FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
April 21, 2013
“I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an
instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.”
-Acts 13:47b
THE GOOD SHEPHERD
The Good Shepherd not only knows us but
has given his life for us. We belong to the
Shepherd. His life is the source of our life. One
part of this relationship is firm—God’s part.
The Father has entrusted us to the Son, and the
Son will not let go of our hand. The other part
of this relationship depends on us, of course. In
today’s Gospel, Jesus assumes our open-hearted good will.
“My sheep hear my voice . . . And they follow me.” This
hearing and following is a daily undertaking that implies responsibility. Take Paul and Barnabas, for example. They
moved ever closer to the reality that salvation was also meant
for those members of the flock who did not yet know God’s
saving power. The Gentiles were the sheep known by the
Shepherd. Paul could finally see that now was the acceptable
time for them to know the Shepherd. Now the circle could be
completed. Finally, those who were known and loved by the
God of Jesus could know and follow the God of Jesus. There
will never be a last chapter to this story of salvation.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Today, the Fourth Sunday of Easter or Good Shepherd Sunday is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. On this special
day we are reminded, as baptized Catholics and all Christians,
that our central vocation is both a call to holiness and to service.
“Holiness . . . Is the vocation of our times, of all of us,” said
Pope Paul VI in Vatican Council II. Pope John Paul II constantly called upon young people and all of us to give service as
followers of Jesus Christ.
We ask that we may be filled with joy and the Holy spirit as
we carry on the mission of Jesus, our Good Shepherd. Let us
pray for one another that we may be strengthened in our Christian vocations as married and single people, priests, deacons
and religious. May our youth listen to God’s call and be encouraged to respond generously.
A good vocation is simply a firm and constant will in which
the called person has to serve God in the way and in the places
to which Almighty God has called him. Two powerful words
that Jesus often used are “come” and “go.” Living one’s vocation is knowing how to do both. We are God’s people.

PARTNERS IN CHARITY
We thank all of you who have responded to the Partners in
Charity Diocesan Appeal. Your contribution makes a major
difference to those who look to us for hope and help. We
are still approximately $9,000 short of our goal. If you have
not as yet joined in providing for the charitable works of the
Church, you may do so by pledging a donation by using the
envelope in the pew and placing it in the collection basket.
Each parish in the diocese participates in this charitable
work of the Church.
DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
There is a growing interest by Catholics of this region for
devotional services in honor of St. Joseph. Groups or single
individuals frequently ask for prayer cards and literature to
St. Joseph. The existing 6:30am mass on Wednesdays with
a brief prayer to St. Joseph is already inadequate and it is too
early in the morning for people to attend.
Therefore, we will initiate a devotion to St. Joseph on
every Wednesday at 7:00pm. As Wednesday, May 1st is
the Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker, patron of all working people, we will begin devotions to St. Joseph followed
by Mass. A box for petitions for your convenience will be
located at the main entrance to the church. The petitions will
be read during the Novena.
The statue of St. Joseph will be permanently located at Our
Lady of Czestochowa Chapel. However, for the Wednesday
devotions the statue will be carried during procession to the
sanctuary by members of different organizations.
We invite all parishioners and especially our parish organizations to join us. We will continue the brief Novena
Prayer on every Wednesday morning at 6:30am.

at the entrances to our Basilica or contact your favorite volunteer. This is a wonderful way to remember family and

ANNUAL SCHOOL AUCTION
COMING UP NEXT WEEK-Our Western Theme Annual School Auction will be held on Sat., April 27th at 200
Sportsmen’s Club beginning at 5:00pm. Tickets are available at the school at $15 per person which includes hors
d’oeuvres, beer/wine tasting and a buffet style dinner of
chicken, beans, coleslaw and corn bread. To purchase tickets call Jennifer at (508)943-0378 or Heidi at (774) 2304300. We are still accepting donations of items, services or
monetary gifts for our LIVE bidding which starts at 8:15pm
and also for our many raffles and theme baskets. All parishioners are invited to join us for this special evening with all
proceeds benefiting St. Joseph School.
FESTIVAL MEETING
ATTENTION: The next Festival Meeting will be held on
Monday, April 29th at 6:30pm in the School Conference
Room. We ask our chairpersons and all who have volunteered throughout our successful festivals to join us to discuss their ideas and suggestions to make the 40th festival the
best ever. There is much to be done and time is passing
quickly. We need everyone’s help.
40TH ANNUAL POLISH FESTIVAL
MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR JUNE 14, 15 & 16THOur annual festival will open on Friday, June 14th with music and dancing to the Eddie Forman Orchestra from 510pm. PGR Band will play “Polish” rock from 10—
11:30pm. Friday night only we will also serve Fish & Chip
Dinners, and clam chowder.
On Saturday, June 15th the festival will open at 1pm with
a talent show presented by the St. Joseph School children,
participation of the South County Cheerleaders and the Piast
Group. At 7pm Sudden Urge will play for your dancing and
listening pleasure until 11pm.
Sunday, June 16 we will feature Dennis Polisky and the
Maestro’s Men from noon until 4pm. An old-fashioned
chicken barbeque will be served at noontime. A limited
number of advance tickets will be available at $10/pp.
All weekend you can enjoy Polish-American Food. Also,
there will be gift raffles, country store raffle, wheelbarrow of
cheer raffle, 50/50 raffle, garage sale, kiddie land, amusement rides and many, many other games of chance. The
festival benefits the school and we will offer more details
soon.
We ask parishioners for their assistance in donating items,
purchasing their Money Raffle tickets. We need many helping hands for setting up. You may call Jen Herbst, Gen.

questions.

COUNTRY STORE-is once again requesting donations
of non-perishable grocery items such as canned goods,
boxed foods, laundry & dish soaps, etc. Laundry baskets
will be placed at church entrances for collection. School

CLEANUP OF CEMETERY
We vigorously try to address various damages caused by
New England winters. There are still a lot of winter decorations which must be removed by April 24.
I deeply appreciate your cooperation and invite volunteers
to join our clean up crew.

St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club - A meeting of the 60th
anniversary committee will be held on Wed., April 24th at
7:00pm in the school cafeteria. All members including the
Executive Board and Past Presidents are urged to attend in
order to finalize plans. The banquet brunch will be held on
Sunday, June 9th after the 9:30am Mass at the Publick House
(Sturbridge, MA) in the Garden Tent. The brunch is open to all
members, guests and the public. The cost of ticket is $30/pp.

Słuchaczy Jezusa fascynował Jego sposób
mówienia, nie taki jak uczonych w Piśmie – z
wielką mocą, tak że słowo trafiało bezpośrednio
do serca. Apostołowie, stając się głosem Jezusa,
zaczynają przepowiadać tak jak On – pociągają
nie piękną mową, ale mocą i przekonaniem, z
jakimi przemawiają. Jezus, będąc jedno z Ojcem, pragnie
prawdziwej komunii z Nim dla każdego z nas. Zapytajmy
siebie o jakość naszego świadectwa, czy nasz sposób głoszenia
Jezusa objawia prawdę o naszej komunii z Nim?

odbędzie się doroczna aukcja szkolna! Chętnych zapraszamy

ŚWIATOWE DNI MODLITW O POWOŁANIA
W dzisiejszą, czwarta niedzielę wielkanocną, niedzielę
Dobrego Pasterz, przeżywamy dzień modlitw o powołania. W
tym szczególnym dniu przypominamy sobie, jako chrześcijanie
i katolicy, że wszyscy jesteśmy powołani do świętości i do
służby. „Świętość… to powołanie w naszych czasach dla
każdego z nas” powiedział papież Paweł IV w czasie soboru
Watykańskiego Drugiego. Natomiast papież Jan Paweł II
nieustannie zwracał się do młodych i do wszystkich chrześcijan
by służyć, jako uczniowie Chrystusa.
Módlmy się za siebie nawzajem byśmy wzmocnieni Duchem
Świętym z radością kontynuowali dzieło zapoczątkowane na
ziemi przez Chrystusa. Prośmy go o pomoc w realizacji
naszego życiowego powołania czy to w małżeństwie, czy w
samotności, jako osoby świeckie czy też duchowne. Niech
młode pokolenie dostrzega Boga i słyszy Jego wezwanie, na
które z radością i odwaga odpowie.
Realizacja powołania to po prostu stała wola do służby Bogu
w sposób i w miejscu przez Boga wybranym. Jezus często
używał słów: „pójdź” i „posyłam was”. Życie powołaniem
oznacza wiedzieć jak realizować wezwanie do podążania za
Jezusem i do służenia w Jego imieniu.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
Partners in Charity nadal trwa. Dziękujemy wszystkim
ofiarodawcom za dotychczas złożone ofiary, które będą służyły
wielu potrzebującym ludziom. Jeśli jeszcze nie złożyliście
swoich ofiar ten zbożny cel, możecie to jeszcze uczynić
używając specjalnych kopert znajdujących się w ławkach.
Prosimy również o modlitwę w intencji potrzebujących to
patronki tegorocznej akcji św. Kateri Tekakwitha.
FESTIWAL
Tegoroczny festiwal rozpoczyna się w piątek 14 czerwca.
Tego dnia będziemy bawili się w rytm muzyki granej przez
Eddie Forman Orchestra, w godzinach od 17:00 do 22:00.
Następnie zagra polski zespół PGR zabawiając nas do godz.
11:30.
W sobotę, 15 czerwca, zabawę rozpoczynamy o godz. 13:00
pokazem talentów dzieci z naszej szkoły, South County
Cheerleaders oraz Grupy Piast. Od godz. 17:00 zagra zespół
Sudden Urge.
W niedzielę 16 czerwca, rozpoczynamy o godz. 12:00 i
bawimy się do 16:00. Gać będą zespóły: Denis Polsky oraz
Maestro’s Men. Od południa będą serwowane dania z grilla.
Bilety będą dostępne w cenie 10$ za osobę.
W ciągu całego festiwalu będziemy serwować dania z
polskiej i amerykańskiej kuchni. Na uczestników czekają
również różnorodne loterie, wyprzedaż garażowa, wesołe
miasteczko i wiele innych atrakcji.
Prosimy parafian o wsparcie w organizacji festiwalu poprzez
ofiarowanie swojej pomocy, fantów lub nagród pieniężnych na
loterie etc. Czekamy również na wasze sugestie i pomysły, alby
nasz festiwal uczynić jeszcze bardziej udanym i atrakcyjnym.

TELEGRAM DO ŚWIĘTEGO JÓZEFA
W Kościele katolickim jest bardzo żywy kult św. Józefa,
oblubieńca NMP, opiekuna i wychowawcy Jezusa Chrystusa.
Obecnie jest opiekunem Kościoła. Historia św. Józefa jest nam
znana z kart Ewangelii. Otoczony jest szczególnym pietyzmem
w kościołach, których jest patronem. We wszystkie środy
czciciele św. Józefa proszą o Jego wstawiennictwo szczególną
modlitwą.
W marcu wierni gromadzą się na nowennie.
Istnieje wiele publikacji dotyczących historii i kultu tegoż
świętego. Wydawane są różne książki, modlitewniki. Nie
brakuje obrazków z wizerunkiem Świętego z różnymi
modlitwami, aktami strzelistymi – krótkimi modlitewnymi
westchnieniami.
Wielu z nas znany jest obrazek z wizerunkiem Cieśli z
Nazaretu trzymającym na ręku dzieciątko Jezus, a w dłoni białą
lilię.
Obraz Świętej Rodziny (kiedyś wisiał na ścianie w każdym
domu – dzisiaj bywa różnie) jest symbolem świętości rodziny.
Można by wyliczać liczne dzieła artystyczne: kościoły, kaplice,
rzeźby, malowidła, gobeliny, prozę i poezję przybliżające tego
pokornego, skromnego, cichego, wiernego świętego – „Cień
Ojca”.
Nie to jednak pragnę opisać – mam potrzebę duszy podzielić
się moim przeżyciem. Cierpienie, ból, rozbicie – „miałam
doła”. Zbyt wiele różnych spraw, kłopotów, zmartwień,
problemów nałożyło się na siebie w jednym czasie. Wielu z nas
miewa podobne sytuacje życiowe. Znamy te problemy
wszyscy. Kto ich nie miał? Dom, rodzina, zdrowie, praca,
znajomi itp. Kłopoty mają wszyscy. Ale moje dla mnie i mojej
rodziny były ogromne. Z ogromną nadzieją, że zostanę
wysłuchana modliłam się w prosząc św. Józefa o
wstawiennictwo – aby „zaniósł” przed tron Boga miłości moje
błagania w nagłej potrzebie, aby jeśli to jest zgodne z wolą
Bożą zostały choć w części wysłuchane.
I tak, jak jest w mocy ludzkiej i jak można było, płacząc
modliłam się przez kilka dni ponawiając – błagając o ratunek,
pomoc, ukojenie, a przede wszystkim o przemianę i łaskę
potrzebną szczególnie dla tej intencji. Trwałam ufnie w
błagalnej modlitwie.
Jakaż była moja radość, a przede wszystkim wdzięczność
Panu Bogu i św. Józefowi za część, jak na razie, wysłuchanej
modlitwy.
Została umocniona moja nadzieja, że św. Józef nigdy nie
opuści tego, kto za Jego pośrednictwem modli się, a On może
nam wyjednać łaskę ratunku i pocieszenia w strapieniu.
Święty Józefie – Przyjacielu serca Pana Jezusa, do Ciebie
ludzie przez wiele setek lat modlili się w potrzebie – ja to
czyniłam i pragnę czynić dalej.
