Stewardship Note. “Rising very early before dawn, he left and
went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. . .He told them,
‘Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there
also. For this purpose have I come.”’ Through today’s Gospel
reading we see a perfect example of stewardship. Jesus gives
His time to doing all that God wishes-healing the sick and
preaching. Yet Jesus also makes time to be alone in prayer. It
is only through prayer, through spending time with God, that
any of us can find the strength to do all that God wishes us to
do. Be sure to find time this week to be with God.
Word of life. Our society, which all too often questions the
inestimable value of life, every life, needs you [young people
with disabilities]: in a decisive way you help guild the civilization of love. What is more, you play a leading role in that civilization. As sons and daughters of the Church, you offer the
Lord your lives, with all their ups and downs, cooperating with
him and somehow becoming “part of the treasury of compassion so greatly needed by the human race”.

THE GOOD NEWS
Today’s readings begin with a few verses from the book of
Job. First, Job complains that his nights drag on endlessly.
Then, worse yet, “My days area swifter than a weaver’s shuttle; / they come to an end without hope”. Not exactly encouraging, these lamentations, not when taken alone.
Most of us have been there, though, and the antidote is the
“good news” that Paul found so compelling that “an obligation
has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it!”
Paul felt driven to announce the gospel to as many people as
possible, “to save at least some”.
This good news is the mystery of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who lifted Simon Peter’s mother-in-law
from her sickbed with a mere touch of his hand. “The whole
town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick
with various diseases, and he drove out many demons”. Our
woes and demons are as real as Job’s, and Jesus is our saviour.
The second collection this week is for Catholic Home
Missions Appeal.
Next week’s collection is designated for
Diocesan Obligations.
CUB SCOUTS AND BOY SCOUTS SUNDAY
This Sunday at 8:15am and 9:30am Masses we welcome our
Cub Scouts Pack #173 and Boy Scouts Troop #173. They are
grateful for St. Joseph Parish for their continuous support and
sponsorship of scouting as the troop celebrates its 175th Anniversary in June 2012.
CATHOLIC SCHOOL WEEK
Last Sunday, we celebrated the opening of Catholic Schools
Week with Mass celebrated by Bishop Robert McManus. In
his address to the children he emphasized how privileged they
are that their parents recognize the value of a Catholic education and send them to St. Joseph School, which not only provides them the highest academics but forms their hearts. The
Childrens’ choir with their musical instruments added much to
the quality of Divine Worship.
At the end of the Liturgical celebration, two service
awards—“Partners in Education”—were presented. Mr. Carmine Cacciapuoti was recognized for his outstanding dedication to education and his adherence to Catholic values and untiring work for 37 years in St. Joseph School. Although Mr.
Cacciapuoti is now working on a part-time basis, he is a team
player, role model and totally committed to our school children.
He is also involved in the After School Program and assists the
sports teams.

Also being honored was Mr. Clemence Starosta, a lifetime
member of our Parish, for his strong Catholic identity, commitment to our school and his charitable contributions to the students. Mr. Starosta enjoys providing children with outdoor picnics and other treats, gratis for many years. Our school community and St. Joseph Parish says “Thank You” and “God
Bless you”.
A short slide show in school was presented by Mr. Richard
Skrocki, Dean of Students depicting the highlights of our
school year, intellectual achievements and religious activities.
Dr. Delma Josephson, Superintendent of Diocesan Catholic
Schools emphasized the freedom of learning and practicing
Gospel values in a Catholic school. The editor of the Catholic
Free Press, Mrs. Margaret Russell also participated in the opening of Catholic Schools week at our Basilica.
We are grateful to the HSA, Jubilee Committee, parents,
school and rectory staff for organizing the reception, scavenger
hunt, etc.
IN MEMORIUM
On Wednesday, the first of February, many parishioners,
friends, and church & civic organizations and school children
bid final farewell to Terry Miller by participating in The
Mass of Resurrection at Saint Joseph Basilica. Terry began
her career at St. Joseph’s by working first at our school for a
brief period of time and for at least 17 years she was the Administrative Secretary of St. Joseph Parish. She was a member of many parish organizations, serving on various committees and offered her time, talent and treasure to Saint Joseph
School and Saint Joseph Basilica. We admire her spirit of integrity, leadership, administrative skills and generosity, but
above all her loyalty to the Parish and to me.
She played a crucial role in the renovation of the Parish by
conducting successful fund raising activities, participated in
the development of plans, was involved in the work force.
She served on the general committee for the upcoming Gym
and Parish Center and looked forward to celebrating our 125th
Jubilee Year, but God determined otherwise. Bishop Reilly
who attended her funeral Mass, emphasized her kindness,
abilities, her positive and unique contributions to our parish
life.

REGISTRATION FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-2013
Many new families toured our school under the direction of
Mr. Cushing and Mr. Skrocki and they were acquainted with
the learning strategies, visited various classrooms, witnessed
interactive Promethean boards by the teachers, etc. We have
already received a significant number of applications for students in Pre-K, but we first want to accommodate children from
our parish so we encourage parents to register immediately.
We want to bring to your attention the fact that we lowered the
fees for Pre-K. Please call the school or rectory for details.
We are also accepting registrations for grades K through 8 at
any time. Please call the school to arrange a tour during school
time which is preferable, or after school.
We have printed brochures about the school including the
recent newsletter which will be placed at the entrances to the
Church. Parishioners who are graduates of St. Joseph School
will receive the newsletter by mail. We count on your prayers
and good words and unconditional support for this great learning institution built by your parents.

Catechists needed-we are still in need of Catechists and if
you are interested, please call the Religious Education office to
learn more.
Retreat-for grades 6, 7, and 8 is scheduled for Sat. Feb. 11th
from 8:30am—2:30pm at St. Joseph School. Our young people
will be going deeper in their faith and explore who they are as
young Catholics and learn about peer pressure.
The next Echoes course will be held on Feb. 15th at 7:00pm
in the school.

VALENTINE DINNER DANCE
The Jubilee Committee and the Polish Saturday School
cordially invite parishioners and friends to a Valentine Dinner
Dance on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at PACC in Webster
from 6pm – 12:30am. We hope that this evening will be an occasion to enjoy friendship as one Family of God’s children
gathered together to share the mutual company in the spirit of
pride in the accomplishments of the parish in the past 125
years. The entertainment will be provided by live band “Signal”
from New Britain, CT who regularly plays in New York City
and Boston. American & Polish music will be provided. Tickets
are $30 per person and include hors d’oeuvres at 6pm, buffet

Wii Bowling at Christopher Heights-The Jr. & Sr. Youth
Groups will have another Wii Bowling contest with the residents of Christopher Heights on Tues. Feb. 7 from 6-7:15pm.

Snow Tubing at Ward Hill-Youths in grades 3-12 and their
families are invited to snow tubing at Ward Hill on Sat. Feb.
11th. The cost is $21 per person. Payment must be received
no later than Feb. 4th. Checks payable to Mary Ellen Valcour.
(Ward Hill requires one payment.) Youths in grades 3-5 must
be accompanied by an adult. We will carpool from St. Louis
School parking lot at 5:00pm and return by 9:00pm.
Drivers will be needed to help carpool to and from Ward

GOVERNMENT’S ASSAULT ON RELIGIOUS
FREEDOM
The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services has
ruled, against the vigorous objection of hundreds of thousands
of people that all employers, including Catholic employers,
must offer their employees health insurance that includes coverage for sterilizations, abortion-inducing drugs and contraceptives. This mandate constitutes an unprecedented violation of
the Church’s religious liberty guaranteed by the Constitution
and an unacceptable intrusion into the Church’s operations of
its own institutions.
Please refer to Bishop Robert McManus’ letter placed at the
entrances to the Basilica on how we can personally help to restore our religious liberty.
KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
PIĄTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA

„On liczbę gwiazd oznacza, wszystkie je woła po imieniu.” (Ps 147, 4)
Świat naznaczony jest chorobami, wypadkami, tragicznymi splotami wydarzeń. Nawet wiara nie zdoła uchronić nas
przed doświadczeniem poważnych kryzysów. Jednak nam,
którzyśmy usłyszeli Dobrą Nowinę i przyjęli jej moc, dane
jest światło nadziei płynącej ze zmartwychwstania Chrystusa. To światło jest wszystkim niezbędne do życia, dlatego
świadomi rozmiarów ludzkiego bólu i rozpaczy, jako chrześcijanie stawajmy się szafarzami nadziei, która podnosi
i leczy złamanych na duchu.
Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na
Catholic Home Missions Appeal.
W następną niedzielę druga kolekta będzie przeznaczona na
zobowiązania diecezjalne.
TYDZIEŃ SZKÓŁ KATOLICKICH
W ubiegła niedzielę, Mszą św. pod przewodnictwem Jego
Ekscelencji bpa Roberta McManus, rozpoczęliśmy kolejny Tydzień szkół katolickich. Dzieci ze szkolnego chóru upiększały
swoim śpiewem uroczystą Liturgię. W swojej homilii biskup
zwrócił się do dzieci podkreślając, jak bardzo są uprzywilejowane tym, że rodzice posłali ich do katolickiej szkoły, która nie
tylko zapewnia im wysokie wykształcenie, ale jednocześnie
kształtuje ich serca.
Na zakończenie Mszy św. biskup wręczył dwie nagrody.
Pierwsza trafiła w ręce pana Carmine’a Caccapuoti za Jego
oddanie dla pracy w szkole i przywiązanie do wartości katolickich. Nagroda ta jest również podziękowaniem za 37 lat niestrudzonej pracy w szkole św. Józefa.
Druga nagroda została wręczona panu Clemence Starosta,
członkowi naszej parafii, za jego bardzo silną tożsamość chrześcijańską, poświęcenie dla szkoły i uczniów.
Po uroczystościach religijnych rozpoczęło się spotkanie w
szkole, podczas którego pan Richard Skrocki zaprezentował
założenia i cele naszej szkoły, intelektualne dokonania i zajęcia
religijne. Natomiast Pani dr Delma Josephson, Superintendent
of Diocesan Catholic Schools podkreśliła w swoim wystąpieniu
wolność jaką cieszą się szkoły katolickie w propagowaniu i
praktykowaniu wartości ewangelicznych.
Dziękujemy członkom HSA i rodzicom za zorganizowanie
poczęstunku.

IN MEMORIUM
W środę pierwszego lutego, na uroczystej Msz pogrzebowej
z udziałem rodziny, przyjaciół oraz przedstawicieli różnorodnych organizacji, pożegnaliśmy Terry Miller, wieloletnią pracownicę szkoły i parafii św. Józefa. Przez ponad 17 lat pracy
jako Administrative Secretary i jednocześnie jako członkini
licznych organizacji parafialnych poświęcała swój czas i zdolności dla naszej wspólnoty szkolnej i parafialnej.
Uczestniczący w uroczystościach pogrzebowych bp Reilly
podkreślił jej uprzejmość i pozytywny wkład w życie naszej
parafii.
Jej życzeniem było, by wszystkie ofiary składane ku jej pamięci były przeznaczone na Saint Joseph School Music Program.
Wieczny odpoczynek racz Jej dać Panie,
a światłość wiekuista niechaj Jej świeci.
Niech odpoczywa w pokoju wiecznym.

Wiele nowych rodzin zwiedziło naszą szkołę wsłuchując się
w informacje przekazywane przez panów Cushing’a i Skrockiego i zaznajamiając się z planem nauczania, odwiedzając klasy i
poznając znajdujące się w nich wyposażenie. Kilkoro rodziców
już podjęło decyzję, aby posłać swoje dzieci do naszego przedszkola. Pragniemy by nasza szkoła służyła w pierwszej kolejności dzieciom z naszej parafii, dlatego też zachęcamy do zapisów
już teraz. Podkreślamy jednocześnie, że została zmieszona
opłata za Pre-K. Przyjmowane już są też zapisy w wszystkich
klas. Zainteresowanych prosimy o kontakt ze szkołą albo biurem parafialnym.

Rekolekcje dla klas 6,7,8 odbędą się w sobotę 11 lutego w
godz. Od 8:30 do 14:30. Przeżywanie rekolekcji pozwoli naszej
młodzieży zgłębić ich wiarę i stać się lepszymi katolikami.
Wspierajmy ich naszym przykładem i modlitwą.
