Prayer to Our Lady of Czestochowa
Invest in your child’s future! Faith shapes the
lives and curriculum in 256 Catholic Schools of
the Archdiocese of Chicago! St. Mary of
Czestochowa School is one of those “256”
schools!
Full days of school begin on Monday, August 25th. Parents are
reminded to send students with a lunch, as the hot lunch program
does not start until Tuesday, Sept. 2nd. An Orientation meeting for
parents of pre-schoolers will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at
6:30pm. An Orientation meeting for parents of Kdg. Through Gr. 8
students will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3rd at 6:30pm. For more

The next registration for Religious
Education Classes will take place
on Saturday, August 30th from
9AM to 1:00 PM in the school hall. Students from 2nd through 8th
grade are welcome to register for the program. Classes meet on
alternate Saturday mornings from 8AM to 10AM. Classes for the
2008-2009 school year will begin on Saturday, September 6, 2008
Welcom Nativity of Bethlehem! This weekend religious articles handcrafted from imported olive wood will be available for purchase in the
back of the church. Proceeds of the sale of these articles help the
workers in Bethlehem.

Recently we had the
opportunity to accompany
Cardinal Francis George,
together with 200 Chicago area Catholics, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the apparitions of the Blessed Mother to Bernadette.
As a part of this pilgrimage, we took the Jubilee Walk to gain a special indulgence. The walk included many sites which were part of the
life of St. Bernadette. We had the privilege to attend Mass in the actual
Grotto where the apparitions took place. The Mass, celebrated by the
Cardinal, was attended by hundreds of sick and disabled people who
come to the shrine as a sign of their deep faith. We also visited the
baptismal font in the local Church where St. Bernadette was baptized
and we were able to dip our hands into the font—quite a moving experience!
The Walk included a visit to the home where St. Bernadette was born
as well as the abandoned jail where she lived when her family became
destitute. The hospital where she received her First Holy Communion is
too small to handle the thousands of people who are visiting Lourdes
during this Anniversary year; but the local bishop had a special Adoration Chapel constructed where the Blessed Sacrament is enthroned. All
these sites provided us with a feeling of holiness and awe.
In the Domain, the main area surrounding the Grotto, there is a
“respectful quiet” and we were able to attend Masses at three of the
main chapels in that area—the Chapel of the Holy Rosary and the
Chapel of the Immaculate Conception are built over the Grotto, and the
Pope Pius X Chapel which is underground and seats over 25,000 people. This Chapel also contains enough space for hundreds of patients
in wheelchairs, on gurneys, and special carriages that are transported
from the local hospitals for each Mass.
Probably the most impressive and awe-inspiring experience we had
was to be part of the nightly procession which stretches over a mile and
mostly consists of the ill and disabled persons who come to Lourdes.
Their faith is so plainly evident. While we were at the Grotto Mass, we
presented petitions at the altar, but when we compared the petitions
that these people bring with them, ours seemed really small in comparison. By the way, our petitions did include a prayer for our parish and all
of its parishioners asking for the protection of the Immaculate Mother
and intercession with her Divine Son. The group from Chicago included
about twenty-five teens who served as volunteers to transport people
from the hospitals to various ceremonies, such as the Mass for Healing
and the International Mass, both celebrated by our Cardinal Francis
George. Their presence and the joy that emanated from them while
doing their task gave us a stronger faith and a knowledge that the
Catholic Church is alive and well all over the world. Tourist groups,
present along with us, represented every continent on earth. The reassuring thing about our religion is that no matter where we travel in the
world, the Catholic Religion is there; and God is present in all His
Glory!

La Fiesta Patronal de la Virgen de Czestochowa
Al tercer Día se Celebró una boda en Caná de Galilea, y estaba Allí la madre de Jesús.
Fue invitado también Jesús con sus Discípulos a la boda.
Y como Faltó el vino, la madre de Jesús le dijo: --No tienen vino.
Jesús le dijo: --¿Qué tiene que ver eso conmigo y contigo, mujer? Todavía
no ha llegado mi hora.
Su madre dijo a los que Servían: --Haced todo lo que él os diga.
Había Allí seis tinajas de piedra para agua, de acuerdo con los ritos de los
Judíos para la Purificación. En cada una de ellas Cabían dos o tres medidas.
Jesús les dijo: --Llenad de agua las tinajas. Y las llenaron hasta el borde.
Luego les dijo: --Sacad ahora y llevadlo al encargado del banquete. Se lo
llevaron;
y cuando el encargado del banquete Probó el agua ya hecha vino, y no
Sabía de Dónde Venía (aunque los sirvientes que Habían sacado el agua
Sí lo Sabían), Llamó al novio
y le dijo: --Todo hombre sirve primero el buen vino; y cuando ya han tomado bastante, entonces saca el inferior. Pero Tú has guardado el buen vino
hasta ahora.
Este principio de señales hizo Jesús en Caná de Galilea, y Manifestó su
gloria; y sus Discípulos creyeron en él. (J 2,1-11)
¿Quién es María?
María nació en Nazaret, Galilea, 15 ó
20 años antes del nacimiento de Cristo. Sus padres, según la tradición,
fueron Joaquín y Ana. María era
judía. Fue educada en la lectura de
los libros santos y en la obediencia a
la ley de Dios. Hizo voto de virginidad. Se desposó con José estando
ambos de acuerdo en permanecer
vírgenes por amor a Dios. Un ángel
del Señor se le apareció y le comunicó que el Espíritu Santo descendería
sobre ella, y que de ella nacería el
Hijo de Dios (Lc. 1, 35). María aceptó tan maravilloso destino con estas
palabras: «Hágase en mí según tu
Palabra», y en aquel instante Jesús fue concebido en su seno. El nacimiento del Niño fue en Belén de Judea y fue acompañado de diversas
circunstancias, que refieren los Evangelios de Mateo y de Lucas.
¿Qué se sabe acerca de María después del nacimiento de Jesús?
Al cabo de algún tiempo, vemos a María, a José y al Niño instalados
en Nazaret. Allí hay un solo episodio notorio: la pérdida y hallazgo del
Niño, a los 12 años, en Jerusalén. Fue el tiempo que llamamos de la
«vida oculta» de Jesús, su vida de hogar, de familia, de trabajo. Jesús
empieza su vida «pública», su vida apostólica y misionera, hacia los 30
años. María lo acompaña, a veces de cerca, a veces más lejos. El Evangelio nos la muestra en Caná asistiendo a un matrimonio, y al pie de la
cruz en que Jesús está muriendo. También en varias otras oportunidades. El libro de los Hechos la menciona en el Cenáculo junto a los
apóstoles, después de la Resurrección del Señor. La Tradición sugiere
que murió en Efeso -en el Asia Menor- en casa de Juan el Evangelista.

Santa Monica
Nació en Tagaste (Argelia). Sus padres la casaron con
un hombre mayor pagano, llamado Patricius, hombre
muy enérgico y de temperamento violento.
Mónica iba a la iglesia cada día
y soportó con paciencia el adulterio y los modos violentos de
su marido. Se ganó el afecto de
su suegra en poco tiempo e
incluso convirtió a Patricius al
cristianismo y calmó su violencia.
Mónica tuvo tres hijos. Uno de ellos fue San Agustín,
que le dio muchas alegrías por sus éxitos en los estudios, pero también la hizo sufrir por su vida descarriada.
Mónica envió a Agustín al obispo para que lo convenciera de sus errores, pero el obispo le aconsejó a Mónica
que siguiera rezando por su hijo, diciéndole "no se perderá el hijo de tantas lágrimas".
A la edad de 28 años, Agustín acogió la gracia de Dios y
se convirtió al cristianismo y recibió el bautismo. Mónica
se reunió con él al morir Patricius. Cuando Agustín se
preparaba para partir a Africa, Mónica murió en Ostia,
Italia.
Santa Mónica es puesta por la Iglesia como ejemplo de
mujer cristiana, de piedad y bondad probadas, madre
abnegada y preocupada siempre por el bienestar de su
familia, aún bajo las circunstancias más adversas.
Red Católica Legal de Inmigración (CLINIC)
La Red Católica Legal de Inmigración (CLINIC
por sus siglas en inglés) es una organización de
servicios legales de inmigración, subsidiaria de
la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Los Estados Unidos (USCCB por sus siglas en inglés).
Fundada en 1988, su misión es “aumentar y expandir la disponibilidad de servicios legales a
inmigrantes indigentes y de bajos recursos principalmente a través de programas de inmigración de las Diócesis y resolver las necesidades

Uroczystość Odpustowa M.B. Częstochowskiej
W Kanie Galilejskiej odbywało się wesele i była tam Matka Jezusa.
Zaproszono na to wesele także Jezusa i Jego uczniów. A kiedy zabrakło
wina, Matka Jezusa mówi do Niego: „Nie mają już wina”.
Jezus Jej odpowiedział: „Czyż to moja lub Twoja sprawa, Niewiasto? Jeszcze nie nadeszła godzina moja”.
Wtedy Matka Jego powiedziała do sług: „Zróbcie wszystko, cokolwiek wam
powie”.
Stało zaś tam sześć stągwi kamiennych przeznaczonych do żydowskich
oczyszczeń, z których każda mogła pomieścić dwie lub trzy miary.
Rzekł do nich Jezus: „Napełnijcie stągwie wodą”. I napełnili je aż po brzegi.
Potem do nich powiedział: „Zaczerpnijcie teraz i zanieście staroście weselnemu”. Ci zaś zanieśli.
A gdy starosta weselny skosztował wody, która stała się winem, i nie wiedział, skąd ono pochodzi, ale słudzy, którzy czerpali wodę, wiedzieli, przywołał pana młodego i powiedział do niego: „Każdy człowiek stawia najpierw
dobre wino, a gdy się napiją, wówczas gorsze. Ty zachowałeś dobre wino aż
do tej pory”.
Taki to początek znaków uczynił Jezus w Kanie Galilejskiej. Objawił swoją
chwałę i uwierzyli w Niego Jego uczniowie.

► Przy zapisaniu chrztu jest wymagany akt urodzenia
