Word of Life. The potential benefits of adult stem cell research
are very considerable, since it opens up possibilities for healing
chronic degenerative illnesses by repairing damaged tissue and
restoring its capacity for regeneration. The improvement that
such therapies promise would constitute a significant step forward in medical science, bringing fresh hope to sufferers and
their families alike. For this reason, the Church naturally offers
her encouragement to those who are engaged in conducting and
supporting research of this kind, always with the proviso that it
be carried out with due regard for the integral good of the human person and the common good of society.

Stewardship Note: “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:17) Jesus’ call to “Come after me” is a
call to all Christians. Jesus asks us all to help Him in His work.
By being good stewards, we, can help bring others closer to
God.
THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
January 22, 2012
The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the
Gospel. —Mark 1:15
A NEW DAY DAWNS
Today we hear how Jonah, sent by God to warn the people,
storms through the street of Nineveh, scaring the citizens out of
their wits. And it works! God has a change of heart, seeing
“by their actions” how the people turn from evil. A new day
dawns.
Next we hear Paul telling the Corinthians, “The world in its
present form is passing away”. He calls for a change of heart.
Stopping short of telling them to stop carrying out their everyday activities, he urges them—rather mysteriously—to live “as
though” they aren’t doing the things they are doing. A new
day has dawned.
Everyone has to change when a new day dawns: the
Ninevites, the Corinthians, the apostles, even Jesus! Didn’t a

CHILDRENS’ CHRISTMAS CONCERT
This Sunday, Jan. 22nd at 3:00pm we will host childrens’
choirs from several parishes with the singing of Christmas Carols. Our Basilica is pleased to present two choirs-the St. Joseph
School Choir and the Bazyliszki. Both choirs are well known
and have performed in several area parishes to great applause. I
believe there are many parishioners who have never experienced the joy of hearing our choirs, but especially the Christmas Carols. Please invite a friend and come to enjoy the lyrics,
melodies and message of Christmas.
CATHOLIC SCHOOL WEEK
Catholic School Week –begins Sunday, January 29th with a
family Mass with Bishop Robert McManus at 9:30am followed
by coffee and . . . in the school cafeteria. Open House from
11:30am—2:00pm with a scavenger hunt and scholarship raffle
for new students. Scholastic book fair is open all week in the
gym.
This year’s theme is “Faith, Academics, Service” which
focuses on three priorities which distinguishes them from other
educational institutions. Children are taught how to have a relationship with God which leads to Faith—Academics which in
the Catholic schools are held to very high standards and helps
each child reach his or her potential—Service means giving
time and effort to help others and it is an expression of faith as
well as good citizenship.
Various activities are planned throughout the week such as a
book fair, buddy bingo, crazy hat contest, making appreciation
cards, sending care packages for a Marine Unit serving in Afghanistan, discussions with lay and religious speakers, coffee

PARISHIONER BELONGING
Recently several individuals, who do not belong to St. Joseph
Parish, inquired about services of the Church for baptisms and
weddings. May I stress again, that Diocesan Policy which is
based on Canon Law states that only individuals who are part of
a given community of faith, participate in Divine Worship and
support the parish have the right to church services. We encourage parents to remind their children that anyone who has
completed their education and is employed is considered an
adult and should register in their own name at Saint Joseph Basilica.
This practice has its roots in the first Christian communities
where people who accepted Jesus Christ were baptized, displayed hospitality and compassion toward the destitute, acted in
the spirit of charity toward the sick and prisoners, created a
bond of love supporting one another in a time of sadness and
joy. For centuries this ideal model defined the parish communities throughout the world. People took pride in belonging to a
community of faith where they were nourished during Divine
Worship on Sunday by the word of God and the bread of life
and proclaimed the message of Jesus on a daily basis. The
same model of community of faithful defines every Catholic

parish today. The parish is a community of service, given and
received. The Sacrament of Baptism, Sacrament of Matrimony,
Anointing of the Sick, Mass of Resurrection for the departed of
this world, etc. are important benefits of belonging.
WITH GRATITUDE
St. Joseph School-we gratefully acknowledge the semiannual donation of $10,500 which represents the interest from
the Friends of St. Joseph School Fund. This is an enormous
help for the daily operation of the school. I am grateful to the
officers who manage this fund.
A donation from Cyrilla (Mrzyglod) Montville who recently
toured our school with some of her former classmates. Her gift
was in gratitude of many happy memories at SJS.
Congratulations!
Stella Bishop is celebrating her 100th birthday on Sunday
with family and friends. She enjoys good health, is intellectually sharp and resides temporarily at Webster Manor for her
personal comfort and care. Stella was born in Webster and
spent her entire life within the St. Joseph Parish community.
She faithfully attended Divine Worship on Sundays and is a
member of parish sodalities. On behalf of all the parish ministries we wish her good health, God’s blessings and many more
birthdays. Sto Lat!
MOTHER CABRINI PATRON ST. OF IMMIGRANTS
Maria Francesca Cabrini dreamed to be a missionary, but
early in her life realized she was destined for a more important
mission. She formed her own order of missionary sisters and
was then known as Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. She established orphanages throughout the world fighting deploring obstacles and abhorrent living conditions. But her spirit never
diminished and she was responsible for the founding of 67 institutes in America & Europe.
Mother Cabrini was a light of hope to all immigrants and an
inspiration to all whose life she touched. She died on Dec. 22,
1917, which is her Feast Day and she was the first American
citizen to be canonized as a Saint.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
TRZECIA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA
22 stycznia 2012
„Czas się wypełnił i bliskie jest królestwo Boże. nawracajcie się i wierzcie w Ewangelię.” (Mk 1, 15)

tematu przynależności do parafii. Według Prawa Kanonicznego jak również
Tradycji Kościoła, każdy chrześcijanin powinien przeżywać swoją relacją z
Bogiem we wspólnocie wiernych. Wielu z nasz jest przyzwyczajonych do
modelu polskiego, gdzie o przynależności do parafii denuduje miejsce
zamieszkania i nie wymaga dodatkowych czynnosci. W warunkach tutejszego
przynależność do Kościoła Chrystusowego.
