The Fifth Sunday of Lent
Go, and do not sin again." (Jn 8:11.)
How can we today hear these words just as the woman caught in adultery did, so that we may walk away
from the Lord cleansed, renewed, made whole again after the tragedy and brokenness of sin? Through the
sacraments of healing. The forgiveness of the Lord is infinite and without conditions. The healing power of
the mercy of God, fully given in Christ, can be ours definitively and completely whenever we approach the
Lord in the sacrament of Confession and, when sick in body, also through the sacrament of the Anointing of
the Sick. The Lord Jesus Christ, physician of our souls and bodies, who forgave the sins of the paralytic and
restored him to bodily health, (Cf. Mk 2:1-12) has willed that his Church continue, in the power of the Holy
Spirit, his work of healing and salvation, even among her own members. This is the purpose of the two sacraments of healing: the sacrament of Penance and the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. (CCC 1421)
"Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed
against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins
and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion." (LG 11 art. 2) (CCC 1422) It is
called the sacrament of forgiveness, since by the priest's sacramental absolution God grants the penitent
"pardon and peace." (OP 46: formula of absolution.) It is called the sacrament of Reconciliation, because it
imparts to the sinner the life of God who reconciles: "Be reconciled to God." (2 Cor 5:20) He who lives by
God's mercfiul love is ready to respond to the Lord's call: "Go; first be reconciled to your brother." (Mt 5:24)
If Baptism is clearly recorded in the Gospels as the gift of God's mercy and the washing away of all our sins.
why another sacrament in order to have the forgiveness of God?
Conversion to Christ, the new birth of Baptism, the gift of the Holy Spirit and the Body and Blood of Christ
received as food have made us "holy and without blemish," just as the Church herself, the Bride of Christ, is
"holy and without blemish." (Eph 1:4; 5:27) Nevertheless the new life received in Christian initiation has not
abolished the frailty and weakness of human nature, nor the inclination to sin that tradition calls concupiscence, which remains in the baptized such that with the help of the grace of Christ they may prove themselves in the struggle of Christian life. (Cf. Council of Trent (1546): DS 1515.) This is the struggle of conversion directed toward holiness and eternal life to which the Lord never ceases to call us.

Nie potępiam
„Rzekł do niej Jezus: I Ja ciebie nie potępiam. Idź, a od tej chwili już nie grzesz".
Greckie słowo katakrino oznacza wypowiedzenie wyroku skazującego, potępię- 0?C nie. Termin ten był
charakterystyczny dla przewodów sądowych (krino znaczy sądzę, osądzam, kata - w dół) i zawierał w sobie
przekonanie o nieodwracalności wyroku. Dobrze ilustruje to scena sądu nad Jezusem u najwyższego kapłana.
Padają tam słowa: „Oni zaś wszyscy wydali wyrok, że winien jest śmierci" (Mk 14, 64), gdzie użyty jest właśnie czasownik katakrino.
Sąd nad jawnogrzesznicą, opisany przez św. Jana, rozgrywa się w bezpośredniej bliskości wydania na Jezusa wyroku śmierci. Zostaje On poddany próbie jednoznacznej oceny złego postępowania niewiasty, ale Jego
reakcja demaskuje podstępne zamiary faryzeuszów. Odpowiedź Jezusa nie uchyla się od wyraźnej oceny
grzesznego życia kobiety, ale też nie przekreśla definitywnie człowieka. Nie jest to odpowiedź, która skazuje,
zabija, niszczy. Jezus kieruje się pełnym zaufaniem do człowieka, choćby był to człowiek grzeszny.
Uczeni w Piśmie i faryzeusze domagali się od Jezusa potępienia, czyli skazania kobiety na śmierć przez
ukamienowanie. Taka kara była przewidziana przez Prawo za cudzołóstwo i bluźnierstwo. Ważnym elementem przewodu sądowego była obecność świadków przestępstwa: byli oni zwykle bardzo zaangażowani emocjonalnie w toczący się proces, a rzucając pierwsze kamienie, rozpoczynali wykonywanie wyroku.
Ewangelie często ukazują Jezusa pośród grzeszników. Choć zawsze piętnuje On zło,
przygarnia grzeszników jak ojciec z „Przypowieści o synu marnotrawnym". Nie potępia człowieka i nie odmawia mu prawa do nowego życia. Pragnie jedynie, by ten zauważył swój grzech i się od niego odwrócił. Dlatego mówił: „Nie przyszedłem po to,
aby świat sądzić (krino), ale aby świat zbawić" (J 12, 47).
Zbliża się czas Spowiedzi Świętej
Jeśli bowiem przebaczycie ludziom ich przewinienia, i wam przebaczy Ojciec wasz
niebieski. (Ew. Mateusza 6:14). Bądźcie dla siebie nawzajem dobrzy i miłosierni!
Przebaczajcie sobie, tak jak i Bóg nam przebaczył w Chrystusie. (List do Efezjan
4:32)
Spowiedź wielkanocna w naszej parafii odbędzie się w sobotę, 19 marca w
godzinach od 3:00 do 5:30 po południu.

Something New
“See, I am doing something new!” (Isaiah 43:19).
All during the Lenten season, the scriptures have
revealed the truth of these words, proclaimed in today’s first reading from the prophet Isaiah.
We have heard about a bush in the desert aflame but
not consumed. We have listened to a parable about
a father, the depth of whose love for his prodigal son
was almost inconceivable.
Today, instead of condemning a woman caught in the
act of adultery and joining in stoning her to death, the
Lord Jesus sends her on her way, away from what
would have been certain death, admonishing her to
sin no more. Indeed, God has been doing something
new in our midst. Even when we are trapped in sin,
with no perceivable way out, we are offered forgiveness when we turn to the Lord with repentant hearts.
