Stewardship Note: “And a voice came from the heavens,

At the Baptism of Jesus, God made it clear that He was giving
us the greatest gift He could give. He was giving us His only
Son. When you really think about the magnitude of that gift of
Jesus sent to save us, plus all of the many other blessings that
God has entrusted into our hands, it is very humbling. God has
given us so much. What do we give in return?
THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD

A voice came from the heavens, saying:
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

CALLED TO SERVE
The status of God’s beloved Son is not one he
clings to. It is one he shares. All of us are called to
be sons and daughters of God. In Jesus, we can all
claim God’s favor. The second reading makes this
clear. Here we read of the baptism of Cornelius and
his household. Peter’s speech recalls the anointing of Jesus by
the Holy Spirit and the great power that swept through Israel
and onto the doorstep of the Gentile Cornelius.

But there is no end to the saving life given to us through baptism. There is no end to the life of children of God; there is no
end to God’s compassion, which we know in Christ Jesus.
There is no end to our status as chosen and beloved people of
God. Because of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, we are
forever among those on whom God’s favor rests.

NATIONAL MIGRATION DAY
We will observe National Migration Day at our Basilica on
Sunday, January 12th at the 9:30am Mass at the request of the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The theme of
this year’s celebration is “Out of the Darkness”. Children of
undocumented refugees are often existing in a figurative darkness where their options remain limited and their ability to live
out their lives in its fullness are severely restricted. It is our call
to bring the light of Christ to these populations, banish the darkness and help to bring them from the margins of society to its
center. Doing so will provide vulnerable migrants with a protected space in which they can flourish as human beings.
This special event is observed, usually around Epiphany with
pageantry and involvement of our school students. To signify
the diversity of children attending St. Joseph School our students will join in procession at Mass dressed in the colors/
garments and carrying the flags of their country.
A reception will follow in the school cafeteria sponsored by
the Home School Association.

“WOMAN OF THE YEAR”
We are proud to announce that Sylvia Kitka was recognized
as “Woman of the Year “ of St. Joseph Basilica. For many
years, Mrs. Kitka has been involved in various activities of our
parish—indoors and outdoors. We all enjoy her artistic abilities, with the help of the Altar Guild, in preparing the decorations in our church for special occasions, such as Christmas,
Easter and other major events. She is also known for her landscaping talents—with her meticulous process of planting flowers around the rectory and church including the entrance of the
cemetery, columbarium and children’s cemetery.
Sylvia participates in several ministries, including Parish
Council, Altar Guild, Eucharistic Ministry, serves as a docent to
visitors and has also represented our parish at diocesan and regional events.
She was instrumental with Joan Comeau in documenting our
two most recent publications “ Our Legacy” and the “125th
Anniversary Book” which were tedious and time consuming
projects.
Our parish community is profoundly indebted to her and her
husband, Fred who is always eager to provide needed assistance.
Congratulations to Sylvia! May she be blessed with many
of God’s graces in this New Year!
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
As we celebrate the Christmas season we see the central role
St. Joseph plays in the Nativity Scenery. As a foster father of
Jesus, he was the main provider, guide and defender of his family. The visits of the shepherds, Magi and the flight to Egypt
are proof of his essential leadership in the life of Jesus.
He is the patron of the Universal Church and provides assistance to a variety of human needs.
Every Wednesday, we come together as a community to receive his graces. On Wed., Jan. 15th at 7pm we ask you to join
us for our weekly Novena and Devotion to St. Joseph. Members of the Sacred Heart Sodality will carry the statue from
Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to the sanctuary. We appreciate your weekly offerings.
JANUARY BIRTHDAYS

MARK YOUR CALENDAR-Catholic School Week begins
Sun., Jan. 26 with Family Mass celebrated with Bishop
McManus at 9:30am followed by Coffee and . . .in the school
cafeteria. This year’s theme is: “Communities of Faith,
Knowledge and Service!
We will hold an open house, book fair and pasta supper. Our
faculty, students and staff are planning many exciting activities

I am pleased to inform you that the Pilgrimage to Poland is
almost full with only four seats available. Once all seats are

personally looking forward to this pilgrimage which consists of
social, religious and cultural highlights of Poland. An
orientation meeting with details will be scheduled at the
beginning of May.

Special Religious Education in South County - Sacred Heart
of Jesus in Webster is now hosting a SPRED learning center for
all those with learning and intellectual disabilities in the South
County area. SPRED (SPecial REligious Development), an
internationally accepted method of instruction, is a diocesansponsored program that provides religious development for
children, teens and adults who would benefit from gaining a
deeper sense of God, the Church, and Christ. Participants of
SPRED are prepared to receive the Sacraments. An open house
will be held at the learning center, 17 Main Street, on January

NATIONAL MIGRATION DAY
Dzisiejszej niedzieli, na Mszy św. o godz. 9:30 świętujemy
Narodowy Dzień Migracji (National Migration Day). Temat
tegorocznych obchodów stanowi wezwanie: "Out of the
Darkness ". Dzieci nielegalnych imigrantów często żyją,
mówiąc w przenośni, w swoistym cieniu, gdzie ich możliwości
rozwoju i normalnego funkcjonowania oraz możliwość
przeżywania życia w pełni, pozostają ograniczone. Jest zatem
naszym powołaniem i wezwaniem, aby nieść światło Chrystusa
do tych ludzi, pomagać im wydostawać się z ciemność i
marginesu życia społecznego poprzez tworzenie bezpiecznej
przestrzeni, w której mogą się rozwijać jako ludzie.
Obchodzimy to szczególne wydarzenie, zwykle w okolicach
obchodów Święta Trzech Króli, w połączeniu z
zaangażowaniem
naszych
uczniów.
Aby
podkreślić
różnorodność narodowości dzieci uczęszczających do szkoły
Św. Józefa nasi uczniowie dołączą do procesji podczas Mszy
św. ubrani w stroje narodowe i niosąc flagi swojego kraju.
Po Mszy św. Home School Assocition zaprasza do kafeterii
na niewielki poczęstunek.
KOBIETA ROKU
Mamy zaszczyt poinformować, że Sylvia Kitka została
uznana jako " Kobieta Roku" w Bazylice św. Józefa. Przez
wiele lat, pani Kitka była zaangażowana w różnorodne
działania w naszej parafii. Wszyscy możemy podziwiać jej
zdolności artystyczne, które prezentuje, z pomocą Altar Guild,
przygotowując dekoracje w kościele na specjalne okazje, takie
jak Boże Narodzenie, Wielkanoc i inne ważne wydarzenia w
ciągu roku. Wszystkie klomby i kompozycje kwiatowe na
zewnątrz świątyni, wokół plebanii, a także przy wejściu do
cmentarza, przy kolumbarium oraz na cmentarzu dziecięcym są
również dziełem jej pracy i talentu.
Pani Sylvia bierze udział również w kilku grupach
parafialnych, w tym w Radzie Parafialnej, Altar Guild, jest
Szafarzem Eucharystii, jak również reprezentowała naszą
parafię w czasie różnorodnych wydarzeń diecezjalnych i
regionalnych .
Była, wraz z Joan Comeau, odpowiedzialna za gromadzeniu
materiałów do naszych najnowszych publikacji: "Our Legacy" i
"125th Anniversary Book", które były bardzo wymagającymi i
czasochłonnymi projektami.
Nasza wspólnota parafialna wyrażą głęboką wdzięczność dla
Pani Sylvii oraz jej męża Fryderyka, który chętnie pomaga

NOWENNA I NABOŻEŃSTWO DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
Świętując Boże Narodzenie widzimy bardzo ważną rolę
Józefa jaką odgrywa On w Scenerii Świątecznej. Jako
przybrany ojciec Jezusa, był prawdziwym opiekunem i obrońcą
swojej rodziny. Wizyty pasterzy, Trzech Króli, ucieczka do
Egiptu, są dowodem na Jego ogromnego wpływu na życie
Jezusa.
Jest patronem Kościoła powszechnego i troszczy się o
wsparcie i pomoc w różnych potrzebach wiernych. W każdą
środę, spotykamy się jako wspólnota, aby prosić o potrzebne
łaski za Jego wstawiennictwem . W w najbliższą środę, 15
stycznia o godz. 19:00 zapraszamy na wspólną modlitwę w
cotygodniowej Nowennie św. Józefa. W procesji z figurą św.
Józefa, na rozpoczęcie i zakończenie liturgii będą uczestniczyli
członkowie Sacred Heart Society.

TYDZIEŃ SZKÓŁ KATOLICKICH
Już niebawem obchody Tygodnia Szkół Katolickich.
Rozpoczynamy w niedzielę 26 stycznia celebracją Mszy św.
rodzinnej pod przewodnictwem ks. biskupa Roberta McManus
o 9:30. Temat tegorocznych obchodów to: "Wspólnoty wiary,
wiedzy i służby!"
W czasie obchodów odbędą się m.in.: "dzień otwartych
drzwi", targi książki oraz wspólna kolacja. Nasi nauczyciele,
uczniowie oraz pracownicy planują wiele ciekawych wydarzeń,
aby zainteresować wszystkich odwiedzających. Więcej
szczegółów przekażemy przyszłym tygodniu.
