PREPARATION
Imagine the following scene: you sit down
in your school desk. The teacher walks the
aisle, placing the paper before you, face down.
You set your watch. You will have exactly
one hour to do the test. You turn the paper
over. Then it hits you: you never took any notes. You never
studied or did even one assignment. For a student, lack of
preparation is the nightmare of nightmares.
Jesus talks about the need for preparation in today’s Gospel.
God is pleased to give us the kingdom, Jesus says. “Gird your
loins and light your lamps.” See that you are prepared.
Jesus’ teaching reminds us of the question once posed to St.
Francis de Sales and his companions, who, according to the
story, were playing billiards. “What would you do if you knew
the end of the world was coming in one hour?” The friends of
Francis shared various plottings of how they would get their
affairs in order. Most mentioned prayer. Francis shrugged, “I
would continue doing what I am doing.” Are you ready to
meet the Lord?

PARISH COUNCIL VOTING RESULTS
I would like to congratulate the following newly elected
members of the Parish Council: John Hester, Ursula Kokosinski and Elizabeth Sabaj, who will begin to serve their three-year
terms beginning September 2013. I am pleased that these three
individuals are willing to help the Basilica and the school
through their talent and time. Installation date will be announced soon.
CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION
On Tuesday, August 13th, the outdoor procession in honor of
our Lady of Fatima will take place. Please join us as we pray
the rosary for the special intentions of the participants. This
special service will conclude with benediction of the Blessed
Sacrament.

DEVOTION AND NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH
This Wednesday, August 14th Devotion and Novena to St.
Joseph will be part of the 5:00pm Feast of Assumption Vigil
Mass. We ask members of the Holy Rosary Sodality to join us
to process with the statue of St. Joseph from the Our Lady of
Czestochowa Chapel to the sanctuary.
Please remember to write your intentions legibly on forms
provided in the Chapel.
All the Masses during the St. Joseph Devotion and Novena
are reserved for special intentions to our Patron.
FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED
VIRGIN MARY
The faith of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother is much
alive in the Church and dates back to Apostolic times. This
tradition was passed from one generation to the other by
strongly believing that the Blessed Mother after her earthly
pilgrimage was taken body and soul to Heaven. This feast is
always celebrated in the summer when everything is bountiful
and ready for harvest. She appears as a perfect fruit of the mystery of redemption—full of grace who brought to the world the
one who gives life eternal. This solemnity reminds us of the
gift of immortality and fullness of life through Jesus Christ.
The Assumption celebrates our faith in eternal life—our faith in
life, which is changing, not ending.
According to tradition we will bless flowers at each Mass.
The solemn blessing of the harvest wreath made from fresh
fruits will be blessed with the usual solemnity at 11:00am Mass
on Sunday, August 18.

FRIENDS OF ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL FUND
The Annual Appeal for the Friends of St. Joseph School fund
is held each August. The interest from this fund helps to defray
expenses which would otherwise be supplemented by tuition
increases, fund raising activities, or parish funds. You may
return your “yellow” envelope anytime during the month of
August. Thank you for your loyal support.

TOTE BAGS
Stop by the rectory to purchase a sturdy canvas tote bag with
the Basilica and Saint Joseph School logos. It’s a multipurpose, “must have” bag for school or work. The cost is $15
each or two for $25.
Blessed Mother Statue - is seeking a new home. A 4 1/2’
cement statue of our Blessed Mother is available to grace your
property. Needs some TLC (a new coat of paint) and is very
heavy (2 - 4) able bodies to move. If interested, please call

DONATIONS
As a result of our insert in last week’s bulletin My Offering
for the Church we are pleased to announce the following donations;- a non-parishioner who attended Mass last Sunday offered $411 for Altar Candles (2 months supply) and Altar
Server Bells who wishes anonymity; and a $102 gift for Communion Bread from Gladys Markiewicz, a resident at Christopher Heights and a long-time dedicated parishioner; The Steel
Container to store festival equipment - $3,100 from Michael
Kane and his sister, Judith Ann Fontaine, in memory of their
mother, Virginia, who passed to eternity two weeks ago; Perpetual Light for Blessed Sacrament (week of August 11th) by
Msgr. Czarnecki asking God’s blessing during the construction
of the gymnasium. Only through sharing do we multiply our
blessings.
May God reward, faith and generosity of these loyal individuals.
Diocesan Obligations - we gratefully acknowledge gifts of
$500 from the Holy Rosary Sodality and $500 from Sacred
Heart Society toward our outstanding balance. We are pleased
to receive an additional donation of $400 from Michael Kane.
We are profoundly grateful to our Parish organizations and
Mr. Kane for their concern to meet our financial commitments
especially as we approach the end of our fiscal year on August
31, 2013. God bless you all!
St. Joseph School - we received a donation of $400 for Tuition Assistance for a particular family whose serious illness of
the parents would not allow their child to receive a catholic
education. May God reward in a special way the goodness of
heart of this anonymous donor who has the right attitude and
Jesus’ compassion toward children.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
If you have not as yet registered your child into the Religious Education Program, please do so today. Forms are available at the entrances of our Basilica. Religious Education is a
vital part in the formation of spirituality and character of a
young person. May I ask parents to live up to their baptismal
promises to educate their children in their faith and register
them to Rel. Ed. Instructions. Fee of $30 includes a handbook
Parishioners--your help is needed! Sharing our faith is the
work of all baptized Catholics. No experience necessary. Is
God calling you to help? Perhaps as a catechist, aide in classroom, hospitality, office helper or leader of RCIA. Are you
able to give one hour per month, 4? - or only 1x or 2x a year?

THANK YOU! - to everyone who helped make the Youth
group Summer Theater Production possible. The kids worked
so hard and we are immensely proud of them all for their hard
work and dedication!
Youth Group Logo Contest - Entries should incorporate
our five member churches and should show that we are a
Catholic Youth Group. Submissions due by August 14th. The
chosen logo wins $25-runner-up wins $10. The contest is open
to all Youth Group members. Entries should be on one 8.5” x
11” paper. Any medium is acceptable. The Youth Group
Advisory Board will choose the winning logo.

ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
The St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club is participating in
Macy’s Annual “SHOP FOR A CAUSE” on Saturday, Aug.
24th. By purchasing a $5 coupon, you will be entered into a
drawing for a $500 Macy’s gift card, as well as receive 25% off
purchases on that day (some exclusions apply). The proceeds
from this fundraiser will benefit the Women’s Club, who in
turn, support the St. Joseph School community.
Members will be available after Masses this weekend to
sell the coupons. Your support is appreciated.
The St. Joseph Polish Women's Club has mailed a
schedule of upcoming events and meetings to its members.
Some of our events will include a Christmas Wreath
Fundraiser, Mystery Fall Foliage Bus Tour, Convent garden
clean up, Coat Drive, Pierogi Marathon and Spring Indoor/
Outdoor Yard Sale and Bake Sale. Meeting agendas will
include Cupcake decorating, specialty teas, crafting, self
defense, magic shows and a beer/wine tasting. The St. Joseph
Polish Women's Club has been supporting the St. Joseph
School Community since 1953 and we are always looking for
new members to help us achieve that goal. We encourage
anyone who wishes to join the club to contact President Cindi
Gardner or Vice President Jane Wilk.

Support of our Haitian Ministry - On Saturday, Aug.

"Dusza nasza wyczekuje Pana, On jest naszą pomocą i tarczą." (Ps 33,
PRZYGOTOWANIE
Wyobraź sobie następującą scenę: siedzisz w
ławce szkolnej. Nauczyciel podchodzi do ławki
i daje ci kartkę papieru. Ustawiasz zegarek.
Masz dokładnie jedną godzinę, aby rozwiązać
test. Odwracasz papier. Dociera do Ciebie, że nigdy nie robiłeś
żadnych notatek. Nigdy nie uczyłeś się i nie rozwiązywałeś
żadnych zadań. Taka sytuacja dla ucznia to koszmar najgorszy z
koszmarów.
W dzisiejszej Ewangelii Jezus mówi o konieczności
przygotowania. Bóg pragnie dać nam swoje królestwo, a Jezus
mówi: "Niech będą przepasane biodra wasze i zapalone wasze
pochodnie." Pokaż, że jesteś przygotowany. Nauczanie Jezusa
przypomina nam pytanie raz postawione świętemu Franciszkowi
Salezego i jego towarzyszy, którzy według opowieści, grali w
piłkę. "Co byś zrobił, gdybyś wiedział, że koniec świata
nadejdzie w ciągu godziny?" Przyjaciele Franciszka zaczęli
wymieniać różne sprawy, które zechcieliby uporządkować.
Większość z nich wymieniała modlitwę. Franciszek zaś
wzruszył ramionami i powiedział, "Kontynuowałbym to co teraz
robię." Czy jesteś gotowy na spotkanie z Panem?
Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na
pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.
Druga kolekta w najbliższa niedzielę będzie przeznaczona na
wsparcie Kościoła w Europie środkowej i wschodniej.

NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
W najbliższą środę, jak co tydzień, spotykamy się na
połączonej ze Mszą św. Nowennie do św. Józefa.
Zapraszamy wszystkich parafian i przyjaciół. Bardzo
prosimy o wpisywanie intencji drukowanymi literami.
Jednocześnie przypominamy, że kartek z intencjami nie
przechowujemy na następny tydzień (następną nowennę).
Jeśli ktoś chce, aby modlić się w danej intencji przez szereg
kilku nowenn musi zapasywać intencję każdego tygodnia.
ŚWIĘTO WNIEBOWZIĘCIA NAJŚWIĘTSZEJ NMP
Wiara we Wniebowzięcie Matki Bożej jest bardzo żywa
w Kościele i sięga czasów apostolskich. Tradycja ta była
przekazywana z pokolenia na pokolenie przez głęboko
wierzących w to, że Matka Boża, po jej ziemskiej
pielgrzymce, została wzięta z ciałem i duszą do nieba.
Święto to obchodzone jest zawsze w lecie, kiedy wszystko
jest dojrzałe i gotowe do zbioru. Maryja objawia się jako
doskonały owoc tajemnicy odkupienia, łaski pełna, która
przynosi na świat tego, który daje życie wieczne. Ta
uroczystość przypomina nam o darze nieśmiertelności i pełni
życia przez Jezusa Chrystusa. Wniebowzięcie NMP jest
świętem wiary w życie wieczne, naszej wiary w życie, które
się zmienia, ale się nie kończy.
Zgodnie z tradycją będziemy błogosławić wianki na
każdej Mszy Świętej. Uroczyste poświęcenie wieńca
dożynkowego odbędzie się w niedzielę 18 sierpnia na Mszy
św. o godzinie 11:00.

FUNDUSZ PRZYJACIÓŁ SZKOŁY ŚW. JÓZEFA
Coroczna zbiórka dla Funduszu Przyjaciół Szkoły św.
Józefa odbywa się zawsze w sierpniu. Odsetki z tego

PROGRAM RCIA
Wszyscy ci, którzy chcieliby zostać ochrzczeni i
przyłączyć się do Kościoła Katolickiego, powinni zapisać

Przypominamy o zapisywaniu dzieci na katechizację na
przyszły rok szkolny tak szybko jak to możliwe. Opłata
wynosi $30 za jedno dziecko oraz $50 za dwoje lub więcej
dzieci (opłata zawiera podręcznik). Formularze zapisowe są
dostępne przy wejściach do Bazyliki. Te same formularze i
warunki obowiązują przy zapisie do Bierzmowania.
Potrzebna jest pomoc parafian! Dzielenie się wiarą jest
zadaniem
wszystkich
ochrzczonych
katolików.
Doświadczenie nie jest niezbędne. Zastanów sie czy Bóg
powołuje, aby pomóc? Być może możesz pomóc jako
katecheta, pomoc w klasie, lub lider RCIA. Czy jesteś w
stanie poświęcić jedną godzinę w miesiącu, a może cztery? Może tylko raz lub dwa razy w roku? Prosimy rozważyć te
opcje, aby pomóc w katechizacji w naszej parafii.
