Stewardship Note: “It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.” (Matthew 4:10) Tempted between the riches and power of this world and service to God, Jesus chose service to His Father. If we wish to truly follow Jesus, we, too, must decide to turn away from power and riches and put God at the center of our lives. Genesis—through the Adam and Eve narrative—explains that we got separated from God and happiness through greed, selfishness and arrogance. But, as Paul explained to the Romans, God has not abandoned us, and never will. We get out through the “new Adam,” Jesus Christ, through whom the death of sin is conquered by the life of “overflowing grace.” From the start, though, Jesus—like Adam and Eve, like you and me—had to face “the tempter.” Shown fame and wealth, he was tempted to grab for it. But Jesus saw through such foolishness. During Lent we will look at what the tempter spreads before us daily, then try to make choices that put us on the side of the angels. SHARING OUR BLESSINGS-March 2, 2014 Weekly $5771.91 (including $242.91 in loose money) Diocesan Obligations $1288.35 (including $81.35 in loose money:) Fuel $65; Electronic Giving $240 Weekly Budget $7000 - $371.26 over budget This week’s second collection is for Higher Utility and Energy Costs. Don’t forget to set your clock forward one hour before retiring Saturday. BISHOP ROBERT MCMANUS’ LENTEN MESSAGE At the beginning of Lent 2014, our Bishop urges all of us to enter this privileged time of grace with a renewed sense of gratitude for the gift of our salvation that Christ won for us through his life, passion, death and resurrection. Lent provides each of us with the opportunity to reflect more deliberately and intensely on our relationship to God and the Church. This liturgical season is also a period when the Church invites us to pray, fast and perform works of charity. These time-honored penitential practices help us to grow in a spirit of self-denial and humility. It is not easy to admit to ourselves and others that we are sinners and in need of God’s forgiveness and redeeming grace. Remember to take advantage of our “Come Home to God’s Mercy” initiative and experience the humbling act of confessing our sins as we enter deeply into the mystery of the tender mercy of God who wishes that we all be saved and none of us lost. LENTEN SCHEDULE Confession - every day during Lent after the 6:30am Mass and on Tuesdays from 7:00—8:00pm and Saturday at 3:00pm. Sunday– Childrens’ Lenten Mass at 9:30am. Christina Ralph (508) 635-4222, [email protected] Page 5 KRONIKA PARAFIALNA PIERWSZA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU 9 marca 2014 „Panu, Bogu swemu, będziesz oddawał pokłon i Jemu samemu służyć będziesz.” Te uświęcone praktyki pokutne pomagają nam wzrastać w duchu wyrzeczenia i pokory. Zainteresowanych prosimy o kontakt z ks. Jim Mazzone, Diocesan Director of Vocations (508) 3405788.
