Stewardship Note: In the Gospel today, the owner of the vineyard sent messengers to collect his share of the harvest from the tenant farmers, but there was not a single good steward on the property! God is the owner, we are the tenants. What sort of stewards are we? TWENTY SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME October 5, 2014 Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. - Philippians 4:6 SANCTUARY VOTIVE CANDLES For the week of October 5 through October 11 SACRED HEART ALTAR- Candle I In memory of Rose Neslusan Given by Gladys Dowgiewicz and Theresa Jankowski IN THE VINEYARD As usual, today’s first and third scripture readings are obviously related, with the second continuing one of Paul’s Letters—these days, the Letter to the Philippians. The vineyard stories from Isaiah and Matthew both talk about evildoers, coming to a bad end. In Isaiah, it’s the vineyard itself that produces “wild grapes” instead of the crop the owner dreamed of and worked for. So it will be “trampled” and “overgrown with thorns”. In Matthew, those to whom the owner leased the vineyard destroy the dream. So the owner “will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants. Yes, if we reject divine love we come to a bad end. And with all this talk of the unfaithful being trampled and thrown out, it’s consoling to hear Paul’s message to the Philippians who were by no means perfect. “Have no anxiety at all,” Paul said. “Then the God of peace will be with you”. The second collection this weekend is for Parish Obligations to the diocese. Next weekend, October 11-12th, the second collection is designated for Higher Energy and Utility Costs. SPECIAL REMEMBRANCES Today, Sunday October 5 we celebrate the 17th Anniversary of St. Joseph Church’s Consecration of Church and Altar. MEGA RAFFLE TICKETS HAVE BEEN MAILED TO PARISHIONERS Page 3 FALL CATHOLIC SCHOOL APPEAL We are grateful for your prayers, your support and generous donations last week to the Fall Catholic School Appeal. In these dire times we need young people properly formed by Christian values for the stability of the family and society. The Catholic schools provide the foundation for personal fulfillment and successful careers. Everyone is obligated to help with the education of our young people. If you did not as yet respond to this appeal, you can take advantage of this opportunity this weekend. NOVENA TO THE DIVINE MERCY Sunday, October 5th has been set aside for special devotions to the Divine Mercy. At 3:00pm we will pray the chaplet to the Divine Mercy, spend some time in meditation and conclude the service with Benediction. Please make a special effort to join us. OCTOBER ROSARY DEVOTIONS October in the history of the Catholic Church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. These simple and yet profound prayers, so popular in the world, provides us the opportunity to reflect on our life and obtain needed graces through the powerful intercession of Our Blessed Mother. Devotions will be held on Mon. — Fri. at 7:00pm and on Sundays after 11:00am Mass. We invite parishioners and friends to come to Church to pray to God for your intentions and those of your family during Oct. NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH Please join us together with members of the Holy Rosary Sodality for the Novena and Devotion to our Patron, St. Joseph on Wednesday, October 8th at 7:00pm. There are no words spoken by St. Joseph recorded in the Gospels. But in the words of Saint John Paul II, “the silence of Joseph has its own special eloquence, for thanks to that silence we can understand the truth of the Gospel’s judgment that he was ‘a just man”’. Fathers play a critical role in the stability of families and Jesus’ earthly father, Joseph, was no exception. May our family life experience an authentic renewal as we meet our own challenges through the intercession of St. Joseph. We ask that you print your intentions on the petition forms to be read during the Novena. SAINT JOSEPH SCHOOL Save your bottles and cans - as our school students are holding a bottle and can drive during the month of October. Albo do niewdzięcznych i przewrotnych rolników, lekceważących swego Pana. Z wdzięcznością przyjmijmy dziś Chrystusa, który przychodzi do nas, aby nas odnowić i nakarmić swoim słowem i Ciałem. Page 5 Dzisiejsza druga kolekta będzie przeznaczona na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne. Druga kolekta w przyszłym tygodniu będzie przeznaczona na pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii. PRZYPOMNIENIE Uczniowie naszej szkoły dzisiaj wezmą udział w rajdzie rowerowym zorganizowanym dla wsparcia budowy nowego Emergency Dept. w Harington Hospital w Webster. Startujemy o godz. 13:00 z parkingu szkolnego. KORONKA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO Dzisiejsza niedziela, jako pierwsza niedziela miesiąca, jest szczególnie poświęcona Bożemu Miłosierdziu. O godz. NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA Dołącz do nas wraz z członkami Holy Rosary Sodality w czasie Nowenny do naszego Patrona, św. Józefa w środę, 8 października o godz. 19:00. 14:00. Niech nasza obecność w procesji i modlitwy będą wyrazem naszej wiary w życie wieczne i nadzieję zmartwychwstania.
