The joint meeting of two Research Centers of the Polish Studies
Department will focus on two rare documents that belong to the genre of
young readers’ literature. The hand-written/painted objects, difficult to
categorize, were designed in Łódź Ghetto. The talk by Orit Margaliot will
present The legend of the children and the Jewish Police album. How to
interpret objects that cross the usually applied genre boundaries? How
to relate to the trauma of the Holocaust through ghetto fairytale? How
documents of such undetermined status contribute to our remembering
of the past?
The presentation will be followed by a discussion.
Orit Margaliot: studied history of art and general studies at the Hebrew
University. Works at Yad Vashem since 2000, focusing on education in
Israel and abroad as well as researching issues of Holocaust Art.
