Economic crisis can teach us many valuable stewardship lessons. We are quickly realizing that as individuals

CELEBRATION OF MASS DURING THE
CURRENT SITUATION OF
THE H1N1 VIRUS
While it has not reached epidemic proportions here in the Archdiocese of Chicago,
there have been local reports of a few individuals contracting the H1N1 Virus. At this time, as well as any
other, it is important to practice good hygiene and to remember
good common sense. All of us would do well to remember that
frequent cleansing of the hands, either with soap and water or with
an alcohol based anti-bacterial solution, combats the spread or
contraction of the flu. This need is especially important for those
who minister Holy Communion during the celebration of the
Eucharist.
Those who feel ill should especially act responsibly. Refraining
from taking Holy Communion from the Chalice, sharing the sign of
peace with a simple nod of the head and the verbal exchange of
Christ’s peace instead of shaking hands, and avoiding close contact with others will go a long way in helping prevent others from
catching the same illness.
While there are no plans at this point in the Archdiocese of Chicago to suspend or change either the Rite of Peace or Holy Communion from the Chalice, all Catholics should exercise prudence
while participating in the celebration of the Eucharist.

answers regarding the Swine Flu and Liturgy on their website. You

An interactive communication that invites

staff. The upcoming weekly schedule of guest bloggers includes Sr. M. Paul McCaughey, O.P., Superintendent of

Catholic Chicago Blog joins a number of new media initiatives

Gospel: Mark 5:21-43
Jesus heals a woman afflicted with a
hemorrhage and raises Jairus’s daughter from death.
There are many ways in which we can
compare the request for healing made
by Jairus and the request of the woman
with the hemorrhage in today’s Gospel. One comparison helps
us think about prayer. Jairus asked Jesus for healing on his
daughter's behalf; the woman with the hemorrhage had no one
to speak for her and bravely approached Jesus on her own initiative. In our prayers, we do both. We intercede for others'
needs, and we also courageously express our own needs to
God. We find hope in Jesus' response to both of these people,
who sought him out in their hour of need. .As you gather as a
family this week, talk about some of the things you will pray for.
Notice that some of your prayers may be for other people, and
some of your prayers may be for your own needs. In today's
Gospel we find encouragement for both kinds of prayer. Notice
in today’s gospel that both people received the healing they
sought from Jesus. We want to pray for the needs of others and
for our own needs with as much faith and hope as Jairus and

will be sales of many items that we will need
for our Summer Fest and Carnival beginning
on Thursday, August 20th. We ask our parishioners again (as we have in the past) to donate any of the following items for our parish
event –your support has been tremendous in
the past—can we count on your generosity

Please bring edible items like hot dogs, hamburgers, buns close to
the opening date of the carnival. These items can be dropped off
at the rectory during office hours between 9AM and 5PM.

13 Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
En aquel tiempo, Jesús pasó de
nuevo en la barca a la otra orilla y
se aglomeró junto a Él mucha gente; Él estaba a la orilla del mar.
Llega uno de los jefes de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo, y al verle, cae
a sus pies, y le suplica con insistencia diciendo: «Mi hija está a
punto de morir; ven, impón tus
manos sobre ella, para que se salve
y viva». Y se fue con él. Le seguía
un gran gentío que le oprimía.
Entonces, una mujer que padecía
flujo de sangre desde hacía doce
años, y que había sufrido mucho con muchos médicos y había
gastado todos sus bienes sin provecho alguno, antes bien, yendo a peor, habiendo oído lo que se decía de Jesús, se acercó por
detrás entre la gente y tocó su manto. Pues decía: «Si logro
tocar aunque sólo sea sus vestidos, me salvaré». Inmediatamente se le secó la fuente de sangre y sintió en su cuerpo que
quedaba sana del mal. Al instante, Jesús, dándose cuenta de la
fuerza que había salido de Él, se volvió entre la gente y decía:
«¿Quién me ha tocado los vestidos?». Sus discípulos le contestaron: «Estás viendo que la gente te oprime y preguntas:
‘¿Quién me ha tocado?’». Pero Él miraba a su alrededor para
descubrir a la que lo había hecho. Entonces, la mujer, viendo lo
que le había sucedido, se acercó atemorizada y temblorosa, se
postró ante Él y le contó toda la verdad. Él le dijo: «Hija, tu fe
te ha salvado; vete en paz y queda curada de tu enfermedad».
(…) Llegan a la casa del jefe de la sinagoga y observa el alboroto, unos que lloraban y otros que daban grandes alaridos.
Entra y les dice: «¿Por qué alborotáis y lloráis? La niña no ha
muerto; está dormida». Y se burlaban de Él. Pero Él después
de echar fuera a todos, toma consigo al padre de la niña, a la
madre y a los suyos, y entra donde estaba la niña. Y tomando
la mano de la niña, le dice: «Talitá kum», que quiere decir:
«Muchacha, a ti te digo, levántate». La muchacha se levantó al
instante y se puso a andar, pues tenía doce años. Quedaron
fuera de sí, llenos de estupor. Y les insistió mucho en que nadie
lo supiera; y les dijo que le dieran a ella de comer.

Dos ejemplos de fe
Hoy el Evangelio nos presenta dos milagros de Jesús que nos
hablan de la fe de dos personas bien distintas. Tanto Jairo -uno
de los jefes de la sinagoga- como aquella mujer enferma muestran una gran fe: Jairo está seguro de que Jesús puede curar a
su hija, mientras que aquella buena mujer confía en que un
mínimo contacto con la ropa de Jesús será suficiente para liberarla de una enfermedad muy grave. Y Jesús, porque son personas de fe, les concede el favor que habían ido a buscar.
Dos grandes lecciones de fe para nosotros. Desde las páginas
del Evangelio, Jairo y la mujer que sufría hemorragias, juntamente con tantos otros, nos hablan de la necesidad de tener una
fe inconmovible. Podemos hacer nuestra aquella bonita exclamación evangélica: «Creo, Señor, ayuda mi incredulidad.»

13 Niedziela w Ciągu Roku
Gdy Jezus przeprawił się z powrotem łodzią na drugi
brzeg, zebrał się wielki tłum wokół Niego, a On był
jeszcze nad jeziorem. Wtedy przyszedł jeden z przełożonych synagogi, imieniem Jair. Gdy Go ujrzał,
upadł Mu do nóg
i prosił usilnie:
„Moja córeczka
dogorywa,
przyjdź i połóż na
nią ręce, aby ocalała i żyła”. Poszedł więc z nim,
a wielki tłum
szedł za Nim.
Przyszli ludzie do
przełożonego synagogi i donieśli: „Twoja córka
umarła, czemu jeszcze trudzisz Nauczyciela?”
Lecz Jezus słysząc, co mówiono, rzekł przełożonemu
synagogi : „Nie bój się, tylko wierz”. I nie pozwolił
nikomu iść z sobą z wyjątkiem Piotra, Jakuba i Jana,
brata Jakubowego.
Tak przyszli do domu przełożonego synagogi. Wobec zamieszania, płaczu i głośnego zawodzenia
wszedł i rzekł do nich: „Czemu robicie zgiełk i płaczecie? Dziecko nie umarło, tylko śpi”. I wyśmiewali
Go.
Lecz On odsunął wszystkich, wziął z sobą tylko ojca,
matkę dziecka oraz tych, którzy z Nim byli, i wszedł
tam, gdzie dziecko leżało. Ująwszy dziewczynkę za
rękę, rzekł do niej: „Talitha kum”, to znaczy:
„Dziewczynko, mówię ci, wstań”. Dziewczynka natychmiast wstała i chodziła, miała bowiem dwanaście lat. I osłupieli wprost ze zdumienia. Przykazał
im też z naciskiem, żeby nikt o tym nie wiedział, i
polecił, aby jej dano jeść.

Dla samych duchownych to
szansa pogłębienia tożsamości kapłańskiej, a dla wiernych – zachęta do większej
modlitwy za kapłanów.
Przypominamy, że...
Przywrócona godność
Jezus sprawia, że owa kobieta z Ewangelii dosłownie i
symbolicznie wychodzi z cienia tłumu – historia jej cierpienia, odrzucenia i beznadziei zostaje wysłuchana. Więcej
– jej upokorzenie zostaje zrozumiane i nie doznaje potępienia, mimo religijnego prawa, które z powodu krwotoku
czyniło ja nieczysta. Ale to jeszcze nie koniec. Jezus wobec całego tłumu nazywa ją czule córką, błogosławi i pochwala jej wiarę. Jezus dokonuje prawdziwego cudu miłości – cudu, który przemienia całe życie. Nie tylko ciało
kobiety zostaje uzdrowione. Kobieta doświadcza akceptacji, czułości, uwagi i docenienia. Jej człowieczeństwo nabiera wartości.
