could spend all of our money, and either buy several small items, or we could buy one large item, or we could buy some small things and save the rest of the money. We all had a great time with this activity. We helped make a beautiful reversible Black Hawk fleece full-size blanket as our class item for the Silent Auction for the Blue & White Ball. We each helped tie the fringe knots. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with green drinks and cupcakes. We welcomed Spring by doing several writings of what we like to do and how we like seeing the new life around us. We prepared daily for Easter by learning all about Christ’s life and Resurrection. We had our Easter party, including an egg hunt with our 8th grade buddies, and decorated eggs. We are looking forward to the last two months of the year by doing a lot of reading, writing, addition, subtraction, and getting ready for our Kindergarten celebration in May. Happy Spring everyone! St. William Page Five SPECIAL ENVELOPE FOR MOTHER’S DAY Everyone wants a mass said for their mom or deceased mother on Mother’s Day, May 10th. As we do every year, we will have a special Mother’s Day envelope. You can find the envelopes on the tables at the entrances of church. Just fill out the envelope with the names of the mom’s in your family, put in your donation and put the envelope in the basket on the altar. Our mom’s will be prayed for all during the month of May. MAY CROWNING-SUNDAY, MAY 10 May is the Month of Mary! St. William Church will crown Our Blessed Mother in song and prayer on Sunday, May 10 immediately following the 12:00 mass. Catholics have long honored the Blessed Mother by placing a crown on her image. Crowning a statue of the Lord's Mother is symbolic of the honor we give her as the one chosen by God to bear His Son, our Salvation. Please join us to celebrate this beautiful tradition FIRST FRIDAY DEVOTIONS St. William Continues: FIRST FRIDAY MASS TO HONOR THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS First Friday’s have always been devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
