is the kingdom of heaven.” This one confuses even Stewards.
Replace the word “humble” for “poor” and it makes more
sense. People that are humble recognize their dependence on
God and trust that He will provide all that they need. Unfortunately, for many of us, pride and ego enters our lives and we
think we can live without God. Remember—God first in all
circumstances.

THE CHOSEN REMNANT
Zephaniah is one of the least-known
of the Old Testament prophets. He
speaks in today’s first reading of
impending judgment. But the Lord
will leave a “remnant” in Israel. This
image of a remnant, or remainder,
was to become vital to both Judaism
and Christianity.
Paul’s letter to Corinth makes obvious his deep concern for
the Christians there. They are too self-confident, he says, too
sure of themselves. He admonishes them to remember that
Christ has given them all they have.
Today’s Gospel comprises the opening of Jesus’ “Great Sermon.” As God gave Moses the law on Sinai, so now Jesus gathers his disciples on a hillside to teach them the new law. Each
of these Beatitudes contrasts the humiliation of the present with
the glory of the future: poverty vs. the riches of God’s kingdom, hunger for holiness vs. fulfillment in the Spirit, persecution vs. the reign of God.

NATIONAL MIGRATION
AND CATHOLIC SCHOOLS MASS
We welcome Most Rev. Robert J. McManus, Bishop of
Worcester to St. Joseph Basilica and School Family for the observance of Catholic Schools Week and National Migration Week at
the 9:30 am Liturgy.
St. Joseph School is proud of the cultural diversity of our students who represent more than 20 ethnic groups. Fourteen different nationalities with the flags representing their heritage will be
marching in the entrance procession to recognize their spiritual
and cultural heritage during the Mass.
It has been a tradition since 2003 that during the Catholic
Schools Week we present a special “Partners in Education”
award to a person or persons who made a significant impact on
St. Joseph School community. This year we are pleased to present this award to Mrs. Ewa Mamro and Mrs. Karen Lefebvre.
Ewa served St. Joseph Parish and School in various capacities for
twenty years. She began as the Bookkeeper but as the need arose,
she filled in many other roles. In addition to her role in Finance
she served as the Marketing Coordinator, Technology Director,
Payroll and Benefits Coordinator, Tuition Manager, and the Business Manager. It is through her initiative that St. Joseph School
became a regional leader in technology. Ewa is being recognized
for her generous service to St. Joseph School and her enthusiastic
commitment to Catholic Education. Her expertise, loyalty, spirit
of team work, certainly qualify her for this special distinction.
Karen served as a member of St. Joseph Faculty since 2001. In
addition to her role as Teacher Karen volunteered her time and
expertise in many other areas. For many years Karen directed and
coordinated annual Christmas Pageants, served as the CORI liaison with the diocesan office, played the major role in the school’s
accreditation and re-accreditation process, provided her expertise
on the Technology Committee. Today, Karen is being recognized
for her dedication to Catholic Education, her generosity of time,
talent, and charitable works on behalf of the school. Mrs. Lefebvre’s students who go on to high schools are often placed in
Honors classes.
On behalf of St. Joseph School Family we extend our CONGRATULATIONS to these two special ladies, Ewa Mamro and
Karen Lefebvre! May they enjoy many God’s blessings in their
ministry to serve St. Joseph School and Parish!
ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE - on Sunday,
Jan. 29th from 11:00am—1:00pm with samplings of international food and entertainment will be provided in the school cafeteria.
On Wednesday, February 1st from 5-7:00pm another opportunity to take a tour of the school or schedule a free shadowing to become a part of the St. Joseph School Community.
Also, The Home School Association will be sponsoring a spaghetti and meatball dinner on Feb. 1st from 5-7:00pm in the
school cafeteria. Tickets are available at the school — $5 for
adults and $3 for students.
St. Joseph School is experiencing a significant increase in enrollment due to a strong educational curriculum and effective
character formation. We don’t intend to have two classes at each
grade level so registration will be accepted on a first come first
serve basis. We offer scholarships, the latest technology permeated by spirituality of the parish and patrimony of the Felician
Sisters.
PRESENTATION TO THE LORD
On Thursday, February 2nd, we will observe the Feast of
the Presentation of the Lord, sometimes referred to as Candlemas Day. On this day we commemorate the presentation
of Christ in the Temple and the ritual purification of the Virgin Mary.
Blessing of candles will take place during the 6:30am
Mass.
FEAST OF ST. BLAISE
We will celebrate the Feast of St. Blaise, physician, bishop
and martyr who is associated with the healing of throats.
Candles crossed in a special candelabrum will be used to
bless throats on Friday, February 3rd at the conclusion of all
First Friday Masses.
FIRST FRIDAY
We will observe First Friday of the month on the 3rd of
February at 7:00am which will be offered for the deceased
members of the Sacred Heart Society. Members and parishioners are invited to participate.
Scheduled adorers are asked to arrive at their appointed
time. Adoration will conclude at 3:00pm with the Chaplet to
the Divine Mercy followed by Benediction. Mass at 7:00pm
will be celebrated in the Polish language.
CHAPLET TO DIVINE MERCY
Please make a special effort to join parishioners, friends,
parish organizations and ministries as we recite the Chaplet
to the Divine Mercy on Sunday, February 5th at 3:00pm followed by Benediction
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
Please join us on Wednesday, February 1st at 7:00pm for
our continuing Novena and Devotion to our Patron, who is
not a saint for only a certain number of souls, but he can also
help each and everyone of us. His patronage and fatherly
protection is extended to all those who seek his graces.
We kindly ask that you use the prayer intention request
forms available in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to
print your needs legibly and place in the box provided.
Members of the #12980 council Knights of Columbus will
bring our patron’s statue into the sanctuary. We gladly accept your kind offerings.
Friday Night Bingo—our weekly bingo game will be
held on February 3rd in the St. Joseph School cafeteria.
Doors open at 5:00pm and games begin at 6:30pm. Members of the Sacred Heart Society will assist our players.

which so beautifully embellished our Basilica for the last

Holy Rosary Sodality is sponsoring their annual sale of

Pilgrimage to Fatima - nine-day tour scheduled for the first
part of August 2017 on the 100th Anniversary of the apparition
of the Blessed Mother.

“Reflections on the Prophets” - is designed for adult discussion of the portion of Holy Scripture. Next session will be

Adult Confirmation Information - The annual diocesan
celebration of Confirmation for adults will be held at the Cathedral of St. Paul on Sun. Feb. 12th at 3:00pm. This celebration
is intended for catechized Catholic adults (age 18+), who have
not been confirmed. The Office of Religious Education will
offer a retreat for those preparing to be confirmed at the diocesan celebration. The retreat will be held at the Immaculate
Conception Spiritual Renewal Center in Putnam, CT on Sun.,

17th Annual Diocesan Catholic Men’s Conference - men of

“Błogosławieni ubodzy w duchu,
albowiem do nich należy królestwo niebieskie.” (Mt 5, 3)
Każdy człowiek potrzebuje
głębokiego
poczucia
bezpieczeństwa, które ukoi jego
lęk. Ten upragniony dar możemy
znaleźć w imieniu Boga, który jest
źródłem naszego istnienia. „Przez
Niego bowiem jesteśmy” (por. 1
Kor 1,30). Utrudzeni poszukiwaniem, odarci i ubodzy, trafiamy
wreszcie do domu, którym jest sam Bóg, nasze schronienie.
Gdy ustaje pełne lęku zabieganie o samego siebie, pojawia się
duchowa przestrzeń wolności i męstwa. W niej dopiero może
rozkwitnąć życie według błogosławieństw.
MSZA INAUGURACYJNA
Bardzo serdecznie witamy w naszej wspólnocie ks. bpa
Roberta McManus na Mszy inaugurującej obchody
Narodowego Dnia Migracji i Tygodnia Szkół Katolickich. Do
naszej szkoły uczęszczają dzieci z 20 grup etnicznych.
Czternaścioro z uczniów będzie maszerowało w procesji na
wejscie niosąc flagi krajów swojeg pochodzenia i podkreslając
w ten sposób dziedzictwo kultury swojego narodu. Od godz.
11:00 w szkole rozpocznie się „Dzień Otwarty”, w czasie
którego będzie można odbyć „podróż” poprzez różnorodne
kraje, z których pochodzą nasi uczniowie. Dla wszystkich
uczestników odbędą się również występy w szkolnej kafeterii.
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona
na The Home Mission Appeal.
Druga kolekta w przyszłą niedzielę będzie przeznaczona
na zobowiązania wobec diecezji.

PARTNERS IN EDUCATION AWARD
Tradycyjenie od 2003 r., w czasie obchodów Tygodnie Szkół
Katolickich osoba lub osoby mające bardzo pozytywny wpływ
na funkcjonowanie Szkoły św. Józefaa zostają wyróżnione
podczas inauguracyjnej Mszy św. W tym roku nagrodę Partners
in Education otrzymują: Ewa Mamro oraz Karen Lefebvre.
Pani Ewa Mamro piastuje różnorodne funkcje w naszej
wspólnocie już od 20 lat. Rozpoczynała jako księgowa, ale w
miarę rosnących potrzeb podejmowała wiele innych ról:
Markieting Cooperator, Technology Director, Benefits
Coordinator, Tuition Manager oraz Busines Manager. To
między innymi dzięki jej inicjatywie, Szkoła św. Józefa stała
się liderem w użyciu najnowszych technologii w procesie
edukacji. Przyznana dla niej nagroda jest wyrazem
wdziecznoście za pełną poświęcenia pracę dla Szkoły oraz
zaangażowania w Edukację Katolicką. Jej doświadczenie,
lojalność, duch wspólnotowej współpracy bez wątpienia
kwalifikują ją do otrzymania tego wyjątkowego wyróżnienia.
Pani Karen Lefebvre pracuje w naszej szkole od 2001 roku
jako nauczycielka. Ofiarowuje swoje talenty również w innych
dziedzinach funkcjonowania szkoły. Przez wiele lat była
odpowiedzialna za przygotowanie i przebieg „Christmas
Show”, jest również odpowiedzialna za koordynację pomiedzy
szkołą a diecezją w sprawach dotyczących CORI. Dzięki jej
wytężonej pracy możliwa była akredydtacja i re-akredytacja
naszej szkoły, która miała miejsce w latach ubiegłych. Miała
również swój ogromny wkład w pracę Technology Committee.
Wielu uczniów z klas, którymi sie opiekowała, po odejściu do
szkół średnich, jest bardzo wysoko oceniana i zaliczana do
Honor Class.
Serdecznie gratulujemy i życzymy obydwy paniom dalszych
sukcesów.
DZIEŃ OTWARTYCH DRZWI
Druga tura „Open House” odbędzie się w środę w godzinach
od 17:00 do 19:00. Tego dnia, po uprzednim umówieniu się
telefonicznie, można zwiedzić szkołę w towarzystwie
pracownika szkoły lub też umówić się na tzw. „shadowing”,
czyli pobyt dziecka w szkole w trakcie zajęć szkolnych.”
Dla odwiedzających będzie również serwowany posiłek
przygotowany przez Home School Association.
DZIEŃ ŚW. BŁAŻEJA
Tradycyjnie w dzień wspomnienia liturgicznego św. Błażeja,
3 lutego, modlimy się, za przyczyną tego szczególnego
świętego, prosząc o pomoc w chorobach gardła.
Błogosławieństwo gardeł odbędzie się po każdej Mszy tego
dnia.
PIERWSZY PIĄTEK MIESIĄCA
Również w piątek, 3 lutego przypada pierwszy piątek
miesiąca. O godz. 7:00 rano będziemy modlili się w intencji
zmarłych członków Sacred Heart Society. Jak w każdy
pierwszy piątek miesiąca zapraszamy do osobistej adoracji
Najświętszego Sakramentu, która potrwa do godz. 15:00 i
zostanie zakończona Koronką do Miłosierdzia Bożego.
Spowiedź Pierwszopiątkowa rozpocznie się o godz. 18:30. A
o godz. 19:00 Msza św. po polsku połączona z
pierwszopiątkową adoracją oraz błogosławieństwem gardeł.
NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
Bardzo serdecznie zapraszamy w środę, 1 lutego na Nowennę
do św. Józefa, który , nie jest patronem jedynie pewnej grupy
wiernych, ale każdego z nas, gdyż jego opieka rozciąga się na
cały Kościół Powszechny.
W tym tygodniu w procesji z figurą św. Józefa pójdą Rycerze
Kolumba.

PIEROGI I GOŁĄBKI
Holy Rosary Sodality organizuje sprzedaż pierogów i
gołąbków. Tuzin pierogów można nabyć za $9 oraz cztery
gołąbki za $7. Zamówienia będą zbierane do 12 lutego. Odbiór
zamówień w sobotę 25 lutego i w niedzielę 26 lutego w szkole.
Formularze zamówień są dostępne przy wejściach do Bazyliki.
RELIGIA
Katecheza – Najbliższe zajęcia katechetyczne odbędą się w
poniedziałek, 30 stycznia o godz. 17:30 w szkole.
Bierzmowanie – Najbliższe spotkanie do Bierzmowania
odbędzie się 6 lutego o godz. 17:30 w szkole.
PODZIĘKOWANIE
Tegoroczne Święta Bożego Narodzenia niestety już się
zakończyły. Zniknęła tez cała świąteczna dekoracja z naszej
świątyni. Tak samo jak przy jej ustawianiu, tak również i przy
rozmontowywaniu potrzeba jest ogromnego wysiłku i pracy. W

PIELGRZYMKA DO FATIMY
Z okzaji obchodów 100 lecia Objawień Fatimskich
organizujemy pielgrzymkę do tego świętego miejsca.
Planujemy dziewięciodniowy wyjazd w pierszej połowie
sierpnia. W programie pielgrzymki między innymi:
• odwiedzini Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Fatimskiej ,
zwiedzanie miejscowosci Aljuster gdzie mieszkali
Fraciszek, Hiacynta i Łucja,
• zwiedzanie Valinhos - miejsca piątego obiawienia,
• wycieczka autokarowa do Sewilii, Madrytu, Barcelony i Mont Serrat.
