which means “God is with us.” — Matthew 1:23
SUMMONED BY GOD
As Christmas draws near, Advent’s scriptures lure us into a world of dreams, signs,
wonders, and the miracle of the virgin birth.
Too often we allow the great stories of our
faith, the ones that are most familiar, simply
to wash over us. Today’s Gospel account of
the events leading up to the birth of the Lord
reads like a present-day soap opera. Yet
Joseph’s courage, even in the midst of what must have been an
incredibly confusing time, provides a model for us. Each week,
we are summoned by God to embrace the way of goodness and
truth through the proclamation of God’s holy word. Like Joseph, we are called to do as the Lord commands us. As we
stand at the threshold of Christmas, let us have the courage to
be open to whatever it is that the Lord will require of us as we
celebrate the miracle of Bethlehem.

ADVENT CANDLE
The fourth week of Advent we light the last purple candle,
called the Angel’s Candle,” which represents peace. On Christmas Eve the white center candle or the “Christ Candle” will be
lit and represents the life of Christ that has come into the world.
In this manner, Christian families keep Christ at the center of
Christmas and parents can emphasize to their children the true
meaning of Christmas.

PREPARATION FOR CHRISTMAS
The traditional nine-day Novena to the Infant of Jesus
which began on December 16th continues on the weekend as
well as after 6:30am daily mass. We will recite abbreviated
prayer to fulfill this requirement.
Reconciliation Service - please join us on Monday, Dec.,
19th for confession at our Basilica at 6:00pm as confession is
an essential part in the preparation for Christmas. Please encourage your family members, especially our youth to take advantage of this special opportunity. Visiting clergy will be on
hand for your convenience.
Christmas Vigil Dinner-oplatek or Christmas Wafer has
become an essential part of the Christmas Vigil Dinner in the
majority of European families, especially in Poland, Germany
and also widely practiced in the United States.
Although the oplatek has been shared by many for centuries,
it has a particular meaning for a given family, because family
relationships are often different. Therefore, we share the
oplatek, by beginning with a prayer, say a few words of apology, if needed, to your loved one’s, words of gratitude in appreciation and express your good wishes. The sacredness of
Christmas Eve demands honesty and sincerity of heart. Therefore, as we approach the family dinner table we have to be reconciled with God and one another.
Oplatki are available in the sacristy. A donation of $3 per
packet is appreciated.
Christmas Appreciation - Christmas is associated with
Divine Worship on Sunday and the gathering of families. St.
Joseph School is also an extended family of students who
spend five days a week together in a learning environment.
It is fitting that on Wednesday, December 21st all students,
faculty and school and rectory staff will gather to share the
Christmas Wafer, enjoy a free of charge delicious dinner and
anticipate the joy of Christmas with the visit of St. Nicholas and
the singing of Christmas Carols. It will be a unique day that
provides joy and enthusiasm, especially to the children to learn
the meaning of this special day.
On Thursday, December 22nd, with an early release for students, all faculty are invited to the rectory to enjoy a Christmas
buffet. Our faculty deserve our gratitude and free time apart
from their daily routine with the students. - Msgr. Czarnecki
2017 Calendars - we thank the Sitkowski and Malboeuf Funeral home for once again providing us with informative and
beautifully designed English Calendars “ Jesus Walks Among
Us” and Polish Calendars “Jezus Jest Wsród Nas”. These calendars indicate Holy Days and Saints’ Feast days and is a must
to be displayed in every home. They are available in the sacristy and the rectory and we appreciate your kind donation
which will be used toward Hospitality Committee activities.
Christmas CD’s - to fill your homes with favorite Christmas
Carols and Kolędy we have CD’s of the Children’s Choir and
Basilica Choir available in the sacristy and the rectory. The cost
is only $10 each, but listening to these beautiful melodies is
priceless.
CHRISTMAS SCHOOL CHILDRENS‘ COLLECTION
Christmas is associated with children, perhaps because the
Savior of the World came as a Baby. The Advent Season in St.
Joseph School is filled with Christmas catechesis and
anticipation of Christmas Day. Participation in the Christmas
Show, St. Nicholas Day, the Christmas Dinner for all the
children and rehearsals after school for the Christmas liturgy
creates a climate of wonder and joy. Children learn, acquire the
habits and develop their faith through a variety of programs and
extra-curricular activities at St. Joseph School.
The demands of time require that we have to keep up with
the latest achievements of educational technology, provide
services and help the teachers in their professional
development. All of this is necessary and very costly. In this
season of sharing and giving, we kindly ask parishioners,
friends and alumni to open their hearts and wallets to help
educate the next generation of leaders at St. Joseph School.
We ask that next Sunday, December 25th you place your
Sunday and Christmas envelopes into the first collection and
your St. Joseph School Assistance Offering into the second
collection.

CONGRATULATIONS– to our St. Joseph School Students for their fantastic presentation of “Camel Lot”. Their
enthusiasm and exuberance spread throughout the audience as
they opened the town’s Christmas Season with their wonderful
show. The auditorium was filled to capacity with parents,
grandparents and parishioners. The Christmas show of SJS has
become an event which has grown in meaning and quality to
enhance the Christmas Spirit. The children showed discipline,
routine and their artistic ability of acting. All of this is part of
the quality of education at SJS.
Thank you to all the actors and actresses, Director Kelly
Bailey, our school administration, parents, the back stage crew
and everyone who helped in any way.

NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH

Dec., 21st at 7:00pm for our weekly Devotion and Novena to
our Patron. During this Fourth Week of Advent we have the
opportunity to ask for God’s graces to deepen our spiritual life
through the intercession of St. Joseph.

St. Vincent de Paul Message: In today’s Gospel, we hear
that Jesus will be name Emmanuel, which means “God is with
us.” The mystery of the birth of Jesus is supremely a mystery
of love. May each Christmas find us more and more like him,
more humble, more holy, more happy and more full of God.
In the month of December, through your gifts, the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul was able to help the poor and suffering to
face their hardship and fears by assisting families by providing
financial assistance for food, utility and rent bills.

wszystkich, którzy Go szczerze szukają.

ŚWIECA ADWENTOWA
W czwartą niedzielę Adwentu zapalamy ostatnią fioletową
świecę na wieńcu adwentowym, którą nazywamy tradycyjnie
Świecą Anielską. Symbolizuje ona pokój. Centralną świecę we
wieńcu adwentowym, której biały kolor symbolizuje Chrystusa,
przychodzącego na świat, zapalimy w wieczór wigilijny. Jej
fizyczne ułożenie na wieńcu symbolizuje również centralne
miejsce, jakie Jezus zajmuje w obchodach Świąt Bożego
Narodzenia, jak również w całym naszym życiu.
SKAUCI
Skauci zapraszają dziś na doroczne śniadanie, które odbędzie się
w szkolnej kafeterii od godz. 10:00 do 12:00. Wstęp $7 od osoby.

DEKORACJE ŚWIĄTECZNE

SPOWIEDŹ ADWENTOWA
Spowiedź Adwentowa dla naszych parafian odbędzie się w
poniedziałek, 19 grudnia o godz. 18:00. W konfesjonałach
posługiwać będą zaproszeni księża z innych parafii. Serdecznie
zachęcamy do skorzystania z sakramentu pokuty i przygotowania
się w ten sposób na nadchodzące święta.
Przypominamy, że w naszej parafii spowiedź odbywa się w każdą
sobotę po Mszy św. o godz. 7:00 oraz o godz. 15:00. Istnieje
również możliwość umówienia się na indywidualną spowiedź.
Osoby, które nie mogą dotrzeć na spowiedź z powodu wieku lub
choroby prosimy o kontakt z biurem parafialnym i umówienie
indywidualnej wizyty w domu.
ZBIÓRKA NA SZKOŁĘ
Bardzo cieszy nas fakt, że w naszej szkole znacząco wzrosła
liczba uczniów. Wiąże się to jednak ze sporą odpowiedzialnością
za jakość zapewnianej edukacji. Koniecznym było zatrudnienie
nowych nauczycieli i innych pracowników, a także zakupienie
podręczników i pomocy naukowych.
W okresie świątecznym, w którym szczególną rolę odgrywa
wzajemne obdarowywanie, zwracamy się do parafian, gości jak
i do absolwentów naszej szkoły do otwartości serca i wsparcia
młodszego pokolenia, które dziś kształtuje swoje umysły i serca w
Szkole św. Józefa. Zbiórka odbędzie się w Dzień Bożego
Narodzenia.
WIGILIJNY OPŁATEK
Wigilijny opłatek stał się stałym elementem naszej Polskiej
kultury, wszyscy wiemy do czego służy. Czasami możemy się
dziwić, dlaczego w innych krajach ludzie nie łamią się opłatkiem.
Tradycja wigilijnego opłatka ma swoje dwa źródła. Pierwszym z
nich jest nawiązanie do starochrześcijańskiej tradycji. Chrześcijanie
pierwszych wieków przynosili na eucharystię między innymi chleb.
Po skończonej agapie chleb ten rozdzielano potrzebującym. Jednak
część chleba zabierano z powrotem i dzielono się nim z tymi,
którzy na spotkanie wspólnoty nie mogli przyjść. W ten sposób
wyrażano wzajemną łączność wspólnoty z nimi. Był to znak
wzajemnej miłości i pamięci.
Drugim źródłem tradycji wigilijnego opłatka są wydarzenia z
historii Polski. Kiedy nasz kraj przestał istnieć. Nasi przodkowie
chcieli zachować jedność mimo, że mieszkali w różnych krajach,
dlatego zaczęli posyłać w listach chleb. Niemożliwym było
posyłanie normalnego chleba. Wymyślono więc opłatek, który
można włożyć do koperty. Opłatek pieczony jest tak samo, jak
hostia używana przez kapłana w czasie Mszy św.. Łamanie się
opłatkiem nawiązuje więc także do Mszy św., która jest
uobecnieniem Chrystusa miłującego swój lud. Podobnie
łamanie opłatka i składanie sobie życzeńjest wyrazem naszej
jedności i miłości. W czasie tej czynności ludzie nie tylko składają
życzenia, ale także przepraszają siebie nawzajem za złe
postępowanie, a także dziękują za dobro, jakie otrzymali. Tradycja
wigilijnego opłatka uzmysławia nam jak bardzo zwyczaje panujące

Tegoroczne motywy w kalendarzu nawiązują do tematu: „Jezus jest
pośród nas”. Kalendarze znajdują się w zakrystii i w biurze
parafialnym. Dochód z ich sprzedaży zostanie przeznaczony na
działalność Hospitality Committee.
PŁYTY Z KOLĘDAMI
W biurze parafialnym i w zakrystii można nabyć płyty z kolędami
nagrane przez nasz chór parafialny i przez chór dziecięcy
Bazyliszki. Zachęcamy do ubogacenia atmosfery świątecznej w
