Dear Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Christmas is remembered and celebrated in many ways. As a child, it’s
the surprise and the gifts that mark
the day. As a young person, it’s the
planning that goes into each gift as,
for the first time, you can spend your
own money to buy gifts for others. As
a parent, it’s the delight and happiness of children that leave the strongest impression. As an older adult, it’s
often the unity of the family that brings
the most satisfaction. All of these are good, but each is only a part
of something bigger. The more basic question is: what does
Christmas mean to God?
St. Paul’s letter to the Hebrews tells us that “in times past, God
spoke in partial and various ways to our ancestors through the
prophets; in these last days, he has spoken to us through the Son,
whom he made heir of all things, who is the refulgence of his glory,
the very imprint of his being.” At the beginning of the Gospel according to St. John, we hear that God’s eternal word took flesh
and became light for the world, so that all could come to comprehend who God is and what is our destiny in God’s plan.
Christmas therefore, means we are to fit the bits and pieces of
our lives and our experiences—the surprises, the generosity, the
happiness, the unity—and the sin as well—to take all these and fit
them into God’s plan for us, revealed in Jesus of Nazareth, Son of
God and son of Many.
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we live by his light in the midst of
the darkness of our own sins and the sins of the world. The world
doesn’t like to be exposed, as either partial or sinful, and resists
the light now as when Jesus was born. But nothing the world can
offer is eternal, nothing lasts forever, except the Word of God
made flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary. Today, Christmas celebrations will be more modest in many homes and memories will be
different from other years. But what is done in and with and
through Christ, the eternal Word of God, will be done well and last
forever.
I hope that some time in the future, we will recall that this was the
Christmas we came to understand how God is always with us, in
good times and in bad, in darkness and in light so long as we remain one in him. This will then have been a truly blessed Christmas.
You and your intentions will be remembered in my Christmas
Masses and prayers; please keep me and needs of the Archdiocese of Chicago in yours.

St. Paul’s reminder to be thankful is a
great way to end the year. The good
steward is always thankful. We recognize that we
are God’s people and everything we have is a gift
from God. When we fill our hearts with gratitude we
can stop striving for more and start appreciating
and sharing the gifts we have already been given.

2009 Church Collection Envelopes
As you learned in last week’s bulletin, the 2009 collection envelopes will be sent to you on a bi-monthly basis and by now you
should have received your envelopes for the months of January
and February 2009. If you have not received them, please notify
the parish secretary at 708-652-0948, ext. 20.
We have received several packets of envelopes that were not
deliverable. We will make an attempt to phone the persons and if
we are not able to contact them we will hold their envelopes for the
two months. If we do not hear from them within the two month period, we will delete them from our list of registered parishioners.
If you would like to become a registered parishioner of St. Mary of
Czestochowa Parish, please complete the form on the last page of
the bulletin or you may register at the parish office.
List of “SICK PARISHIONERS”
Beginning with the January 4, 2009 church bulletin, we will
delete all names that are presently listed on our “Sick List.”
Those listed on the present list have been there for a long time.
Names will be listed on our parish “Sick List” for one month
only in order to accommodate the names of other parishioners.
Please call the bulletin room phone number at 708-652-0948,
ext. 31 and leave a message to have a parishioner’s name
listed on the “Sick List. We will list: Parishioners who are terminally ill, those in hospitals, those in Nursing facilities or in their
home that are in ill health. The deadline for calling in a name
to be listed in a bulletin will be on the Monday of each week,
since the bulletins are e-mailed for print on Tuesdays of each
week.
Please help us to keep our Sick List up-to-date. Thank you for

THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH
Gospel: LUKE 2:22-40
When the days were completed
for their purification according to the
law of Moses, they took him up to
Jerusalem to present him to the
Lord, just as it is written in the law
of the Lord, Every male that opens
the womb shall be consecrated to
the Lord, and to offer the sacrifice
of a pair of turtledoves or two young
pigeons, in accordance with the
dictate in the law of the Lord.
Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting
the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had
seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when
the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in
regard to him, He took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: “Now Mas-
ter, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes
have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a
light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.”
The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him, and
Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother: “Behold, this child is des-
tined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted—and you yourself a sword will pierce—so that the thoughts of many
hearts may be revealed.”
There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of
Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband
after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.
She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and
prayer.. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and
spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem.
When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. The child grew and became
strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

La Sagrada Familia de Jesús, Maria y José
Transcurrido el tiempo de la purificación de María, según la
ley de Moisés, ella y José llevaron al niño a Jerusalén para
presentarlo al Señor, [ de acuerdo con lo escrito en la ley:
Todo primogénito varón será consagrado al Señor, y también
para ofrecer, como dice la ley, un par de tórtolas o dos pichones. Vivía en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón, varón
justo y temeroso de Dios, que aguardaba el consuelo de Israel; en él moraba el Espíritu Santo, el cual le había revelado
que no moriría sin haber visto antes al Mesías del Señor.
Movido por el Espíritu, fue al templo, y cuando José y María
entraban con el niño Jesús para cumplir con lo prescrito por
la ley, Simeón lo tomó en brazos y bendijo a Dios, diciendo:
"Señor, ya puedes dejar morir en paz a tu siervo, según lo
que me habías prometido, porque mis ojos han visto a tu
Salvador, al que has preparado para bien de todos los pueblos; luz que alumbra a las naciones y gloria de tu pueblo,
Israel". El padre y la madre del niño estaban admirados de
semejantes palabras. Simeón los bendijo, y a María, la madre ¿e Jesús, le anunció: "Este niño ha sido puesto para ruina y resurgimiento de muchos en Israel, como signo que provocará contradicción, para que queden al descubierto los
pensamientos de todos los corazones. Y a ti, una espada te
atravesará el alma". Había también una profetisa, Ana, hija
de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser. Era una mujer muy anciana.
De joven, había vivido siete años casada y tenía ya ochenta
y cuatro años de edad. No se apartaba del templo ni de día
ni de noche, sirviendo a Dios con ayunos y oraciones. Ana se
acercó en aquel momento, dando gracias a Dios y hablando
del niño a todos los que aguardaban la liberación de Israel.
Y ] cuando cumplieron todo lo que prescribía la ley del Señor,
se volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret. El niño iba
creciendo y fortaleciéndose, se llenaba de sabiduría y la gracia de Dios estaba con él.

Queridos hermanos y en hermanas en
Cristo,
La Navidad es celebrada y recordada de
muchas maneras. Para los niños, es la
sorpresa de un regalo que marca este
acontecimiento. Para la gente joven, es el
cuidado que se pone en cada regalo, particularmente, cuando por primera vez
pueden usar su propio dinero para la
compra de los regalos. Como papás, es la
alegría y felicidad que dejan una impresión permanente. Para
las personas mayores en la familia, es a menudo la unidad familiar la que les da la mayor satisfacción. Todo esto es muy bueno, pero cada una de estas cosas es parte de algo más grande.
La pregunta más básica es: ¿Qué significa la Navidad para
Dios?
La carta de San Pablo a los Hebreos nos dice que “En tiempos
pasados, Dios les habló de varias maneras a nuestros antepasados por medio de los profetas; en estos días, nos ha hablado a
través de su Hijo, a quien hizo heredero de todas las cosas, y en
quien refulge su gloria por ser imagen de su propio ser” Al
principio del Evangelio de San Juan, oímos que la palabra eterna se encarnó entre nosotros y se hizo luz para todo el mundo,
para que todos llegaran a comprender quien es Dios y cual es
nuestro destino de acuerdo al mismo plan de Dios.
Por lo tanto, la Navidad significa que debemos acomodar las
diferentes piezas de nuestras vidas y de nuestras experiencias –
las sorpresas, la generosidad, las alegrías, la unidad –
incluyendo el pecado, tomarlas y acomodarlas dentro del plan
de salvación de Dios por nosotros, revelado en Jesús de Nazaret, Hijo de Dios e Hijo de María.
Como discípulos de Jesucristo, vivimos bajo su luz en medio de
la oscuridad de nuestros propios pecados y de los del pecado
del mundo. Al mundo no le gusta ser expuesto como parcial o
pecador y resiste la luz ahora, así como sucedió al nacer Jesús.
Pero nada de lo que el mundo ofrece es eterno, nada dura por
siempre excepto la palabra de Dios encarnada en el vientre de la
Virgen María. Hoy, muchas celebraciones navideñas van a ser
más modestas en muchos hogares y las memorias serán diferentes de otros años. Pero lo que se hace en, con y a través de Cristo, la palabra eterna del Padre, se hará bien y durará perdurablemente.
Espero que dentro de un futuro próximo lleguemos a recordar
que esta fue la Navidad en que llegamos a comprender como
Dios permanece siempre entre nosotros, tanto en tiempos buenos como en tiempos malos, en tiempos de tinieblas como en
tiempos de luz mientras que permanezcamos en unidad con él.
Esta, habrá llegado a ser entonces una Navidad llena de bendiciones.
Le recordaré a usted y sus intenciones en mis Misas y oraciones
Navideñas. Por favor manténgame a mí y las intenciones de la
Arquidiócesis en sus propias oraciones.

ŚWIĘTO ŚWIĘTEJ RODZINY JEZUSA, MARYI I JÓZEFA
Gdy potem upłynęły dni ich oczyszczenia według Prawa Mojżeszowego, przynieśli Je do Jerozolimy, aby Je przedstawić Panu. Tak
bowiem jest napisane w Prawie Pańskim: Każde pierworodne dziecko płci męskiej będzie poświęcone Panu. Mieli również złożyć w
ofierze parę synogarlic albo dwa młode gołębie, zgodnie z przepisem Prawa Pańskiego. A żył w Jerozolimie człowiek, imieniem Symeon. Był to człowiek prawy i pobożny, wyczekiwał pociechy Izraela, a Duch Święty spoczywał na nim. Jemu Duch Święty objawił,
że nie ujrzy śmierci, aż zobaczy Mesjasza Pańskiego. Za natchnieniem więc Ducha przyszedł do świątyni. A gdy Rodzice wnosili
Dzieciątko Jezus, aby postąpić z Nim według zwyczaju Prawa, on
wziął Je w objęcia, błogosławił Boga i mówił: «Teraz, o Władco,
pozwól odejść słudze Twemu w pokoju, według Twojego słowa. Bo
moje oczy ujrzały Twoje zbawienie, któreś przygotował wobec
wszystkich narodów: światło na oświecenie pogan i chwałę ludu
Twego, Izraela». A Jego ojciec i Matka dziwili się temu, co o Nim
mówiono. Symeon zaś błogosławił Ich i rzekł do Maryi, Matki Jego:
«Oto Ten przeznaczony jest na upadek i na powstanie wielu w Izraelu, i na znak, któremu sprzeciwiać się będą. A Twoją duszę miecz
przeniknie, aby na jaw wyszły zamysły serc wielu». Była tam również prorokini Anna, córka Fanuela z pokolenia Asera, bardzo podeszła w latach. Od swego panieństwa siedem lat żyła z mężem i pozostała wdową. Liczyła już osiemdziesiąty czwarty rok życia. Nie rozstawała się ze świątynią, służąc Bogu w postach i modlitwach dniem
i nocą. Przyszedłszy w tej właśnie chwili, sławiła Boga i mówiła o
Nim wszystkim, którzy oczekiwali wyzwolenia Jerozolimy. A gdy
wypełnili wszystko według Prawa Pańskiego, wrócili do Galilei, do
swego miasta - Nazaret. Dziecię zaś rosło i nabierało mocy, napełniając się mądrością, a łaska Boża spoczywała na Nim.

którzy posługują w niej: jako
lektorzy, szafarze eucharystii,
chórzyści, marszałkowie, przewodniczący organizacji parafialnych, tym którzy sprzątają
lub spełniają jakiekolwiek inne
posługi dla dobra parafii.
Specjalna kolacja dla wszystkich osób zaangażowanych będzie miała miejsce 10go stycznia 2009 roku w Social Center. Przyjęcie
jest tylko i wyłącznie dla osób dorosłych, którzy
ukończyli 18 lat. Prosimy o wypełnienie poniższej
formy i wyrzucenie do koszyka wraz z niedzielną
kolektą do 4-go stycznia 2009.

Drodzy Bracia i Siostry w Chrystusie,
Boże Narodzenie pamięta się i obchodzi na wiele sposobów. Dla dzieci najważniejsza w tym dniu jest niespodzianka i prezenty. Dla młodzieży to
przemyślenia co komu można kupić,
zwłaszcza, że po raz pierwszy wydaje
się na to swoje pieniądze. Na rodzicach, zachwyt i radość dzieci robią
największe wrażenie. Dla starszego pokolenia, zgoda w rodzinie napawa ich często największą satysfakcją. Wszystkie
te przykłady to przejawy dobra, ale każdy z nich jest jedynie
częścią czegoś znacznie większego. Ważniejszym pytaniem
jest: czym jest Boże Narodzenie dla Boga? Św. Paweł w
liście do Hebrajczyków mówi nam, że „Wielokrotnie i na
różne sposoby przemawiał niegdyś Bóg do ojców przez proroków, a w tych ostatecznych dniach przemówił do nas
przez Syna. Jego to ustanowił dziedzicem wszystkich rzeczy, przez Niego też stworzył wszechświat Ten [Syn], który
jest odblaskiem Jego chwały i odbiciem Jego istoty.” Na
początku Ewangelii według Św. Jana, słyszymy, że wieczne
słowo Boże stało się ciałem i światłością świata tak, aby
wszyscy mogli zrozumieć kim jest Bóg i jakie jest nasze
przeznaczenie w Bożym planie.
Boże Narodzenie jest po to, abyśmy wzięli te wszystkie części składowe, tworzące nasze życie i doświadczenia – te
właśnie niespodzianki, hojność, radość, zgodę, i grzech też,
oczywiście – i wpisali je w Boży plan dla każdego z nas,
objawiony w osobie Jezusa z Nazaretu, Syna Boga i Syna
Maryi.
Jako uczniowie Jezusa Chrystusa, żyjemy Jego światłem w
ciemności naszych grzechów i grzechów całego świata.
Świat nie chce być postrzegany jako niedoskonały, czy

Słowem Bożym, które stało się ciałem w łonie Najświętszej
Marii Panny. Dzisiejsze obchody Świąt Bożego Narodzenia
w wielu domach będą skromniejsze, a związane z nimi
wspomnienia inne, niż w poprzednich latach. Lecz wszystko, co się staje w Chrystusie, z Chrystusem i przez Chrystusa, wieczne Słowo Boże, będzie zrobione dobrze i będzie
trwać na wieki.
Ufam, że za jakiś czas, to właśnie tegoroczne Święta będą
wspominane, jako te, podczas których zrozumieliśmy, że
Bóg jest zawsze z nami, na dobre i na złe, w ciemności i
jasności, jeśli tylko pozostaniemy w jedności z Nim. Wtedy
będzie to naprawdę święte Boże Narodzenie.
Będę pamiętać o Was i o Waszych intencjach podczas świątecznych mszy świętych i modlitw, a Was proszę o modlitwę za mnie i potrzeby Archidiecezji Chicago.

Polsce także naszej Archidiecezji. Czytając ten tygodnik a także inne publikacje np.: „Różaniec”, „Anioł stróż”,
„Rodzina Radia Maryja” pogłębiamy naszą wiarę oraz miłość do Boga i Kościoła.
Jest także do wzięcia za darmo gazeta „Katolik” wydawana przez naszą Archidiecezję Chicago.
