BOŻE NARODZENIE
CHRISTMAS DAY
Prawdą niewątpliwą jest to, że Bóg jest
zawsze z nami, Bóg jest zawsze po naszej
stronie. Długa genealogia Jezusa w
dzisiejszej Ewangelii podkreśla ten fakt, że
Syn Boży, Bóg-Człowiek, wszedł nie tylko
w ciało ludzkie, ale także w ludzką historię
i w ludzką codzienność, w ludzkie życie i
w ludzkie sprawy. To wejście nie dokonało
się w sposób uroczysty i pompatyczno-podniosły, ani tym bardziej
słodko mdły. To wejście Boga w życie człowieka dokonało się nie bez
problemów, jeszcze przed Jego narodzeniem. Nie ma w tym nic
wzniosłego, ani patetycznego, kiedy Józef czuje się zaambarasowany
faktem, że oto Maryja jest już w stanie błogosławionym, jeszcze przed
oficjalną ceremonią zaślubin. Możemy sobie tylko wyobrazić jak
bardzo kłopotliwa i niezręczna była taka sytuacja i dla Józefa, i dla
Maryi … A co powiedzieć o narodzinach nie w aseptycznych
warunkach klinicznych lecz w stajni, wśród zwierząt? Gdzie tu miejsce
na wzniosły i patetyczny nastrój? Gdzie cała ta lukrowana otoczka
Świąt Bożego Narodzenia, którą nam od tygodni serwują „małe
kupczyki” i „wielkie magazyny”? Im przecież nie chodzi o
przypomnienie nam faktu narodzin Boga wśród ludzi, ale o pretekst do
zrobienia dobrego interesu.
Bóg jest tak głęboko wkorzeniony w ludzką historię, w ludzkie życie,
że nie waha się stać się człowiekiem w sposób jak najbardziej
naturalny i żyć ludzkim życiem z wszystkimi jego biedami i kłopotami.
Bóg jest tak daleko z człowiekiem, że nie unika
nawet ludzkiej niedoli, ludzkiej biedy i ludzkiej
śmierci.
A jeśli BÓG JEST Z NAMI to któż przeciwko
nam? Jeśli Bóg jest z nami, to my nie bądźmy
przeciwko samym sobie! Nie daj się pochłonąć
drugorzędnym uniesieniom. Nie daj się
zwariować przedświątecznym zakupom i
zobacz raczej to, co najważniejsze w czasie
świąt Bożego Narodzenie, że Bóg stał się
człowiekiem dla twojego zbawienia!
Carols, cards, trees, and gifts are only a few of the many traditions which
annually come alive with the celebration of Christmas. They are all tied
together with various meanings and memories from as long ago as our
childhood days. These customs, beautiful as they are, do not touch the
very heart of Christmas, but are only extensions of its central meaning.
If we are looking for the real message of this day, we should not search
for it on the department store shelves or in any Television Christmas
special. We turn to the church to bear why this day has such deep
significance, although we have heard the story a thousand times before.
The most meaningful Christmas sermon ever heard was not preached by
Bishop Sheen, Norman Vincent Peale, nor Billy Graham, nor by any
Pope or saint. It was not spoken by any human but delivered in song by
an anonymous choir of celebrating angels. We find their melodious
words in the second chapter of Luke’s Gospel: “GLORY TO GOD…
PEACE On EARTH.” That message from heaven, delivered on the
night of the Savior’s birth, holds the everlasting key to the attitude we
should have toward Jesus, His earthly birth and the objective of His
mission. “GLORY to God” is a brief but powerful prayer of adoration
acknowledging His unexcelled dignity. It tells of His infinite power and
our weakness in comparison; His wisdom in the face of our foolishness.
Glory to God! How can we ever understand the depths of HIS love for
his wayward people? We realize the insignificant of our thanks for His
blessings freely given, and we can only gratefully repeat: “Glory to
God.” Peace on earth is the Lord’s mission statement set to music. We
still pray and work for it, for our distraught world is filled with violence,
hatred and mutual mistrust. The Lord Jesus has been born, but His
golden objectives are still awaiting birth on our tiny island in space. We
have not taken seriously the message of the Peacemaker. You give glory
to God when you extend yourself to another and thereby create a small
atmosphere of peace on earth. Your kind words naturally invite other
kind words from your neighbor, and that could start a pleasant chain
reaction to produce peace on earth. Selfishness breeds contempt, and
hatred turns to war but love, like a seed, germinates and grows into
everlasting goodness.
As in all the Christmas Masses, as well as in other liturgies thru out the
year, we happily join prayers with those of the angels. We re-echo once
again the meaning of the day, the meaning of the Church, the mission of
Jesus, and the song of the angels “GLORY TO GOD…PEACE ON
EARTH.”
