Do you miss your local Post Office?
As you would all agree it’s been a while since the local post office closed. Two years in fact! Although
some of you may think the Post Office is out of date, or maybe just simply not your cup of tea. You will be
surprised how much you rely on the Post Office. Where do we all go to post a parcel?...post office! What
do we think of when we want to post a letter, or just to get some stamps?...post office!
Are you fed up of waiting in that long queue, now that your local post office is shut?
Well, find out more inside and see what the WCA have been doing about it.
Many of you will recognise Max. He has lived in Westfield all
his life … don’t ask how old he is! He has been ‘post’ed in the area for 18 years so
has got to know lots of folk. ‘Great lot of people here in Westfield,’ said Max. He
is well known for wearing shorts and only forced into long trousers when the
weather is really cold ‘and then I caught the flu straight away’. He says he
generally doesn’t have any problems with dogs along the route but did encounter a
‘killer cat’ that allowed him into the garden but attacked when he tried to leave!
Max really enjoys being outdoors during the spring and summer months but is still
recovering from a ‘bum’p! on the ice. His only request from the Westfield public is
for recommendations for hair-restoring remedies! So, when you see Max with his
heavy bag, give him a smile and be very thankful that we have such a friendly, reliable postman!
2011 CENSUS AFFECTS YOU!!!
Census is something that not everyone has heard of, basically it’s a form that you have to fill
out every ten years. A lot of people are maybe put off by forms but this one really isn’t that
bad, and it’s easier to complete than it was ten years ago! You can use the internet now, which for some of
you will make it easier and faster. This also means less paperwork for you to worry about.
See page 2 on ‘2011 Census Affects You!!!’ for more details!

Westfield Community Association, South Somerset District Council and Post Office Ltd.
have been working hard together to try to re-establish a post office in Westfield since its closure nearly two years
ago. Despite our best efforts this has not been successful for all sorts of reasons beyond our control but we haven’t

given up yet!
We may be wasting our time? If you think that you’re not actually that bothered about losing your post office then
there’s little point in us continuing to make efforts. There are a couple more avenues for us to explore and there are
no promises that we will be successful but, without the backing of the community there is little point in trying any
further. If, however, you feel strongly that a post office is needed in your local area then we will be more than happy
to carry on the quest and will make every effort to explore every avenue open to us. We will be carrying out a survey
during the period of 28th March/10th April, so if you would like to lodge your views with us you can in two ways.
One to one survey: A number of volunteers armed with questionnaires will be outside the Co-op during this period.
Pick up a questionnaire: Questionnaires will be at the following locations with a post box to post your replies.
•
‘Freshfields’ Coronation Avenue.
•
‘The King’s Place’ Coronation Avenue.
•
‘The Co-operative’ Stiby Road.
•
‘Yeovil Sports Club, Johnson Park’ Coronation Avenue.
2011 CENSUS AFFECTS YOU!!!
CONTINUED. . .
In March all residential households in the UK will be taking part in a census.
Since 1801 a day has been chosen every 10 years for this purpose. The census provides an excellent
source of information about the population. This enables central and local government, health
authorities and many other organisations to plan housing, education, health and transport services for
years to come. The census statistics help identify people’s needs to help local authorities plan and provide local
services, so it is crucial that the population estimate is as accurate as possible. The statistics are also used to allocate
grants, so local information is important to our local community groups and charities.
When the questionnaire envelope comes through the door you’ll easily recognise it by its purple 2011 Census logo.
Take care of it. If, like many people, you choose to complete the questionnaire online you’ll need your individual
internet code which is on the front of the questionnaire.
The 2011 Census doesn’t want anyone to miss out so there is a wide range of help options available:
language guidance booklets, large print format, Text Relay and census staff are on hand, as well as online help and
telephone helpline (0300 0201 101).

Hello everyone,
My name is Renata Dudek and I recently started working in Yeovil and East Somerset as a Police Community Support Officer
for Avon and Somerset Constabulary.
I am here to support migrant communities in dealing with local issues, learn more about the police and listen to views of the
community on what the policing priorities should be by reducing the language barrier and fear of the police.
I am working with the whole community to build their trust and confidence in the police so everybody feels safe.
We moved to UK for different reasons … every person has their own, interesting story to tell. We all are doing our best to settle
in the UK and create our new life here far from our homeland. Changes are usually quite difficult, they strengthen our character
and make us more resilient but sometimes there is a price to pay. That usually means leaving something precious behind …
family, dear ones, traditions that are familiar to us and mean so much. Change may spur us to learning something new like a new
language or set of skills. We may also make new friends, but change is also a time full of fear and uncertainty…this is when we
rely on others for help and support.
Thanks to my role in the policing family, I would like to support you in your integration with your local community. I would like
to help you access the policing services that are available. The language barrier or lack of information should no longer be a
barrier to us feeling safe and part of the community.
If you would like to have a chat or would like me to come along and speak at a community group please get in touch. Also, the
information about the existing meetings is available in local Polish shops in Yeovil, Shepton Mallet or Chard or by visiting

Witam Serdecznie!
okregu Avon and Somerset Constabulary.
Wyjechalismy z naszej ojczyzny z roznych powodow… Kazda osoba ma swoja ,ciekawa historie do opowiedzenia . Wszyscy
Zmiany so trudne, ale tez kształtują nasz charakter.
Niekiedy zmiany to okres paraliżującego strachu i niepewności…czas kiedy
polegamy na innych o pomoc.
Chcialabym poprzez moja role ułatwić Panstwu wziecie udzialu w zyciu spolecznosci w ktorej Panstwo mieszkaja.
Chetnie sluze pomoca, rozmowa, informacja.
