The mine is designed to attack the weaker armour on the sides and rear of a military vehicles.
MPB-ZN can be triggered by the influence fuze, based on infra-red and acoustic sensors, that is also fitted with an
anti-handling device. Acoustic sensor detects approaching vehicles and activates the infra-red sensor, which
triggers the mine at an optimal moment as the target passes its optical axis. The mine can be programmed to selfdestruct after several days have passed. MPB-ZN’s warhead uses the Misznay–Schardin effect to project an
explosively formed projectile (EFP) to an effective range of 50 meters, where it can penetrate at least 100
millimeters of rolled homogeneous armour (RHA) plate. The energy carried by the projectile is large enough that it
can often significantly damage a vehicle that it hits even if penetration is not achieved. During deployment of
mine, it is recomended to hide it from direct view of the expected targets, off to the side of a probable vehicles
route. The mine is also avaliable in training and mock-up versions MPB-ZN/Sz and MPB-ZK/C.
