Yearly Church Donation Statement
If you would like to receive a statement of your yearly donations to the
parish, please call the rectory office (708) 652-0948, Ext. 20 between the
hours of 9am and 1pm—Monday through Friday. The receptionist will
prepare the statement so that when you come to pick it up it will be ready.
Until further notice, the rectory office will close at 1pm because we are
in the process of searching for a new afternoon receptionist..
A Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on Tuesday,
January 15, 2008 in Makuch Hall - St. Mary of Czestochowa School at 6:30pm.
Vocation Awareness
The Magi came to do our Lord homage. How can we, as individuals living in today’s world, pay our Lord homage? Have
you ever thought of a vocation to the priesthood.
If you have ever thought about the priesthood and want to
take a closer look, consider participating in a retreat at Mundelein Seminary “Exploring Priesthood Weekend.” This retreat is
a time away for reflection and conversation which can be helpful in discovering your vocation in life. College-age and older
men are invited to the retreat on January 11-13, 2008. For

George. He will ask that you make a
pledge to the 2008 Annual Catholic
Appeal.
The Appeal not only funds the operations of the Archdiocese, it funds services that are of great help to ministries
here in our parish...for example our Parish School.
Your financial support is important. The success of the Appeal depends
upon the gifts given by each of us to support our Archdiocese. Each of our
gifts enables our parishioners to reach far beyond our parish boundaries.
They bring the light of Christ to many who are served through education,
ministry and services provided by the Archdiocese of Chicago.

The image of the Magi kneeling before the infant Jesus and opening
their treasure chests for Him is an
image that we should all try to follow.
Each of us is called to open our gifts before Jesus, offering Him what He needs. If you have trouble with this idea,
keep one of the Magi from your Nativity set on your desk
all this year as a reminder to bring your gifts to Jesus.

You are invited…….A VICARIATE EVENT—CELEBRATING CARDINAL GEORGE’S PASTORAL LETTER “DWELL IN MY LOVE.”
Our parish of St. Mary of Czestochowa is a part of Vicariate IV. On
Monday, January 21, 2008 all interested parishioners are invited to
St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 North Spring Avenue in LaGrange, IL
to hear stories by Susan O’Halloran highlighting the four types of
racism that Cardinal George writes about in - Dwell in My Love: A
Pastoral Letter on Racism.
With a delightful and captivating style, Susan O’Halloran, a well
know storyteller narrates stories that give insight into the four types
of racism mentioned in the Cardinal’s letter. The program will begin
at 7PM. It is less than an hour and a half and admission is free. A
free-will offering will be taken and two tickets will be raffled off for the
upcoming one man play, “Incognito,” that will be performed by Michael Fosberg on Friday, April 4, 2008 at Holy Name Cathedral
Auditorium.
It is the hope of the Archdiocesan Office for Racial Justice, that
“Stories of Race...Stories of Place...Stories of Grace” offered by
Susan O’Halloran, will inspire the faithful of the Archdiocese to work
passionately to end all forms of racism and injustice in our church
and society, thereby creating a hunger and thirst to dwell together in
God’s love.
The Vigil Light
The offering of a burning candle before our altars and
shrines is an act of prayer to God, our blessed Mother,
or the saints.
Watch and Pray
Because it signifies our watchfulness, we call it a vigil light. We call it a
votive light because we pray by means of this shining ,silent intercessor.
Light of the World
The Church employs candles widely in divine worship. She blesses them
on Candlemas day, uses them freely in her liturgy and in administering the
Sacraments. Our Bible is full of examples of religious use of fire and flame
by God’s people. In describing Himself, Christ said, “I am the Light of the
World.”
A Burning Prayer
We light a candle to show honor to God. It is a mark of our dedication, of
our confidence in His presence and promises. It is a sign also of our own
fidelity.
A Spiritual Gift
Through our vigil light we give outward, visible evidence of our spiritual
desires just as we do when we fast, sacrifice our own will, and give alms
to the poor. Thus, as we go to our daily tasks, the candle’s flame continues to express our worship, praise and petition.
God’s Response
Christ assures us that not even a cup of cold water given in His name will
go without its reward. Hence, we can be confident that He will be pleased
with our prayerful offering of a vigil light.

January 6 Epiphany of the Lord.
(Matthew 1:1-12)
If the frantic pace of the Christmas season had
dulled your spiritual instincts, try meditating on
the Magi. They were completely caught up with
looking for Jesus. They weren’t even Jewish,
but they pored over the Scriptures to find out
where he would be born. They didn’t have cars or maps, so to get to
Bethlehem, they rode camels and navigated by the light of a star.
After traveling thousands of miles, their first thought was not to find a
good place to rest. They wanted to give their gifts to the newborn king
right away!
Perhaps the enthusiasm of these Wise Men can give us a jump start.
We can reflect on the fact that we too are going to see Jesus. Unlike
the wise men, however, most us will only have to travel a short distance to reach him, and we’ll meet with few hardships along the wayusually nothing worse than traffic tie-ups or rowdy children!
Think about what a privilege it is to come to Mass. The Wise Men
saw Jesus face-to-face - but through the miracle of the Eucharist, he
comes to live inside of us! So many people are searching for God
right now, and whether they know it or not, they’re looking for just
what you have. “Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous
people longed to see what you see but did not see it.” (Matthew 1317).
After you receive Communion thank God for making you his child,
and for giving you his joy and his peace. But don’t forget to pray for
those who are still seeking him: your friends and co-workers, and all
those who are looking for the truth. Pray that you will be a witness to
them. Pray that your actions, words, and attitudes will help lead them
to Jesus. The best gift you can give the Lord today is a heart open to
spreading his love!
“Jesus, just as the Wise Men did, I kneel before you, gazing on your
glory in the Eucharist. May I become a tabernacle of your mercy,
shining your light everywhere I go.”

La Epifanía del Señor
Jesús nació en Belén de Judá en tiempos del rey Herodes.
Entonces, unos Magos de Oriente se presentaron en Jerusalén preguntando: ¿Dónde está el Rey de los Judíos que ha
nacido? Porque hemos visto salir su estrella y venimos a
adorarlo. Al enterarse el rey Herodes, se sobresaltó y todo
Jerusalén con él; convocó a los sumos pontífices y a los
letrados del país, y les preguntó dónde tenía que nacer el
Mesías. Ellos le contestaron: En Belén de Judá, porque así
lo ha escrito el Profeta: "Y tú. Belén, tierra de Judá, no eres
ni mucho menos la última de las ciudades de Judá; Pues de
ti saldrá un jefe que será el pastor de mi pueblo Israel”. Entonces Herodes llamó en secreto a los Magos, para que le
precisaran el tiempo en que había aparecido la estrella, y
los mandó a Belén diciéndoles: Id y averiguad cuidadosamente qué hay del niño y, cuando lo encontréis, avisadme,
para ir yo también a adorarlo. Ellos, después de oír al rey,
se pusieron en camino, y de pronto la estrella que había
visto salir comenzó a guiarlos hasta que vino a pararse encima de donde estaba el niño. Al ver la estrella, se llenaron
de inmensa alegría. Entraron en la casa, vieron al niño con
María, su madre, y cayendo de rodillas, lo adoraron: después, abriendo sus cofres, le ofrecieron regalos: oro, incienso y mirra. Y habiendo recibido en sueños un oráculo, para
que no volvieran a Herodes, se marcharon a su tierra por
otro camino.

LA FIESTA DE EPIFANÍA
La Iglesia celebra la epifanía a los doce
días de la navidad. Se trata de una fiesta
que tiene un carácter similar al de la anterior. Son fiestas compañeras, si no gemelas.
El nombre de "pequeña navidad" dado a la
epifanía expresa la idea popular de la fiesta
en la Iglesia occidental.
La epifanía es de origen oriental y, probablemente, comenzó a celebrarse en Egipto. De allí pasó a otras iglesias de Oriente, y posteriormente fue traída a Occidente, primero a la Galia, más tarde a Roma
y al norte de África. La aparición de esta fiesta al principio del siglo
IV coincidió aproximadamente con la institución de la navidad en
Roma.
La fiesta toma un carácter más universal. Dios deja de manifestarse
sólo a una raza, a un pueblo privilegiado, y se da a conocer a todo el
mundo. La buena nueva de la salvación es comunicada a todos los
hombres. El pueblo de Dios se compone ahora de hombres y mujeres de toda tribu, nación y lengua. La raza humana forma una sola
familia, pues el amor de Dios abraza a todos.

Objawienie Pańskie
Gdy Jezus narodził się w Betlejem w Judei za panowania
króla Heroda, oto Mędrcy ze Wschodu przybyli do Jerozolimy i pytali: "Gdzie jest nowo narodzony król żydowski?
Ujrzeliśmy bowiem Jego gwiazdę na Wschodzie i przybyliśmy oddać Mu pokłon". Skoro usłyszał to król Herod, przeraził się, a z nim cała Jerozolima. Zebrał więc wszystkich
arcykapłanów i uczonych ludu i wypytywał ich, gdzie ma
się narodzić Mesjasz. Ci mu odpowiedzieli: "W Betlejem
judzkim, bo tak napisał prorok: «A ty, Betlejem, ziemio
Judy, nie jesteś zgoła najlichsze spośród głównych miast
Judy, albowiem z ciebie wyjdzie władca, który będzie pasterzem ludu mego, Izraela»". Wtedy Herod przywołał potajemnie Mędrców i wypytał ich dokładnie o czas ukazania
się gwiazdy. A kierując ich do Betlejem, rzekł: "Udajcie się
tam i wypytujcie starannie o Dziecię, a gdy Je znajdziecie,
donieście mi, abym i ja mógł pójść i oddać Mu pokłon".
Oni zaś wysłuchawszy króla, ruszyli w drogę. A oto gwiazda, którą widzieli na Wschodzie, szła przed nimi, aż przyszła i zatrzymała się nad miejscem, gdzie było Dziecię.
Gdy ujrzeli gwiazdę, bardzo się uradowali. Weszli do domu
i zobaczyli Dziecię z Matką Jego, Maryją; upadli na twarz i
oddali Mu pokłon. I otworzywszy swe skarby, ofiarowali
Mu dary: złoto, kadzidło i mirrę. A otrzymawszy we śnie
nakaz, żeby nie wracali do Heroda, inną drogą udali się do
ojczyzny.

Uroczystość Objawienia Pańskiego należy
do pierwszych, które uświęcił Kościół. Na
Wschodzie pierwsze jej ślady spotykamy
już w III w. Tego właśnie dnia obchodził
Kościół grecki święto Bożego Narodzenia,
ale w treści znacznie poszerzonej: jako
uroczystość Epifanii, czyli zjawienia się
Boga na ziemi w tajemnicy wcielenia. Na
Zachodzie uroczystość Objawienia Pańskiego datuje się od końca IV
w. (oddzielnie od Bożego Narodzenia).
W Trzech Magach pierwotny Kościół widzi siebie, świat pogański,
całą rodzinę ludzką, wśród której zjawił się Chrystus, a która w swoich
przedstawicielach przychodzi z krańców świata złożyć Mu pokłon. Dla
podkreślenia uniwersalności zbawczej misji Chrystusa Pana, tradycja
chrześcijańska wśród Magów od bardzo już dawna umieszcza także
Murzyna. Uniwersalność zbawienia akcentują także: sama nazwa
święta, jego wysoka ranga i wszystkie teksty liturgii dzisiejszego dnia.

wdzięczność tym wszystkim, którzy posługują w niej: jako lektorzy, szafarze eucharystii, chórzyści, marszałkowie, przewodniczący organizacji parafialnych, tym
którzy sprzątają lub spełniają jakiekolwiek inne posługi dla dobra
parafii.
Specjalna kolacja dla wszystkich
osób zaangażowanych będzie miała miejsce 12-go
stycznia 2008 roku w Social Center. Przyjęcie jest
tylko i wyłącznie dla osób dorosłych, którzy ukończyli 18 lat. Prosimy o wypełnienie poniższej formy i
