Stewardship Note: “After John had been arrested, Jesus came
to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God. . .” Do you ever
think about how difficult it must have been for Jesus to come
into Galilee, knowing that John had just been arrested for teaching the same message that Jesus was proclaiming. It must have
taken great love and trust for Jesus to do what the Father had
sent Him here on earth to do. In the same way, following a life
of stewardship takes great love and trust from us. We must be
willing to surrender completely to God, trusting that God will
always give us all that we need to fulfill His plan for us.
FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
February 26, 2012
Your ways, O Lord, make known to me;
teach me your paths.—Psalm 25:4
REPENT AND BELIEVE IN THE GOSPEL
Lent is the time of year we devote to scrutinizing our lives in
the light of our baptism into the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Today’s readings are a nice shorthand catechism of what our
baptized lives mean. As Noah passed through the waters of the
flood to a covenant with God, so did we enter into a covenant,
a promised relationship with God through our baptism.
Peter’s letter gives an explicit explanation of what our baptism means: it is an appeal we make to God for a clear conscience. How do we obtain this clear conscience. The words
proclaimed by Jesus immediately following his temptation
show us the way: “Repent, and believe in the gospel”. It might
be a good spiritual exercise to keep these readings before us
throughout the entire season of Lent, a means to help us to return to a life lived by our baptismal promises.
Second collection this week is designated for the Church of
Latin America.
Next weekends collection will be for Diocesan Obligations.
LENTEN SCHEDULE
Lenten Season is a time of personal renewal, a new beginning
and hope. We provide adequate devotional services to deepen
our spiritual life. We encourage the faithful of St. Joseph Basilica to especially pray for those who do not worship God, who
forgot their Creator and reduced their vision to only life on this
earth. A prayer for conversion by parents and friends is essential and the only effective tool to bring non-believers to embrace Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior. Reading of Scriptures, alms giving and acts of charity should become our daily
practice.
Every Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm we have devotion called
Gorzkie Zale. The psalms reflect the passion of Jesus Christ,
(English text will be provided).
On Tues. from 7:00-8:00pm throughout the Diocese we
have the opportunity to experience God’s mercy through the
Sacrament of Reconciliation.
On Fridays at 1:30pm we have Stations of the Cross for our
students and adults are welcome. Also at 7:00pm we will pray
the Stations of the Cross in the Polish language.
Additionally during the week in this Lenten Season confessions will be heard following the last morning Mass.

Reminder: Pick up for pierogi & golabki is this weekend on
Sat., Feb. 25th from 2-5:30pm and Sun. Feb. 26th from 910:30am in the School Hall.
OPEN HOUSE
The donated property situated at 88 Lake Street is for sale.
Open House is scheduled for Sunday, February 26 from 12
noon to 2:00pm. This house is totally renovated and ready for
immediate occupancy. The asking price is $129,900. We invite parishioners to attend this open house to view this excellent
piece of property.
FIRST FRIDAY
First Friday adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take
place after the 7:00am Mass on Mar. 2nd and continue throughout the day concluding at 3:00pm with the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by benediction. Adorers are asked to attend at their scheduled time. A Mass will also be celebrated at
7:00pm in the Polish Language.
Please note: All members and parishioners are invited to join
us at the 7:00am Mass which is designated for either the living
or deceased members of the Sacred Heart Society.
RETREAT
Missions and retreats during the Lenten Season play an important role for individuals and the parish communities. During
this Jubilee Year as we assess our parish goals and objectives,
we also need to reflect on our personal spiritual development.
We have scheduled a retreat around the Solemnity of St. Joseph Day which begins on Sat., Mar. 17th and will conclude on
Wed. Mar. 21st. It will be conducted by Msgr. James Moroney.
The theme of this spiritual renewal is “formed by the traditions
of the Church and constructing the future”. This years retreat in
the Polish language will be conducted by Bishop Stanislaw
Stefanek, of the Diocese of Lomza Poland. The main celebration of the Solemnity of St. Joseph will take place Monday,
March 19th at 6:30 pm. This is also a Day of Indulgence at our
Basilica. Please mark your calendar.
We are also reaching out to those, who for whatever reason
are far way from the Church, and asking them to come home
and participate in the retreat and to celebrate this Jubilee Year
with us. May we ask you to offer your prayers, good deeds and
acts of charity for a particular person who in your judgment
needs conversion of heart.
Additional information will be forthcoming in next week’s
bulletin.

The Parish Council has voted that we conduct a Parish Census
during our Jubilee Year. Details to follow.

been given. Class resumes on Mar. 5th.
Lenten Flower Sacrifices - Please remember to make loving
sacrifices and do good deeds for others during the week. Papers are provided on the back table for children to write down
their sacrifices and good deeds. At the Offertory, they will be
invited to bring their papers up to the cross and put them in the
“Lenten Flower Sacrifice Basket”. They will then receive a
flower to place at the base of the cross. Their sacrifices will
turn into a beautiful gift for Jesus at Easter!
CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP
30 Hour Famine—Info Night - Youths in grades 9-12 (and
their parents) are invited to participate in a 30 Hour Famine to
raise money and awareness of those who go hungry on Mar. 3031 at St. Louis Church hall. An informational meeting will be
held on Thurs., Mar. 1st at 6:30pm in St. Louis Church hall to
discuss the famine.
Summer Play Auditions - will be held on Mar. 6th through
Mar. 8th from 6-7:00pm at the Youth Center. Contact Mrs.
Valcour for more information.
Youth Mass & Choir Practice - The next Youth Mass will
be on Sun., Mar. 11th at our Basilica at 9:30am. Refreshments
to follow Mass at the Youth Center. Everyone is welcome!
Choir practice for mass will be Thurs., Mar. 8th from 78:00pm at the Youth Center. New faces and voices welcome!
Soup Meal - The Youth Group will host the 3rd Annual Soup
Meal on Sun., Mar 18th from 11:00am—2:00pm at St. Louis
Church Hall to raise money for St. Vincent de Paul and the
Bread of Life Kitchen. There is no set charge but monetary
donations gladly accepted. Soup bowls hand painted by Youth
Group members will be auctioned off. If you would like to

PIERWSZA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU

„Daj mi poznać drogi Twoje, Panie, i naucz mnie Twoich ścieżek!” (Ps 25, 4)
Jezus udając się na pustynię, by
odbyć czterdziestodniowy post,
prowadzony był przez Ducha
Świętego. Mógł się oprzeć każdej
pokusie szatańskiej, bo miał poczucie synowskiej więzi z Ojcem,
której nie zdołał naruszyć zły
duch. Nasza wielkopostna pokuta
swoje motywy znajduje w wierze i w miłości do Boga.
Nie może być pustym gestem ani czynnością niewolniczą, wymuszoną zewnętrznymi okolicznościami, choćby
nawet „świętymi”. Przez chrzest, który nas wybawił
z potopu grzechu, staliśmy się przybranymi dziećmi Boga, kierowanymi przez Ducha Bożego, i dlatego autentyczne chrześcijańskie nawrócenie dokonuje się
w wolności i radości.
PIERWSZY PIĄTEK MIESIĄCA
Pierwszopiątkowa adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu
rozpocznie się po Mszy św. o godz. 7:00 i zakończy się
Koronką do Miłosierdzia Bożego o godz. 15:00. Zachęcamy serdecznie do nawiedzenia świątyni i oddania czci
Panu obecnemu w Eucharystii. Przed Mszą św. wieczorną
możliwość spowiedzi od godz. 18:00.
REKOLEKCJE WIELKOPOSTNE
Misje i rekolekcje wielkopostne odgrywają bardzo ważna rolę w duchowości zarówno w wymiarze osobistym,
jak i wspólnotowym. W naszej parafii rekolekcje zostały
zaplanowane w drugiej połowie marca, w połączeniu z
uroczystością odpustową ku czci św. Józefa (19 marca).
Rozpoczną się w sobotę 17 marca i potrwają do środy 21
marca. Będziemy gościli dwóch rekolekcjonistów: w języku angielskim nauki głosić będzie ks. prałat James Maroney, a w języku polskim ks. bp Stanisław Stefanek, biskup emeryt z diecezji łomżyńskiej.
Zwracamy się z tej okazji do wszystkich parafia z
ogromna prośbą o modlitwę, dobre uczynki i akty pokuty
ofiarowane w intencji tych, którzy odsunęli się od Boga i
Kościoła. Poprzez ofiarę i modlitwę prośmy Pana o łaskę
nawrócenia i powrotu dla wszystkich, którzy nie kroczą
Bożymi drogami.
PRZYPOMNIENIE
Odbiór zamówionych pierogów i gołąbków Przygotowanych przez Holy Rosary Sodality już w ten weekend: sobota w godzinach od 14:00 do 17:00; niedziela w godzinach od 9:00 do 10:30.
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na pomoc Kościołowi w Ameryce Łacińskiej .

Przypominamy i zachęcamy do praktykowania w czasie
Wielkiego Postu trzech podstawowych praktyk pokutnych, a mianowicie: modlitwy, postu i jałmużny.

Najbliższe spotkanie kandydatów do Bierzmowania w
poniedziałek 5 marca.
Wielkopostne dobre uczynki. Zachęcamy wszystkich
a szczególnie dzieci i młodzież do podejmowania
wyrzeczeń i spełniania dobrych uczynków, które pozwolą
rozwijać własną duchowość i jednocześnie pomogą
innym potrzebującym. Wszystkie podjęte dobre uczynki i
akty ofiarne należy wypisać na kartkach dostępnych z
tyłu kościoła, a następnie przynieść je w czasie Mszy św.
w procesji z darami ofiarnymi do ołtarza, gdzie zostaną
one zamienione na kwiaty, które będą umieszczane przy
krzyżu wielkanocnym.
CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP
30 godzinny post – młodzież z klas od 9 do 12 oraz ich
rodzice są zaproszeni do wzięcia udziału w 30 godzinnym
poście, który rozpocznie się wieczorem 30 marca w St.
Louis Chuch Hall. Wydarzenie to ma na celu pomóc
młodym ludziom w zrozumieniu potrzeb i sytuacji innych
ludzi, którzy na co dzień borykają się z problemami w
zaspokojeniu elementarnych potrzeb.
Msza Młodzieżowa – W miesiącu marcu grupa
młodzieżowa będzie gościła w naszej Bazylice
uczestnicząc wspólnie z nami w uroczystej Eucharystii.
To wspaniała okazja do zaczerpnięcia z potencjału wiary
naszej młodzieży i jednocześnie podzielenia się z nimi
naszym przeżywaniem relacji z Bogiem. Tych, którzy
chcą się dołączyć do wspólnotowej modlitwy zapraszamy
w niedzielę 11 marca na Mszę św. o godz. 9:30.
Soup Meal – Grupa młodzieżowa już po raz trzeci
organizuje Annual Soup Meal. Wydarzenie to odbędzie
się w St. Louis Chuch Hall 18 marca w godzinach od
11:00 do 14:00. Za oferowane posiłki nie będzie
pobierana opłata, jednakże mile widziane są ofiary
pieniężne, które pozwolą wesprzeć organizacje
charytatywne: St. Vincent de Paul oraz Bread of Life
Kitchen. Dla wsparcia potrzebujących będzie można
również nabyć na aukcji talerze ręcznie malowane przez
młodzież . Zainteresowanych pomocą prosimy o kontakt

DZIEŃ OTWARTY
Informujemy, że ofiarowany dla parafii dom wraz z
działką znajdujący się przy 88 Lake St. jest wystawiony
na sprzedaż. Dom został gruntownie wyremontowany
ubiegłego lata. Między innymi przebudowano kuchnię i
łazienkę, odnowiono ściany i podłogi... i obecnie dom jest
