Stewardship Note: The three wise men who came from the East to pay homage to the infant Jesus brought Him rich gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh as part of their worship. What gifts have I brought to this celebration to offer to the newborn Savior? THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD January 4, 2015 All kings shall pay him homage, all nations shall serve him. - Psalm72:11 PARTNERS IN THE PROMISE As a society, during these days we can be in something of a “postpartum” depression. Our celebrations of Christmas and the New Year are over, and after today many of us will put a way the decorations and the last visible remnants of the celebrations of the past weeks. The apostle Paul today uses the expression “partners in the promise”. This is an uplifting phrase for us to reflect upon and to think of as our own calling in these days following the birth of the Lord. What is this promise? We can find it in the gifts the magi bring: it is a promise of being a royal priesthood (gold), a holy nation (frankincense), a people set apart for self-giving (myrrh). We find more of the promise in Isaiah—a light shines upon us! In the psalm we know a promise of a world of flowering justice, profound peace, the poor rescued, pity for the lowly and the poor. This is the promise; and one of the best ways for us to lift ourselves out of any possible low spirits we may be suffering is to live out our partnership in the promise each day. Second collection is for parish obligations to the Diocese. Next week’s second collection is designated for Higher Energy and Fuel Costs. HAPPY NEW YEAR Please welcome 2015 with faith, courage and enthusiasm. Let us be united in prayer, new initiatives and harmonious work to accomplish the mission handed down through Jesus Christ and exemplified in the life of our ancestors. May God through the intercession of the Blessed Mother and St. John Paul II continue to guide us. Happy New Year and Szczesliwego Nowego Roku! - Msgr. Tony - Fr. Gregory THE EPIPHANY OF THE LORD This Sunday, January 4th, we celebrate the solemnity of Epiphany. We once again recall the Three Wise Men who received a series of mysterious signs and began the journey to find the new born Messiah of the World. It is a clear indication that it is ultimately God who leads the Wise Men on their journey and it is God who reveals the child to them and again it is God who reveals the mystery of Christ to all nations. Christmas Day brought many people to participate in the Eucharist in the Church which is a sign of a contemporary, universal search for God in the person of Jesus Christ. Christ is the center of Christmas and the meaning of our life and we find him through acts of charity, kindness and love. “God is love and he who abides in love abides in God and God abides in him”. John 4:16. Page 3 Blessed chalk and incense is located near the crèche to allow you to follow the tradition of writing over the doorway of your home the following: 20+C+M+B+15. In the beginning of Christianity it was K instead of C for Christus Mensionem Benificat-meaning Christ blesses our home. Others thought it referred to the Three Magi. NATIONAL MIGRATION WEEK This year National Migration Week will be observed beginning on January 11th at the 9:30am liturgy at the request of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The 2015 theme is “We are one family under God”. Our country is continually changing with a sharp decline of the Anglo-Saxon population and a new reality is emerging where people from different cultures, races and creeds create one nation who live in harmony, seeking justice and in a spirit of solidarity. At our Basilica this event is observed with great pageantry and involvement of our St. Joseph School children. To signify the diversity our students will join in procession at Mass dressed in the garments/ colors and carrying flags of their native countries. A reception will follow mass in the school cafeteria where you can sample tasty food from other cultures. CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION I was pleasantly surprised that this Christmas at St. Joseph Basilica attracted a large number of people. Besides parishioners there were many visitors from distant locations. The beautiful decorations, musical presentations by the adult and children’s choirs made Christmas at St. Joseph’s an exceptional spiritual experience. We are profoundly grateful to many individuals who intensified the joy of Christmas in a variety of ways. We recognize the time and talent of our organist and choir director, Robert Wojcik. The concert of traditional and new Christmas Carols and musical arrangements by senior, Basilica and children’s choirs were inspiring. We are also grateful to all parents who brought their children to rehearsals. We appreciate the leadership and sacrifice of time and talent of Fred and Sylvia Kitka who provided a Christmas aura at our Basilica including: Fr. Gregory, Kathleen Kitka, Eugene Rudnicki, Jaroslaw Gronek, Tomasz Bialik, Jaroslaw Bozek, John Hester, Jim Canty, George Baldowski, John and Jane Gogolinski, Diane Gajewski, Dot Kasierski, Pat Parslow, Gen Lariviere, Tomasz Mamro, Joe Ziak, Norman Czyzewski, John Marsh, Joe and Sue Werbecki. The unusually great number of people who participated in Divine Worship on Christmas Day is a sign that Catholics are aware of the true meaning of Christmas. Likewise the $8,120 collection indicates that we gave an equivalent amount to Jesus as to our children. May your dedication and kindness be rewarded by Jesus Christ during the New Year! KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS - Chapter #12980 are pleased to welcome four new members into our fraternal organization: James Davey, Michael Fras, Jeff Sabacinski and Timothy West. They were escorted by former Grand Knight, Craig Holmberg and Joseph Werbecki. They are invited to attend the next chapter meeting on Wed., Jan 7th at 7:00pm in the school conference room. FELICIAN SISTERS THANK YOU-for your recent gift which is deeply appreciated. We must entrust our debt of gratitude to Jesus and His Mother Mary. Surely, they will find the most beautiful way to repay you. After entrusting our debt of gratitude to Jesus and Mary, our prayer is: A fervent THANK YOU, DEO GRATIAS and THANKS BE TO GOD. PEACE AND ALL GOOD! - Sr. Jeanne, Sr. Valenta & Sr. Mary Ann DONATIONS Friends of St. Joseph School Fund - in memory of Theresa Przystas given by James & Lorraine Brezniak, Shirley Piechota, Rose Smoolca, Gladys Przystas, Lorraine Cozzens, Booster Athletic Club and Flexcon Co., May the new year bring prosperity, peace and good health to those who are inspired to share their good fortune with others. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY On Sunday, January 4th at 3:00pm we ask you to join us for the singing of the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by Benediction. Let us begin this New Year by gathering at our Basilica to ask for God’s blessings on our family and on our plans on our journey of faith through 2015. MASSES FOR OUR DECEASED At the death of a relative or a friend everyone feels the need to do something good on behalf of that soul—make contributions to various charitable causes or to the church. If the soul of our departed loved one is in purgatory, in a place or state of preparation to enter heaven, the prayers and masses are very much needed and are of supreme importance. It was a custom, a person would stop by the rectory for a Mass Card to be presented to the family with the date and time of a mass to be celebrated for the repose of the soul of the deceased. This practice has been diluted over the years and people now go to the funeral home to view the body and make contributions to specific charities. The larger offerings could be given to a cause designated by the family but smaller donations (about $10) should be offered for a mass, if we obviously care for this person’s spiritual well being. DEVOTION AND NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH Please join us on Wednesday, Jan., 7th at 7:00pm for our weekly Devotion and Novena to St. Joseph. This is an opportune time to begin the New Year to ask our Patron, St. Joseph for needed graces for ourselves and our families by writing our intentions to be read during the Novena. The Eucharistic Ministers will carry the statue of our Patron from the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to the sanctuary. We appreciate your donations. SAVE THE DATE - we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week beginning with Liturgy at 9:30am on Sunday, January 25th. Msgr. James Moroney, Rector of St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA will be our main celebrant and homilist. This year’s theme is: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service”. Our St. Joseph School students, faculty, staff and Home School Association are planning many special events to commemorate this week. SUNDAY AFTERNOON CHRISTMAS CONCERT On Sunday, January 11th at 3:00pm our Basilica will host the traditional Christmas Carol Concert with several visiting choirs joining our choirs. It is a unique opportunity to relive again the Christmas spirit and enjoy the melodies and sentimental lyrics which will echo our childhood experience. Christmas carols reflect the ingenuity of numerous artists who were able to create inspiring songs and deep messages in simple compositions. The artistry of our Basilica complemented by the Christmas flowers and the Fontanini nativity scenery create a natural background for this concert. Each choir will present a couple of selections ending the program with the combined choirs. The concert is free, however donations will be appreciated for a reception for our guests at the PAV following the program. I encourage every parishioner to invite family and friends to join us for this memorable afternoon. FRIDAY NIGHT BINGO Join us for BINGO every Friday in the St. Joseph School Cafeteria. Page 5 KRONIKA PARAFIALNA DRUGA NIEDZIELA PO NARODZENIU PAŃSKIM OBJAWIENIE PAŃSKIE 4 stycznia 2015 „I oddadzą mu pokłon wszyscy królowie, Tysiące ludzi wędrowało do Jerozolimy. Jedni, aby pohandlować, bo był to ważny rynek świata. Drudzy, by posłuchać uczonych rabinów, którzy w portykach świątyni odpowiadali na trudne pytania. Można nawet było pozostać u nich podejmując systematyczne studia. Jeszcze inni wędrowali, by robić karierę, bo tam był dwór Heroda. Oni wędrują i znajdują. 15:00 w połączeniu z wystawieniem i adoracją Najświętszego Sakramentu. Rozpocznijmy Nowy Rok z błogosławieństwem Bożym. NOWENNA DO ŚW. 9:30. Tegorocznym obchodom przyświeca hasło: “We are one family under God”. STATYSTYKA PARAFIALNA Podsumowując ubiegły rok pragniemy przekazać parafianom niektóre dane, zapisane w księgach parafialnych: - Zapisanych nowych rodzin: 26 - Chrztów: 16 - Pogrzebów: 30 - Pierwszych Komunii: 18 - Bierzmowanych: 14 - Ślubów: 7 Dodatkowo księża wielokrotnie wyjeżdżali na wezwania do chorych udzielając Komunii Św. i Namaszczenia Chorych.
