Thank you for your cooperation. - Theresa Jankowski - Connie Czechowski Stewardship Note. We are the servants of God, each with his or her own task. We will be judged good stewards if, at His coming, He finds us ready and conscientiously pursuing the tasks to which we have been called. We are grateful for so many who volunteer in parish ministries and organizations and we are continually looking for new people to help with Christmas decorations, visiting the sick and helping in the office. Stewardship is similar to discipleship which permeates the life of the parish and is clearly visible in the work and worship of people who dedicate countless hours of service and sacrifice their resources for the good of the Church. They may not use that word but they indeed do practice. Stewardship is the constitutive element of true discipleship and the visible barometer of the parish spiritually and vitality. FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT Be alert! You don’t know when the time will come. —Mark 13:33 MARK’S JESUS Mark’s Gospel is the shortest and tersest of all four. The discourses of Jesus tend to be terser as well. Mark’s portrayal of Jesus has none of the poetry of the Sermon on the Mount or the Sermon on the Plain as in Matthew or Luke, nor the extensive, reflective “I Am” discourses as in John. Mark’s Jesus “cuts to the chase,” we would say today. This is reflected quite well in today’s passage. It is no accident that the dialogue of Jesus at this point in the Gospel according to Mark—the concluding words about the end of the world—immediately before his passion, is riddled with exclamation points and an overall sense of urgency. We would do well to re-tool our own way of living this Advent, for we live in a world urgently in need of hearing the message of Jesus proclaimed. It’s time for us to “wake up!” and get out into the world to do it. Word of Life. Analyzing the risk of mental health problems for women after an abortion, a new meta-analysis of 22 studies - with a total of over 800,000 participants—found that women who aborted a child have an 81% increased risk of subsequent mental health problems compared to women who have not had an abortion. When compared to women with an “unplanned” pregnancy who gave birth, women who had an abortion have a 138% higher risk of mental health problems. If you are grieving from a past abortion, contact your diocesan Project Rachel Ministry for confidential help at 508-791-HOPE. Second collection this weekend is for all remaining envelopes in your packet. ADVENT Advent is a special time of preparation to celebrate the Incarnation of the Son of God in the Lord's Nativity. This is inextricably linked with the expectation of His second coming. The Son of God became man to give us a share in the life of God. We have a constant temptation to treat this life on earth as if it would last forever. Yet here we have no permanent place and everything, that we do, is transient. We are given a certain time on earth for which we will have to report. An Evangelical vigil, of which we hear in Advent, does not mean passivity or escaping from life and has nothing to do with anxiety. Anyone who is watchful and alert remembers the ultimate goal of life and should be prepared every day to pass on to meet the Lord. - - Fr. Gregory SCHOOL NEWS Students of the Month of October: Grade 8 Thomas Clifford, Grade 7 Hannah Yash, Grade 6 Shauna Harney, Grade 5 Justyn Sudyka, Grade 4 Abigail Duval, Grade 3 Savannah Belsito, Grade 2 Elzbieta Gronek, Grade 1 Benjamin Duquette, K– Riley Heenan, Pre-K 5 Elizabeth Mahlert, Pre-K2/3 Colin Smith. OPLATKI - CHRISTMAS WAFERS Christmas Day is so important in the life of the Church that it is surrounded with many traditions. Some include Church celebrations, devotional practices and others are related to home customs as Christmas pageants, caroling, social gatherings, etc. The most popular is the family Christmas Eve Dinner which traditionally is preceded by all-day-fasting. The most important part of the dinner was sharing the Oplatek and the exchanging of greetings with those with whom we share our life. At 4:00pm Mass we will bless the wafers and they will be available in the sacristy. Page 4 FINANCIAL REPORT I want to clarify that our financial report, that was available for your viewing at the entrances to the church, is based on a cash basis on the recommendation of the Diocese and for the fiscal year which ended Aug. 31, 2011. Therefore, if bills were not received before Aug. 31st, they are not reflected in this report, e.g., the Blessed John Paul II Statue was not delivered until Sept. 22nd and we paid the final installment in Sept., which falls in the new fiscal year. The term Diocesan Obligations is a confusing term to many. We receive a monthly bill for several items which are reported/included in different categories of our financial report. Cathedraticum tax on weekly collections (7.5%) as well as Property, Liability & Equipment Insurances are reported in the total of Church Operating Expenses; Priests’ Retirement and Custodial Care are reported in the total of Priests’ Fringe Benefits; and Workers’ Comp., Full-time employees’ Health Insurance & Pension Plan are reported in the Lay Employees Fringe Benefits category of the report. Gregory comprised a team of guest speakers at the Serra Club monthly meeting on Nov. 16th at the Colonial Club. The event began with a sit-down meal, followed by the regular monthly business portion of the agenda and the induction ceremony into the Serra Club by one of the meeting attendees. Mr. Cushing spoke on the assigned topic of religious vocations and what St. Joseph School has done in the past and in the present to foster/promote/mentor religious vocations. He noted that SJS is very proud of the fact that 22 of it’s former young men as well as 80 of it’s former young women have gone onto religious life as their lifelong vocations since the school was established in 1892 and staffed by the Felician Sisters. He went on to say that 8 of the school’s graduates, who entered the priesthood are still alive and practicing their vocations and that 7 o the sisters, who graduated from St. Joseph School enjoy the same status. The art of exploring a vocation/application process of same and the qualities an applicant should have as well as pursue were discussed. Fr. Gregory spoke on his religious vocation journey and past mentoring. By many examples, taken from Church teaching and his own experience, Fr. Gregory explained that recognition of religious vocation is supposed to be based on the personal relation of love between God and someone searching his own life path. During this process, what is very important is support and encouragement given by the faith community because the “called” person is chosen by God to serve His people. He went on to list several tips and procedures which an interested applicant could follow in pursuit of a religious vocation. Zachęcamy jednocześnie do prywatnej adoracji Najświętszego Sakramentu. Przed Mszą wieczorną możliwość spowiedzi od godz. 18:00. W programie spotkań m.in. prezentacje video i różnorodne atrakcje. Tematy spotkań są następujące: 4 grudnia: „Celebrate the gift of Jesus”- robienie prezentu dla Jezusa. 11 grudnia: “Christ the Savior is born” – robienie szopki. 18 grudnia: “Follow the star” – robienie gwiazdy na choinkę.
