Średniowieczne mury miejskie Historyczne centrum miasta jest otoczone zachowanymi murami miejskimi z drugiej połowy XV wieku z 10 basztami i furtką z uliczki łączącej rynek Horní náměstí z nabrzeżem rzeki Bečvy. Do budowy murów użyto trawertynu z kamieniołomów w miejscowości Tučín i Majetín. Dziś do remontów jest wykorzystywany trawertyn z kamieniołomów w miejscowości Kokory. Częściowe oświetlenie murów w godzinach wieczornych i nocnych nadaje mu charakter tajemniczości. The Medieval town walls The historical town centre is surrounded by well preserved town walls from the 2nd half of the 15th century. It has 10 bastions and a wicket, which is an arterial street connecting the Upper Square and an embankment of the Bečva River. Until the 19th century, the town walls also included two town gates. Travertine from the quarries in Tučín and Majetín was used to build the walls. Today, in order to repair the walls, travertine from the quarries in Kokory is used. A mysterious atmosphere can be experienced when looking at the town walls during the evening and at late night hours, when the walls are partially floodlit. The atmosphere goes on beneath the town walls, an area utilized for relaxation, where a Baroque statue; Neptune, the Roman Sea God stands and governs the place. The Bečva River springs in Beskydy as the Rožnov and Vsetín Bečva, and becomes one river at Valašské Meziříčí. The Bečva River divides Přerov into two parts today but it used to run through the area in many curves and meanders. It used to have far more side branches, cutoffs and abandoned meanders, which were filled during floods and consumed substantial parts of the torrential waves. We know now that not all the works performed on the river between 1893 and 1933 brought benefit to the landscape. Moreover, the Bečva River has shown its enormous power several times since then. The most recent, it was in 1997 when not only Přerov, but also the whole region of Morava was damaged by extensive floods. www.prerov.eu
