Stewardship Note. Each year at tax time, we conscientiously give
“to Caesar what belongs to Caesar.” Does my stewardship indicate
that I am as faithful about giving “to God what belongs to God”?
Word of life. A primary task for the pro-life movement is to draw
society into deeper reflection about the mystery, wonder and value
of human life. We need to promote an alternative to the
technological outlook which seeks to control and manipulate birth
and death, to reduce nature to “matter”, to elevate having over
being, to depersonalize the body and sexuality, and to replace the
criterion of personal dignity with the criterion of efficiency,
functionality and usefulness. Our task is to call our brother and
sisters; hears and minds to wonder and awe.
TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what
belongs to God.” –Matthew 22:21
IN GOD ALONE
Isaiah speaks to us today of Cyrus, King of Persia, anointed by
the Lord. God calls Cyrus by name and leads him in service to the
Israelites. In this passage we hear that it is the Lord who gives
Cyrus his title, who arms him against his enemies, and who opens
doors and unbars gates before him. And God does all of this so
that the people will know that “I am the Lord,” and that “there is
none besides me” (Isaiah 45:6).
Paul opens his letter with essentially the same notion–that in God
alone we find our grace and peace. Paul also gives thanks to God
on our behalf, calling to mind our work of faith, hope, and love.
And in the familiar Gospel reading, Jesus tells the Pharisees to give
to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.
The second collection this weekend is the Annual collection for
the Propagation of the Faith
JUBILEE YEAR–COMING HOME
Pope John Paul II said, “That a jubilee celebration should
confirm Christians in their faith in God who has revealed himself
in Christ”. He continued to explain this statement by saying that
most important realities in life of faith can be summed up in three
words: to believe, to love and to forgive. These words are a very
appropriate motto for Saint Joseph Basilica parishioners on the
threshold of our Jubilee Year.
We inaugurated the Jubilee Year by serving the community and
by providing a free dinner by the Knights of Columbus, a free
breakfast by the Sacred Heart Society and an extraordinary gift of
a statue of Blessed John Paul II to our parish community by
devoted parishioners Theodore and Helen Dawicki. All these noble
actions are indeed a sign of faith on the part of many of our
parishioners who dedicated their time and resources to serve others.
Various pastoral programs, social and cultural events are
scheduled for our benefit in the upcoming months. Our
participation will indicate our faith and commitment to the Church
of Jesus Christ. The focus of the Jubilee for all our parishioners are
the simple words, “Come Home”. Any time we make a right
decision, perform a good deed, participate in divine worship, make
genuine choices we are coming home.
Would you influence or help someone to make the right
decision, or a person who left the church, to come home and
become a
faithful disciple of Christ.
Jubilee Fund-Allow me to express my sincere gratitude to all
of you who contributed to the 125th Jubilee Anniversary Fund.
During the month of September we collected $15,706, which
includes $2,500 each from Saint Anne Sodality and Sacred Heart
Society. Several parishioners have already donated $1,000. A lot
of work has been completed, especially in front of the Church, yet
much remains to be done at the entrance to the Basilica. Our
immediate concern is the heating unit which is in poor condition
and needs frequent repairs. If we have enough money we will
replace it, if not we will continue to repair it (at a

cost of about $400 per service call). I know that we all are going
through tough economic times, but we are appealing to those who
have financial means to extend a helping hand to the parish in this
time of need. Thank you and God Bless You!
Reminder: The Holy Rosary Sodality is sponsoring the
Living Rosary on Sunday, Oct. 16th. Please come and join us in
praying the rosary at 3:00pm in church. Following the devotion
come and enjoy a light supper buffet in the school hall.
October Rosary Devotions will be held on Wednesday and
Friday at 6:30pm and on Sunday after 11:00am Mass. On Wed.
evening Rosary devotion is combined with a Novena to St. Joseph.
We also want remind parishioners there is Novena Masses to St.
Joseph on Wednesday’s at 6:30am.

IN MEMORIUM
Sister Sophia Wanda M. Stapor (S.M. Ligouria) died Sept.
30th at the age of 96 in the Holy Family Infirmary at the Provincial
House of the Felician Sisters. She joined the Felician community
in 1928 and was principal and taught in schools in New England
and eastern New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Oct. 3rd and
commendation followed in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Enfield. Sister
Sophia is survived by her sister, Jessie Lemanski and an extended
family of nieces and nephews. On Sunday, Nov. 20th, we will
remember Sr. Sophia with a Mass at 9:30AM for the repose of her
soul.
CEMETERY PROCESSION
The annual cemetery procession will take place on Sunday, Oct.
30th at 2:00pm. We kindly request that all organizations with their
banners and appropriate medals meet at the cross for the devotion.
Please notify out of town family members to join us.
Vigil Lights -Flowers and special votive lights are an expression
of our love for our departed loved ones. It is customary to place a
vigil light at the grave of family members. Special lights designed
for this occasion were obtained from Hartford and may be
purchased prior to the procession and be placed on the graves at St.
Joseph Garden of Peace. For those people whose loved ones are
buried at different cemeteries or other countries they could set a
votive light at the foot of the cross in the clergy section. Let our
presence in the procession, our prayer and placing a light be an
expression of our remembrance.
Wypominki–All Souls Day Intentions--All Souls Day with its
devotional and liturgical practices brings the reality of life eternal
into our consciousness. The prayer at the cemetery and the Mass
on All Souls Day, as well as fifty Masses throughout the year, are
for the repose of the souls mentioned in the Wypominki envelopes.
The names you submit in the envelopes will be read during All
Souls Day Masses. We kindly ask that you print the names clearly
and return the envelopes with your offering before Oct. 30th.
CASH CALENDARS
You still have time to purchase your Cash Calendars for the
month of November. Dottie Kasierski or Patty Parslow will be at
the entrances to the Basilica after masses or contact your favorite
calendar seller.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
The Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Basilica Council #12980
would like to thank everyone who supported their September 50/50
raffle. The September winner of $855 is Warren Rekowski.
Congratulations!
Do you get the same feeling the Knights of Columbus do when
they help others? In 2010, parishioners’ donations made it possible
to purchase 178 Thanksgiving Turkeys and other food items for
local families in need. With the help of Price Chopper, we
continue to care for the children of St. Joseph School, parishioners
and our local community. This current year has also been difficult
for those in need, so we will be collecting money to purchase
turkeys and food items the weekend of Nov. 12th and 13th at the
exits of the church. Please help us, help those in need. May God
bless you and your families during the upcoming Holiday season.

16 païdziernika 2011
„Oddajcie wi“c Cezarowi to, co naleóy do Cezara, a Bogu to, co naleóy do
Boga.” (Mt 22, 21)
Jedynie w Bogu.
umocni»o go w walce z wrogami i otwiera przed nim bramy.
