Stewardship Note: “I will be their God and they shall be my
people.” What does it mean to be God’s people? It means we
recognize that everything we have and everything we are
belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are
merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given us. It means we
are willing to use our gifts and our lives to care for our
neighbors and the world, just as God cares for us.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT
March 22, 2015
I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts;
I will be their God and they shall be my people.
-Jeremiah 31:33
THE NEW COVENANT
When the prophet Jeremiah coined the
term “new covenant” he was actually
doing something quite radical. For the
Jewish people, there was only one covenant, the one made between the Lord God and Israel through
Moses at Mount Sinai. For Jeremiah to suggest that God would
somehow supersede the covenant with a new one would have
sounded audacious to Jewish ears. But in this way he is a
predecessor of Jesus who, in the Gospel of John is continually
portrayed as superseding the past, establishing the reign of God
in a new way. Ant in today’s Gospel passage, Jesus the “new
covenant” speaks the language of his “new commandment” of
love when he tells of the dying grain of wheat and of our own
need to die to self in order to be raised with Christ. As Lent
ends and we prepare to enter into Holy Week, the dying grain
of wheat serves as an excellent symbol of the kind of dying and
self-sacrifice to which disciples are called, a symbol of that
new covenant written deep within our hearts.
SAINT JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’ CLUB
On Sunday, March 22nd we welcome members of our St.
Joseph Polish Women’s Club to the 8:15am Liturgy. Following
Mass members will meet at the Lodge Restaurant for breakfast.
This organization was established more than 60 years ago to
support our school, faculty and the Felician Sisters to foster the
education of our students. They provide scholarships for children whose mothers are in good standing. May God bless the
Executive Board and all the members.
Reminder: If you have not as yet subscribed or renewed your
Catholic Free Press, please do so this week. Thank You!
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
During the past two weeks many of our parishioners extended
their generosity to the “Faith in Action” 2015 Partners in Charity Appeal and so far we have collected $8502. Thank You! If
you have not as yet made a pledge or returned your yellow
packet envelope, please do so as soon as possible. Your support enables us to serve thousands of families and individuals
in Worcester County with outreach, formation, evangelization
and worship.
REMINDER: Penitential Service (once called confession) in
preparation for Easter will be held on Monday, March 30th
at 6:00pm at our Basilica. We ask our parishioners to take

PILGRIMAGE THANK YOU
Last Sunday, we hosted a large entourage of Pilgrims from
Holy Cross Church, New Britain and St. Stanislaus, Bristol, CT
on their annual journey to St. Joseph’s. They spent most of the
day at our Basilica in devotion and prayers. We were impressed by their piety, participation in Adoration, Stations of
the Cross, Chaplet to the Divine Mercy, ending with Gorzkie
Zale. They offered Novena prayers in their particular intentions
to God through the intercession of St. Joseph.
We are most grateful to the young ladies from the Polish
Saturday School and the Choir who prepared and served an
appetizing lunch for our guests in the school cafeteria. We recognize the donation of time and effort of Henry Kulma, Ewa
Mamro, Ola Gronek, Jolanta Podskarbi, Marzena and Sara Kolinski, Adam and Bernadetta Rogalski. We are also grateful to
parishioners who provided a wide array of delectable pastries.
God bless all of our dedicated parish volunteers!

NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
Every Wednesday evening at 7:00pm we invite parishioners
and friends who seek Divine assistance in their personal and
family life through the intercession of St. Joseph to join us for
the Novena prayer. Daily graces that we receive are obvious
proof that God cares for our well being.
As we begin the Fifth Week of Lent this is an opportune time
to participate in this special Novena/Devotion/Mass asking for
our Patron’s assistance.
On March 25th, members of our Parish Council will carry the
St. Joseph Statue into the sanctuary. Please submit your personal petitions to be read during the devotion. Offerings are
accepted.
PALM SUNDAY
With Palm Sunday, (March 29th) we are entering Holy Week
when we reflect on the passion of Jesus Christ which leads to
the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
On Palm Sunday we commemorate the Lord’s entrance into
Jerusalem. A solemn procession with palms will take place at
our Basilica before the 11:00 am Mass with the participation of
altar servers and the Sacred Heart Society. During the Mass the
Passion of Jesus Christ will be sung by soloists and members of
our Basilica Choir.
We kindly invite parishioners, students and their parents to
participate and relive this beautiful solemnity.

RETREAT REFLECTIONS
During the last two weeks we conducted separate retreats in
the English and Polish language to give everyone the opportunity to renew his or her faith, deepen their relationship with
Jesus and prepare for Easter Sunday. Participation in the retreats is not mandatory, however traditionally retreats have become an integral part of the Lenten Season just like confession.
Not to attend a retreat without a legitimate or grave reason is a
serious negligence on our part. It sets a bad example to the
children of in our families. Thank you to all who participated
in this spiritual renewal!

POPE FRANCIS SECRET TO HAPPINESS
Respect and take care of nature. We are the stewards of
God’s creation and we have a responsibility to preserve and
protect it—not just for ourselves, but for future generations—
including clean air and water, wetlands, forests, farm lands and
natural resources. Pope Francis asks the question: “Isn’t
humanity committing suicide with this indiscriminate and
tyrannical use of nature?” We can start in our own homes,
schools and workplaces by recycling, reusing and cutting back
on pollutants and waste. Our personal campaign to respect and
care for nature brings happiness because we know that we are
taking time and important steps to respect and preserve our
environment.

POLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
Some of you may already know that on Saturdays we have a Polish
school at which we offer classes of Polish language, history and
geography to elementary school students. These classes are taught in
Polish and offered to the children of the Polish immigrants. However,
in recent weeks we had several students whose first language is
English but who would like to learn Polish. Therefore, we are
considering a dedicated class which would offer Polish as a Second
Language. Classes are taught from 9am - 1pm on Saturdays during the
school year. If you are interested and would like more information,

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
PIĄTA NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU
22 marca 2015
„Lecz takie będzie przymierze, jakie zawrę z domem Izraela po tych dniach wyrocznia Pana: Umieszczę swe prawo w głębi ich jestestwa i wypiszę na ich
sercu. Będę im Bogiem, oni zaś będą Mi narodem.” (Jer 31, 33)
Bóg przez proroka Izajasza zapowiada:
„Nie będą się musieli wzajemnie
pouczać, mówiąc jeden do drugiego:
poznajcie Pana.”
pragnienie więzi z nami znajduje w nas rezonans? Czy jak
Grecy z dzisiejszej Ewangelii chcemy ujrzeć Jezusa?
Page 5
ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
Dzisiejszej niedzieli, po Mszy św. o godz. 8:15 St. Joseph Polish
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
W wielkim poście naszą duchową łączność z Bogiem i pogłębienie
o godz. 13:00 z uczniami naszej szkoły (parafianie i rodzice są mile
widziani), i o 19:00 w języku polskim.
Spowiedź – codziennie po Mszy św. o godz. 6:30, w każdy wtorek
do 19:00 do 20:00 oraz w soboty o 15:00.
Wielkopostna Msza dla dzieci o godz. 9:30 w każdą niedzielę.
TAJEMNICA SZCZĘŚCIA PAPIEŻA FRANCISZKA
Szacunek i troska i środowisko naturalne.
samobójstwem masowe i despotyczne degradowanie natury? Ochronę
możemy zacząć już w naszych domach, szkołach i miejscach pracy
poprzez recykling, wtórne wykorzystywanie zasobów, eliminując
zanieczyszczanie i zmniejszając produkcję śmieci. Nasza osobista
do nas teraz należy czas i podejmowanie działań w celu ochrony
środowiska naturalnego.
MISJE PARAFIALNE
wieściach do Bazyliki.

chcemy podziękować paniom: Sarze i Marzenie Koliński, Ewie
Mamro, Jolancie Podskarbi, Agnieszce Pianka, a także Amadeuszowi
Piwowarczyk za pomoc przy serwowaniu posiłków. Na szczególne
