THE BLESSING WE RECEIVE
The blessing we experience in Christ
Jesus is proclaimed in Numbers as the
special blessing for the people of Israel.
They and we are to be blessed by the invocation of God’s loving kindness, the
shining glory of God’s face turned toward
us in love, not away from us in anger. We
are blessed by God’s own peace!
Our wish and our hope are fulfilled in this blessing,
which is made visible in the coming of Jesus. In Jesus,
the image of the invisible God, God’s face is shown to us
and God’s presence is made known to us in faithful and
loving kindness.
The second collection this week
is for Higher Utility and Energy Costs.
Next weekend’s second collection is designated
for Parish Obligations to the Diocese.

DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION
Today, January 1st is the first Sunday of the month and devotion to the Divine Mercy will be at 3:00pm followed by Benediction. This is an excellent opportunity to begin the New Year
by dedicating ourselves and our families to the Divine Mercy.

BASILICA HEATING SYSTEM
We reported in previous bulletins that one unit of our heating system in our Basilica is on “life-support” and is failing
due to age and fatigue. We were advised by Wheeler Co., who
supervises our heating system, to replace it with a new one.
Since we currently don’t have the money to buy a new one
and because it is wintertime and difficult to obtain and install
in cold weather. Therefore we were advised to overhaul the
present system at a cost of $3030, including labor.
Meanwhile we are grateful for donations toward the new unit
from Anthony and Sheila Kusek for $2,500, Theodore and
Helen Dawicki for $2,000 and Msgr. Anthony Czarnecki for
$500.
We are grateful to our donors for their generosity and their
sensitivity to the needs of our Church.

For your information our parish records indicate the following
for 2016: New families registered to the parish 21; Baptisms 9; Deaths - 26; First Holy Communion recipients - 23; Confirmations - 13; Marriages - 3.
Also Msgr. Czarnecki and Father Gregory made many sick
calls to parishioners as well as non-parishioners who were in
need of the sacraments.
NEW YEAR MESSAGE
We welcome the Year 2017 with anticipation and much
anxiety.
The ending of the year and the beginning of the new is a sentimental moment and even nostalgic when we reflect on all the
things that happened in the past year and look with concern for
what lies ahead for us. Somehow the welcoming of a new year
is associated with a lot of loud noise and fireworks which illuminate the night with a blaze of light. This custom has a long
tradition in Roman times where people believe that ghosts and
evil spirits might slip into the darkness of night and into our life
and therefore the din should frighten them. Each new year
brings new challenges and new visions in our parish
community, and in our own personal lives.
As we say farewell to the old year, we should thank God for
all the blessings we enjoyed this past year.
On the beginning of the New Year we should concentrate on
the gift of time. In 2017, we will witness many changes in the
life of our society and our own. We will grow older, maybe we
will experience growth in faith and revitalize the life of prayer.
This is a time of resolutions which affect our own lives, our
families and our St. Joseph Basilica Community. To live a fulfilled life, we have to become a better person and dedicate our
life to service of our loved ones and our Church.
Together with the shepherds, may we rediscover the Baby
Jesus wrapped in “swaddling clothes” the power of God which
will guide our lives throughout the New Year.

NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
Please join us on Wednesday evening, January 4th at 7:00pm
for our continuing Novena and Devotion to our Patron. St. Joseph had a pivotal place at Jesus’ birth. He was knocking on
doors to find a place for the Christ Child and that’s something
he’s still doing today—knocking on the doors of our hearts and
seeking out a place for his Son to dwell within us.
He reminds us of his role as protector of Mary and Jesus and
today we can ask him to also protect us throughout the New
Year.
You may write your intentions legibly, on the forms available in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel, which will be
read during the novena. Mass will be offered for those who
place petitions and offerings. Members of the Parish Council
will bring our Patron’s statue into the sanctuary.
FIRST FRIDAY - we will observe First Friday of the month
on January 6th. Mass at 7:00am will be offered for the living
members of the Sacred Heart Society and we ask members and
parishioners to take part in this traditional First Friday Service.
Scheduled adorers are invited to participate at their appointed
time. Adoration will conclude at 3:00pm with the Chaplet to
the Divine Mercy and Benediction. Mass at 7:00pm will be
celebrated in the Polish language.

The garnet is the birthstone and the snowdrop is the flower of
the month. Congratulations to all and may God bless all our
celebrants with continued good health and happiness.
Mark your calendar - Holy Rosary Annual Oplatek
Dinner will be held on Sun., Jan. 8th at Point Breeze
Restaurant. The family style ham & turkey dinner will be

UROCZYSTOŚĆ
ŚWIĘTEJ BOŻEJ RODZICIELKI MARYI

„Maryja zachowywała wszystkie te sprawy i rozważała je w swoim sercu.” (Łk 2: 19)
„Gdy nadeszła pełnia czasu, Bóg zesłał swojego Syna, zrodzonego z niewiasty” – słyszymy dziś w drugim
czytaniu. Te proste słowa opisują niepojętą tajemnicę Wcielenia, a Niewiastą, przez którą staliśmy się uczestnikami
tej tajemnicy, jest Maryja. To Ona użyczyła swego ciała Bogu, aby stał się człowiekiem. Dzięki Jej Synowi nasza
wina mogła zostać odkupiona, tak że otrzymaliśmy „przybrane synostwo”. Pamiętając o tym, powierzajmy się u
progu nowego roku wstawiennictwu świętej Bożej Rodzicielki.
Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na pokrycie wyższych kosztów utrzymania i energii.

Dziś przypada pierwsza niedziela miesiąca stycznia. Jest to
wspaniała okazja, aby rozpocząć Nowy Rok w perspektywie
Bożej Miłości Miłosiernej. Tradycyjne nabożeństwo Koronki do
Miłosierdzia Bożego wraz z adoracją Najświętszego Sakramentu
rozpocznie się o godz. 14:55. Serdecznie zachęcamy do wspólnej
modlitwy.

Z całego serca i ogromną radością pragniemy podziękować
parafianom za przesyłane i składane życzenia świąteczne oraz

SIOSTRY FELICJANKI
Siostry Felicjanki, które posługują w naszej parafii od wielu,
wielu lat pragną serdecznie podziękować za mnóstwo gestów
przyjaźni i szczodrobliwości okazanych w czasie Świąt. Pragną
zapewnić, o pamięci w modlitwach, które ofiarują w intencji
wszystkich dobroczyńców.
Siostry Felicjanki
OGRZEWANIE
W ostatnim czasie sygnalizowaliśmy o problemach z
ogrzewaniem w Bazylice. Szczęśliwie udało nam się przetrwać
przez okres świąteczny. Nie mniej jednak ogrzewanie nadal nie
działa poprawnie. Awarie powtarzają się w każdym tygodniu.
Spowodowane są głownie tym, że cały system jest bardzo
sfatygowany z powodu upływu lat i ciągłej pracy. Firma „Wheeler
Co.”, która zajmuje się konserwacją, sugeruje wymianę całego
systemu na nowy. Nie mniej jednak z powodu zimna i okresu
grzewczego takie prace nie są na razie możliwe. W zamian
możemy dokonać tymczasowej naprawy za kwotę $3030
(włączając robociznę). Pozwoli to na przetrwanie obecnej zimy i
da nam czas na zebranie pieniędzy na wymianę w przyszłości.
Do tej pory otrzymaliśmy następujące ofiary na ten cel: Anthony
i Sheila Kusek - $2500, Theodore i Helen Dawicki - $2000,
ks. prałat Antoni Czarnecki - $500. Dziękujemy ofiarodawcom za
hojność i wrażliwość na potrzeby naszej wspólnoty.

NOWOROCZNE PRZESŁANIE
Zakończenie
starego

rozpoczecie
nowego
roku
kalendarzowego jest zawsze momentem sentymentalnym
i nostalgicznym, kiedy rozmyślamy o rzeczach i sprawach, które
miały miejsce w przeszłości oraz kiedy z niecierpliwością
wypatrujemy tego, co przyniesie przyszłość. Powitanie nowego
roku powiązane jest z wieloma celebracjami, hałasem zabaw
i hukem fajerwerków. Tradycja ta sięga jeszcze starożytnych
czasów, kiedydy wierzono, że w ten sposób można odpędzić złe
duchy, mogące wślizgnąć sie w nasze życie i przyszłośc pod
osłoną ciemności.
Każdy nowy rok przynosi wiele wyzwań i wizji, również dla
naszej wspólnoty parafialnej. Żegnając stary rok prosimy Boga o
błogosławieństwo na wszelkie podejmowane działania, smutki i
radości, które nas czekają.
Na początku nowego roku powinniśmy skoncentrować się na
darowanym nam czasie. Wykorzystajmy go, by wzrastać w wierze
i odnawiać w sobie życie ducha i modlitwy. Podejmowane
noworoczne postanowienia mogą mieć ogromny wpływ na całe
nasze przyszłe życie, życie naszych rodzin i wspólnot. Postarajmy
się szukać spełnienia w życiu poprzez ofiarną służbę dla
ukochanych i dla wspólnoty Kościoła, szczególnie tego lokalnego
– parafii, diecezji…
Wspólnie z wszystkimi, którzy odwiedzili w stajence Dzieciątko
Jezus, odkrywajmy w sobie od nowa nadzieję płynąca z potęgi
Boga, która wspiera nas i prowadzi. Niech ona wypełnia cały
rozpoczynający się rok.
