If only holiness could be determined solely by our attendance at Sunday liturgy and fulfilling a list of rules. But as any Christian knows, the way to holiness passes by way of the cross. Holiness is never a state of being that we reach or achieve, but a constant personal and communal battle that embraces penance, mortification, and suffering, which only then lead to peace. Mary knew that. Simeon--the prophet who held the infant Jesus and put into words what Mary must have felt, that the child is "destined for the fall and rise of many . . . a sign that will be contradicted"-also knew (Luke 2:34). Many in our own families have tripped over the stumbling block of faith that is Jesus. Yet they remain with our families and may even have shared our holidays together. We pray for these wayward ones and always remember that they, too, help make our families holy. Richard Kunzman on our recent visit to your parish. On behalf of the poorest of the poor, we thank you for having shared in their lives. May our Lord continue to bless all of you for you love and support. The Liturgy of the Word for Children will be celebrated on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at the 10:00AM Mass due to the holiday season. We invite all children Pre-school to age 8 to join us as we celebrate the word of God at a level understandable to them. 4 December 28th– Feast of the Holy Family Today we honor Joseph, Mary and Jesus - the Holy Family of Nazareth – a model of acceptance, loyalty and love. It is our hope and prayer that your family will imitate the Holy Family and will share in the life and love promised us by Jesus. Thursday, January 1st, is a Holy Day of Obligation as we celebrate the Feast of Mary, the Mother of God. Masses will be celebrated on Wednesday (Vigil) at 5:00 P.M. (English), and on Thursday at 8:00 (English), 10:00 (English) and 11:30 A.M. (Polish). THERE IS NO EVENING MASS ON NEW YEAR'S DAY. Please notice that the schedule of Masses for this Holy Day is different than that of the Holy Days throughout the year. Start the New Year off right. Come to Mass and renew your commitment to God. We THANK all who prepared our Church for Christmas and helped to make our liturgical celebration of Christmas so beautiful and meaningful. THANK YOU for your most generous offerings for the Christmas flowers. Our Church once again looks magnificent due to the talents of Krystyna Szumanski and those who helped her with the decorations. THANK YOU to our Choirs, Ushers, Lectors, Ministers of Holy Communion, Altar Servers - and all of you who contributed in any way to make our Church’s celebration of the Lord’s Birth so beautiful and reverent. When we put our minds and hearts – and our time, talent and treasure - in the service of God and neighbor, we show Him gratitude and love for all His goodness to us. The best gift you have given Him for His Birthday is the gift of yourself. As I do every year, I give you a brief synopsis of what occurred in our parish over the past year. Throughout the year, we baptized 41 children; 38 children received First Holy Communion; 6 couples were married and we said farewell to 72 of our parishioners and friends who died. We as a Catholic people must stand firm in our faith and praise God weekly in the celebration of the Eucharist and thank Him for the many blessings that we do have. It is not only an obligation – but a privilege! Spiritually we had beautiful May Procession, Living Rosary, 40 Hours Devotion and Memorial Mass for our beloved deceased. All were well attended and magnificent. We were able to maintain our beautiful property because of your generosity. Even though our school closed three years ago, our children in Catholic School now attend Blessed Trinity Regional Catholic School at the former St. Timothy School. We have 29 “shining stars” there and we can be very proud of them. During the New Year of 2015 may we continue to work together for the honor and glory of God. Father Konstanty and I, wish you and your families a most Happy New Year. May God give you His Peace and Love all the days of your life. If every parishioner could please take a couple of lottery tickets to sell to a friend, relative, neighbor or co-worker, our lottery would be more successful. These lottery tickets make great gifts! Thank you to all the volunteers, sellers, and buyers who make our lottery such a success. A Big Thank you from Sister Annuntia The flood of prayers, well wishes, and get-well cards from the lovely people of St. John’s has left me simultaneously humbled, yet up-lifted. Such goodness! Such support! I can only beg the Lord to bless you all a hundred-fold! With Prayers and Gratitude, Sister Annuntia DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH? Saint John Cantius Parish offers year round opportunities for people seeking more information about the Catholic Faith, the Sacraments and living the Christian Life. These opportunities are for adults who would like to inquire about following Jesus and becoming a member of the Catholic Church, or, if you are already a baptized Christian, would like to become Catholic, or, if you are already a baptized Catholic, would like to receive Confirmation and Holy Communion. There are many people like yourself inquiring and we are ready to answer your questions. Please contact the rectory office for more information. If you know of a shut-in in need and is interested in the Aid for Friends meals program, please contact the Rectory at 215-535-6667 ( and they will direct your call) or Dori Michalak 215-533-4787. An arrangement will be made for someone to visit the prospective client one time only to take down necessary information and to see if the person qualifies for the program. The program consists of one home-cooked meal a day, 7 days/wk and (when available one or two breakfasts a week). Once again, thank you to all those generous people who make meals for us here at St. John’s and also those charitable persons who give of themselves weekly or bi-weekly to deliver the meals.
