FIRST SUNDAY IN ADVENT
December 2, 2012
I will raise up for David a just shoot; he shall do what is
right and just. — Jeremiah 33:15
THE PROMISE OF JUSTICE
We are in fairly good company when we ask
God for justice. Often enough we hear and
agree with the lament of the people of Israel
asking God why the wicked prosper. However, when we call out for justice, we usually
want someone to get his or her comeuppance.
God’s justice is something other than this, of course. God’s
justice comprises a wonderful rightness between God and humankind.
Today, Jeremiah looks ahead to a time when a just one will
sprout from the shorn-off stump of Jesse of the house and family of David. Life was not fair in Jeremiah’s time. Israel’s
kings held the promise of God’s fidelity, but it was difficult to
see how God’s promise could be realized through them.
Nevertheless, Jeremiah lifts his voice and announces that the
Promised One will come. Luke’s Gospel echoes that announcement, and Paul is filled with sturdy encouragement.
And so Advent begins with a promise.
This weekend’s second collection will taken
for Diocesan Obligations.
Next week’s second collection is designated for the Retirement
of the Religious.
December Schedule
Saturday, Dec. 1st - 4:00pm Mass - First Sunday of Advent.
Mass will begin with children carrying votive lights to the altar.
Oplatki will be blessed and will be available in the sacristy after
all Masses.

3:00pm with the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by
benediction. Adorers are asked to attend at their scheduled
time. Please note: All members and parishioners are cordially
invited to join us at the 7:00am Mass which is designated for
the living members of the Sacred Heart Society.
Saturday, Dec. 8th - The Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Please refer to the Mass schedule.
RECONCILIATION SERVICE
The Advent Season is associated with preparation for Christmas by receiving the Sacrament of Penance, traditionally
known as confession. On Monday Dec. 17th at 6:00pm a Reconciliation Service will be held in our Basilica with several
visiting priests to assist for your convenience. Please note this
date on your calendar.

CHRISTMAS REFLECTION
As you look forward to Advent, Christmas and the New
Year you should count the many blessings that God has bestowed upon you and your family and think how you can return
to Him, all that He has given to you. In the spirit of love and
gratitude, seriously consider at this time of the year, to increase
your weekly offering to the Church and if you should have an
unexpected windfall offer a more substantial donation.
Through that noble gesture you will not only support the
Church of Jesus Christ but also acquire a tax benefit for 2012.
As you prepare to obtain gifts for others and the Church, in
these difficult economic times, think about a different kind of
gift. A gift does not need to fit into a box and be wrapped in
foreign produced wrapping paper. Factories in Asia provide
Americans with piles of cheaply produced goods at the expense
of American labor. In this time of sharing and giving we can
try to think outside the box and perhaps buy only American
made products. You can buy a certificate from your local vendor or help students to obtain a Catholic education by taking an
“Angel of Wisdom” from the giving tree, or helping the elderly,
etc. Christmas should not drain American pockets so that foreign countries from hostile regions can build glittering cities.
Contributing to charitable causes will stay in our community
and will help to build the Church of Jesus Christ.
It is well known that children by nature are good, but they are
also capable of evil acts. Humanity is stained by original sin.
Children are very susceptible to the permissive influence of
culture with absolute unlimited and often misunderstood freedom. Pope Benedict XVI in Encyclical Spes Salvi stated,
“Because a human being remains free and his freedom is always fragile therefore never in this world will there be established a universal and irrevocable kingdom of goodness and
whoever makes this promise is misleading”. This is a very true
statement. We have to struggle with evil on a daily basis. There
are plenty of books written on this subject by Christian and non
- Christian educators who address the issue of moral insanity.
The school in its educational and formational program cannot
minimize or ignore evil and its consequences. Many wrong
doings begin with small things and escalate into a serious, excessive, illegal, conflict which usually ends up in juvenile court.
To prevent an evil act by telling the student that we should
work for the common good, do not hurt another person and
behave well is often ineffective. Only deeply rooted religious
conviction can withstand the temptations of evil. It is a well
known fact that people who are involved in destructive acts,
drugs, etc., cannot break the cycle without religion, strong values and surrender to the power of God and support of friends in
a community of faith.
SCHOOL NEWS
The blessing of our Christmas Tree and lighting will take
place on Saturday, Dec. 8th following 4:00pm Mass.
A ham and turkey Christmas dinner will be served after the
tree lighting in the school cafeteria. Tickets will be on sale
through Dec. 2nd-Adults $10 and children under 12-$5. Join us
for this special holiday treat which is being coordinated by the
125th Jubilee Committee and the HSA.
Next Saturday, Dec. 8th we will celebrate Family Mass at
4:00pm with school children and parents. The Children’s Choir
will provide Liturgical music. We ask our students to meet at
the entrance of the Basilica and carry the lighted candles to
symbolize the entry from darkness to light which is the main
meaning of Advent.
Save the Date: On Sunday, December 16th our St. Joseph
School children will present their Christmas Pageant at
2:00pm at the Bartlett High School Auditorium—entitled “A
Christmas Alphabet” and “Carriers of the Light-A Children’s Christmas Musical”. This musical pageant offers the
opportunity for us to enter into the spirit of Christmas and enjoy
the beautiful show presented by our students with such zeal and
artistic talent. Tickets are available at the school-Adults and
children over 12- $5; Seniors over 60 and students 6-12-$3;
children 5 & under- free admission.
Catholic Schools Distinctiveness-Over the last several decades we have witnessed a disturbing, even delinquent behavior
of young people. Many ask why? Successful pedagogy depends on how integrated anthropology is used to form the character of an individual. Our Nov., 18th bulletin-”What is a
Catholic School” referred to this topic. In a holistic approach
to a human being the presence of evil in a person and community cannot be ignored. In addition the children should know
that every evil act has consequences and only religion and faith
in God has the motivation and power to overcome evil.
YEAR OF FAITH
Last Sunday, we provided some pastoral suggestions for
“The Year of Faith”. One of the most important components
of this special year is our own prayer life as an individual, family and St. Joseph parish community. Prayer is the life line to
all our achievements. Personal prayer can take many forms,
such as meditation, reflection on the Gospel, reciting the Rosary, pilgrimages and novenas.
During the Advent Season we have introduced a Mass at
8:30am on Wednesday’s associated with a Novena to St. Joseph. St. Joseph is our patron saint and patron of the universal
Church. I challenge all those who are physically fit and have
the time, to join us at these Wednesday Masses. May this Novena to St. Joseph prepare us to celebrate the joy of Christmas.
CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE
In the front and back of the Basilica stands a giving tree
which represents the basic needs of children. Please take an
Angel home and make a difference in the life of a child. After
all, Jesus the Son of God and Redeemer of the world was born
as a baby and throughout his life his teachings always found
time for children. Obviously our allegiance during Christmas
time is always to Jesus and his Church—children are only stepping stones. A little Christmas remembrance would bring much
happiness into many lives. If you choose a monetary request
please leave your gift in the sacristy or bring it to the rectory.
2013 CALENDARS– “THE TWELVE”
We are grateful to the Sitkowski/Malboeuf Funeral Home,
Inc. for providing us with the beautifully designed and informative calendar as we follow “The Twelve” throughout 2013. It
notes many Holy Days, special commemorative days and
should be displayed in all of our homes.
These calendars are available in the sacristy. We will accept
a donation which will be forwarded to our Religious Education
Program.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
PIERWSZA NIEDZIELA ADWENTU
2 grudnia 2012
„W owych dniach i w owym czasie wzbudzę Dawidowi
potomstwo sprawiedliwe; będzie wymierzać prawo i
sprawiedliwość na ziemi.” (Jer 33, 15)
OBIETNICA
W
kontekście
napawających
trwogą
zapowiedzi końca świata pojawia się
wezwanie, by „nabrać ducha i podnieść
ciemności światło, a w śmierci życie.

W
tym
miesiącu
pierwszopiątkowa
Adoracja
Najświętszego Sakramentu rozpocznie się jak zwykle po
Mszy św. o godz. 7:00 i zostanie zakończona Koronką do
Miłosierdzia Bożego o godz. 15:00.
razem będzie do Msza szczególna, bo połączona z wigilią
święta Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Marii Panny.
W związku z tym będzie ona odprawiona o godz. 17:00, a
nie jak zwykle o godz. 19:00.
UROCZYSTOŚĆ NIEPOKALANEGO POCZĘCIA
NMP
Zbawieia.
SPOWIEDŹ ADWENTOWA
Adwent jest okresem przygotowania do Święta Narodzenia
Pańskiego. Jednym z najważniejszych elementów tego
przygotowania jest spowiedź, która pozwala przygotować
serca na przujęcie Nowonarodzonego. W naszej parafii
spowiedź adwentowa odbędzie się w poniedziałek 17
grudnia o godz. 18:00. W konfesjonałach posługiwać będą
zaproszeni księża.
REFLEKSJA BOŻONARODZENIOWA
W raz ze zbliżającymi się Adwentem, Bożym
Narodzeniem i Nowym Rokiem powinniśmy zwrócić uwagę
W czasie,
kiedy spodziewamy się otrzymać prezenty i podarunki
świąteczne warto pomyśleć o potrzebujących, starszych,
ubogich, czy też w miarę możliwości, o wsparciu uczniów w
szkołach katolickich lub też wspomożeniu własnej parafii
dodatkową ofiarą. Święta zawsze wiążą się ze zwiększonymi
wydatkami.
roku. Nie dajmy się ponieść jedynie szałowi świątecznych
zakupów i przygotowań, które zasłonią nam kompletnie to,
czym jest Boże Narodzenie. Postarajmy się, by nasze serca
dotknęła rzeczywista obecność maleńkiego Jezusa.
Przygotujmy się poprzez rozpoczęty Adwent do spotkania z
Bogiem.
Bo to przecież czas, kiedy Panna
pocznie i porodzi Syna, którego imię jest „Bóg z nami” a my
winnimy czeka na Jego nadejcie z otwartymi sercami,
przepełnionymi dobrem!
BŁOGOSŁAWIEŃSTWO CHOINKI
Błogosławieństwo naszej Chinki świątecznej odbędzie się
w sobotę 8 grudnia po Mszy św. o godz. 16:00.
w cenach $10 dorosli i $5 dzieci powyżej 12 lat. Kolacja jest
organizowana przez Komitet Jubileuszowy i HSA.
OPŁATKI
Opłatki stanowią bardzo ważny element Tradycji
Bożonarodzeniowych do których należy Wieczerza
Wigilijna.
16:00. Poświęcone
opłatki będą dostępne w zakrystii.
JUBILEUSZOWE DVD
Pamiątkowe DVD (zestaw 2 płyt ) z Mszy i bankietu
naszej Uroczystości Jubileuszowej są do nabycia przy
wejściach do bazyliki, po wszystkich Mszach w cenie 15
dolarów.
CHRISTMAS SHOW
Za dwa tygodnie, w niedzielę 16 grudnia, dzieci z naszej
szkoły zapraszają na świąteczne przedstawienie, które
zaprezentują nam w Bartlett High School o godz. 14:00.
Przedstawienie nosi tytuł: Christmas Alphabet” i „Carriers
of the Light – Achildren’s Christmas Musical” Zapraszamy
pozwoli nam lepiej poczuć atmosferę Świąt i pomoże nam
głębiej przygotować się na przyjęcie Nowonarodzonego.
CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE
swoim potrzebom. Sprawmy, by dzieci poczuły miłość i
radość ze spełniających się marzeń. Ofiary pieniężne
prosimy przynosić do zakrystii lub na plebanię. Bóg zapłać
wszystkim ofiarodawcom.
RELIGIA
Lekcje Religii odbywają się w każdy poniedziałek w
godz. od 17:30 do 18:30.
Potrzebujemy wolontariuszy, którzy zechcieliby
dołączyć się do grona katechetycznego. Zainteresowanych
prosimy o kontakt z kancelarią parafialną.
Bierzmowanie.
Spotkania
przygotowawcze
dla
kandydatów do bierzmowania będą odbywały się w grudniu
w następujących dniach: 8 grudnia (sobota) -Rekolekcje, 23
grudnia (niedziela) godz. 8:30 Obecność kandydatów jest
obowiązkowa.
