INCREASE OUR FAITH
Today’s Gospel passage falls under the category that has come to be known as the “hard
sayings” of Jesus. Hard to understand, hard to
apply to life today. The Apostles’ request,
“increase our faith,” is in response to a previous
“hard saying” about how frequently we are
called upon to forgive others. Curiously, Jesus
seems rather unforgiving in responding to their request, or in
describing the manner in which they are to serve others.
Jesus uses exaggerations to wake us up to how God is present in our lives, and how we are urged to live if God is with
us. None of us is called upon to uproot trees or cast mountains
into the sea. The faith we have is adequate for the task we are
called upon to do: spread the gospel by our witness. And living that witness is done not for self-gratification or recognition,
but out of the joy of helping the world to hear the Good News.
The second collection this week is for Diocesan Obligations.
Next weekend’s second collection is designated for
Higher Utility and Energy Costs.
GREAT NEWS FOR ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL
The chronicles of St. Joseph School, will note October 5th
2013 as a historical day. On that day “The Rock of St. Peter”
was blessed and will be placed into the wall of our new gym.
Jesus is the cornerstone of the Church which is built on “The
Rock of St. Peter”. It has been a tradition during construction
of ecclesiastical buildings to place “The Rock” from the Vatican into the foundations. The Catholic school is an extension of
the mission of the Church and forms the minds and hearts of
our students.
May this new gym/parish center serve our community of faith
for generations to come.
We welcome Bishop Robert J. McManus as celebrant and
Archbishop Zygmunt Zimowski, who brought “The Rock of St.
Peter” from the Vatican, as homilist at our 4:00pm Family Mass
on Saturday, October 5th.
ROSARY DEVOTIONS
The Rosary is a biblical and evangelical prayer and is a contemplation of the mystery of the history of our salvation. We encourage
all the faithful to pray the rosary during this month in their homes or at our church.

DIVINE MERCY
This Sunday, October 6th at 3:00pm the devotions to the
Divine Mercy will be prayed. We kindly ask you to come and
pray for needed graces in your life or that of your loved ones. It
was revealed to Sr. Faustina that: At Three o-clock implore my
mercy especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment,
immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This hour of great mercy for the
whole world. . . In this hour I will refuse nothing to the soul that
makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion.
125th ANNIVERSARY BOOK
The 125th Anniversary Book will be available at $30 per
copy in a couple of weeks. This book depicts many highlights,
activities and achievements of our generation and should have a
prominent place in every household. If you have pre-ordered
your copy (check list at entrances to Basilica) you may forward
your check made payable to St. Joseph Basilica to the rectory.

Except for the Blessed Virgin, who can plead with Jesus
more effectually than St. Joseph? For if Jesus was obedient to
Him during His earthly life, will He not now delight to hearken
with a special readiness to St. Joseph’s pleadings on behalf of
those who have recourse to him? Inexpressibly great, therefore,
is St. Joseph’s power of intercession in Heaven; inexpressibly
great is also his love for us, his charges here on earth. For this
reason let us place boundless confidence in him in all the needs
of life and join us at our Basilica on Wednesday, October 9th at
7:00pm for Novena and Devotion to Saint Joseph.
Members of the St. Anne Society will carry the statue of St.
Joseph from Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to the sanctuary.

Our Lady of Fatima Devotion and candlelight procession will
take place on Sunday, October 13th at 7:00pm. We invite all
parishioners, parish organizations, altar servers, Children of
Mary and school children to join us. This will be the final candlelight procession of the year.
125TH ANNIVERSARY PILGRIMAGE TO POLAND
If you are interested in joining us for the Pilgrimage to Poland planned for June 24—July 5, 2014 you should attend an
orientation meeting to be held in the school cafeteria on Thursday, October 24th at 6:30pm. Representatives of the travel
agency will be on hand to assist you with registration and answer any of your questions.
EXCHANGE STUDENTS FROM POLAND
We welcome nine students from Poland who arrived on
Thursday and will join our St. Joseph School students’ classes
until December.
I am grateful to parishioners and friends who have graciously
opened their homes and hearts to these students.
HSA POLISH FOOD SALE
Next weekend Oct. 12-13 the Home School Association will
sponsor a kapusta, kielbasa, and pierogi sale. A tent will be set
up outside of the Basilica for your convenience.

The Parish Council will be sponsoring a LOTTERY
SCRATCH TICKET RAFFLE. Tickets will be $10 each
featuring the 1st prize - a book of 100 $10 MA lottery scratch

3rd prize - a book of 300 $1 MA lottery scratch tickets; plus

Gather us in 2013 Women’s Conference - All women and
guests are invited to join with women around the diocese on
November 2 at the DCU Center, 50 Foster Street, Worcester in
this daylong event featuring presentations and works on
women’s maturing spirituality. Sponsored by the diocesan
Commission for Women it will feature keynote speakers ValLimar Jansen, and Teresa Tomeo. Workshop sessions will provide additional opportunities to expand spiritual awareness and
growth. The day will close with Mass celebrated by Bishop
McManus. Registration is $50 which includes lunch. Flyers
with more information are placed at entrances to the Basilica.
YOUTH GROUP
October 19-20th - YG Homeless Awareness Weekend Sat. from 4:00pm—Sun., 8:00am. This overnight event is for
Jr. & Sr. YG (6th-12th) members. Young YG (3rd-5th) members are invited to attend Sat., 4:00-7:00pm.
Come be a seed for change in our world! We will spend a
night outside in cardboard shelters we construct from materials
we “scavenge”. We will do activities, play games and learn
more about poverty and homelessness in our country.
October 23rd - 6:15-7:30pm Wii Bowling at Christopher
Heights. Come join the Wii Bowling Team as we take on the
CH Team for a friendly and competitive game of Wii Bowling,
followed by social time in “the pub”.

ROLA WIARY
Kiedy Apostołowie prosili Chrystusa:
„Przymnóż nam wiary”, to prawdopodobnie nie
wiedzieli, o co prosili. I to chyba chciał im
uświadomić Jezus – jak wielką moc mogą
otrzymać do swej dyspozycji. Oczywiście, siła
ta w żadnym wypadku nie powinna służyć
popisywaniu się sztuczkami typu: „Morwo,
przesadź się w morze”. Chrystus to nie David Coperfield: nie
chce nas zabawiać, lecz zbawiać. I tak samo Kościół: nie jest
instytucją rozrywkową ani magiczną pałeczką, lecz
środowiskiem życia duchowego i drogą do Boga.

W BAZYLICE ŚW. JÓZEFA
Witamy serdecznie biskupa Roberta McManus jako celebransa na
Mszy św. o godz. 16:00 i abp. Zigmunt Zimowskiego, który przywiózł
"Skałę Świętego Piotra" z Watykanu, jako kaznodzieję w czasie
celebracji poświęcenia kamienia węgielnego pod nową salę
gimnastyczną w sobotę, 5 października.
Po Mszy zbieramy się na terenie szkoły na krótkie
błogosławieństwo kamienia wegielnego, który będzie wbudowany w
ścianę nowej sali gimnastycznej.
UCZNIOWIE Z POLSKI
W ubiegły czwartek przybyło do nas dziewięcioro uczniów
z Polski, którzy będą uczęszczali na zajęcie w naszej szkole przez
następne sześć tygodni. Witamy ich bardzo serdecznie. Jednocześnie
dziękujemy parafianom, którzy ofiarowali im swoją gościnę na czas
pobytu.
HSA POLISH FOOD SALE
W następny weekend 12-13 października Home School Association
organizuje sprzedaż kapusty, kiełbasy i pierogów. Specjalnie na tę

KORONAKA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
W pierwszą niedzielę miesiąca modlimy się do Miłosierdzia Bożego
o łaski szczególne, jak również i te, których potrzebujemy w naszym
życiu codziennym. Serdecznie zapraszamy, aby dołączyć do nas
o godz. 15:00 w czasie odmawiania Koronki do Miłosierdzia Bożego,
która zakończy się błogosławieństwem Najświętszym Sakramentem.
Jezus mówił do s. Faustyny, żeby "o godzinie trzeciej błagać
mojego miłosierdzia szczególnie dla grzeszników, i choć przez krótki
moment, zanurzyć się w Mojej męce, szczególnie w Moim
opuszczeniu w chwili konania. To jest godzina wielkiego miłosierdzia
dla świata całego. . . W godzinie tej nie odmówię duszy niczego, która
prosi mnie za przyczyną mojej bolesnej męki."
RELIGIA
Zajęcia katechetyczne odbywają się w każdy poniedziałek, od
17:30 do 16:30.
Bierzmowanie - Najbliższe spotkanie odbędzie się w poniedziałek w
godz. od 17:30 do18:30 w kościele. Kandydaci do bierzmowania biorą
udział w nabożeństwie "Żywego Różańca" wraz z innymi dziećmi
uczęszczającymi na katechizację. Wszyscy, którzy chcą w tym roku
przystąpić do Sakramentu Bierzmowania, bez względu na to, czy
uczęszczają do szkoły publicznej czy prywatnej, muszą uczestniczyć w
tych zajęciach.
NOWENNA I NABOŻEŃSTWO DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
Poza Najświętszą Maryją Panną, któż może wstawiać się do Jezusa
bardziej skutecznie niż św. Józef? Jezus był mu posłuszny podczas
swego ziemskiego życia, czyż zatem teraz nie będzie On wsłuchiwać
się w prośby św. Józefa kierowane w imieniu tych, którzy zwracają się
do niego? Niewypowiedzianie wspaniała, jest więc moc
wstawiennictwa św. Józefa w Niebie; niewymownie wielka jest jego
miłość do nas. Z tego powodu złóżmy bezgraniczną wiarę w niego we
wszystkich naszych życiowych sprawach i dołączmy do Nowenny
i nabożeństwa do św. Józefa nas w naszej Bazylice w środę,
9 października o 19:00.
Figurę św. Józefa będą nieśli z kaplicy Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej
do prezbiterium członkowie St. Ann Society. Jesteśmy wdzięczni za
prośby o modlitwy i ofiary składane w skrzynce znajdującej się przy
figurze św. Józefa w kaplicy Matki Bożej. Msza św. połączona
z Nowenną jest odprawiana we w tych intencjach. Prośby o modlitwę
prosimy pisać czytelnie, drukowanymi literami.
KSIĘGA JUBILEUSZOWA
Księga Jubileuszowa, wydawana z okazji 125 rocznicy założenia
naszej parafii, będzie dostępna w ciągu kilku tygodni w cenie 30
dolarów za sztukę. Ci, którzy złożyli już wcześniej zamówienia na
swój egzemplarz (prosimy sprawdzić listę w wejściach do Bazyliki)
mogą już przekazać czek na plebanię wystawiony na Bazylikę św.
Józefa.
Tych, którzy teraz chcą złożyć zamówienie prosimy o wypełnienie
formularza zamówienia (dostępny w wejściach do Bazyliki) i
przyniesienie go na plebanię wraz z wypełnionym czekiem.
NABOŻEŃSTWO FATIMSKIE
Nabożeństwo ku czci Matki Bożej Fatimskiej wraz z procesją ze
świecami na zewnątrz bazyliki odbędzie się w niedzielę,
13 października o godz.19:00. Zapraszamy wszystkich parafian,
organizacje parafialne, ministrantów, dzieci Maryi i uczniów, aby
dołączyli do nas w czasie tej celebracji. Będzie to już ostatnie
Nabożeństwo Fatimskie w tym roku.
PIELGRZYMKA JUBILEUSZOWA DO POLSKI
Zainteresowanych uczestnictwem w jubileuszowej pielgrzymce do
Polski zaplanowanej na czas od 24 czerwca 24 do 5 lipca 2014,

PAŹDZIERNIK MIESIĄCEM RÓŻAŃCA
W dzisiejszych czasach, różaniec zaczyna kojarzyć się z modlitwą,
która pozostaje domeną starszych osób. Niestety – trzeba przyznać, że
coraz mniej ludzi odmawia tą piękną, tradycyjną modlitwę. Z drugiej
strony jednak możemy zauważyć, że Różaniec wciąż jest żywy w
Kościele! Przecież w każdej parafii istnieją tzw. róże różańcowe, gdzie
grupa ludzi jednoczy się, odmawiając codziennie określoną tajemnicę i
wypraszając szczególne łaski dla całej wspólnoty. Dla dzieci są
tworzone podwórkowe kółka różańcowe. Rozważając tajemnice życia
Jezusa i Maryi, człowiek ubogaca swoją duchowość. Różaniec jest
modlitwą szczególną, która naprawdę może zdziałać cuda! Modlitwa
różańcowa była szczególnie bliska papieżowi Janowi Pawłowi II.
Poświęcił jej cały jeden list apostolski – „Rosarium Virginis Mariae.”
Kiedyś nasz wielki rodak powiedział: „Jeśli pragniecie przez kilka
chwil być bliscy sercu Papieża, łączmy się w modlitwie różańcowej, w
której polecam was wszystkich Maryi Pannie; pragnąłbym, byście wy
również mnie polecali Jej w ten sposób." Papież Pius IX zapytany, jaki
jest największy skarb Kościoła, wyciągnął z kieszeni różaniec i
powiedział: „Oto jest największy skarb Kościoła!”
Jednym z najbardziej znanych cudów modlitwy różańcowej jest cud
w Hiroszimie. Na kilka miesięcy przed zrzuceniem bomby atomowej
przez lotnictwo USA w mieście tym pojawiło się dwóch mężczyzn,
głoszących konieczność nawrócenia, gdyż zbliża się nieuchronna
katastrofa. Mówili także o konieczności codziennego odmawiania
różańca. Po ataku nuklearnym okazało się, że w mieście pozostały
nietknięte 2 budynki (wszystko inne było całkowicie zniszczone), w
których przeżyli ludzie. Mówili oni, że w nocy przed atakiem ukazał
im się Anioł i zaprowadził ich do domów rodzin, które posłuchały
wezwania Maryi do odmawiania różańca. Innym przykładem jest
rewolucja na Filipinach. W latach 80’ dyktator F. Marcom rozpoczął
masowe aresztowania. Część ludzi zbuntowała się i wyszła na ulice
właśnie z różańcami w ręku. Po kilku dniach dyktator wysłał wojsko,
aby poskromić tłum. Czołgi jednak zatrzymały się, a sami żołnierze
przyłączyli się do wspólnej modlitwy. W ten sposób w dniach 22-25
lutego 1986r. doszło do bezkrwawej rewolucji w stolicy Filipin Manili
i obalenia dyktatora.
Tradycyjnie to właśnie październik jest miesiącem w szczególny
sposób poświęconym modlitwie różańcowej. W każdej parafii są
wtedy organizowane nabożeństwa różańcowe. Gorąco zachęcam
wszystkich parafian, ministrantów i lektorów, do włączenia się w
modlitwę różańcową we wspólnocie parafialnej i podtrzymywania tej
pięknej tradycji, jaką są październikowe nabożeństwa różańcowe.
W naszej parafii spotykamy sie o godz. 19:00 od poniedziałku do
piątku. W ten poniedziałek różaniec wyjątkowo o godz. 17:30.
