The widow in today’s Gospel “contributed all she had, her whole
livelihood.” (Mark 12: 44) She gave from her need, not simply from
her surplus. Our sacrificial giving involves more than a simple
monetary donation. It involves offering our entire lives to God.
What are you doing to give your “all,” your “whole livelihood” to
God? Does your “all” include your time and talent as well as your
treasure? Does your “all” include our missionary call to “Go in
peace, glorifying the Lord by your life?”

Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle B

Jesus notices a poor widow's
offering and commends her
great sacrifice.
Background on the Gospel Reading
The context for today's Gospel continues to be mounting tension between Jesus and the Jewish authorities. Mark reports
some of Jesus' teaching in the Temple area in today's reading
and in the preceding verses not included in our Lectionary
sequence. In the first part of today's Gospel, we hear Jesus
warn the crowds not to follow the example of the scribes in
seeking honor and attention from others. It is important to
recall that Mark indicates that Jesus taught these things while
in the vicinity of the Temple in Jerusalem. Mark is setting the
stage for Jesus' passion.
Jesus then observes how Jewish pilgrims are making their
contributions to the temple treasury. The Temple in Jerusalem
was the center of Jewish worship in the time of Jesus. It was
expected that observant Jews would make pilgrimages to the
Temple to offer prayer and sacrifices. Pilgrims were also expected to make a financial contribution to the temple treasury.
As we would expect to be the case, Jesus observes that
those who were rich contributed large sums to the treasury.
Those with less means made smaller contributions. A similar
situation exists in most of our parishes as well. Jesus calls
attention, however, to a poor widow who makes the smallest
of contributions—two coins of little value. Jesus upholds the
poor widow's offering for his disciples' consideration, commending her because her small offering was an act of profound generosity, giving from her livelihood rather than her
surplus.
To give from our livelihood is not only an act of generosity, it
is also an act of trust in God. We can only give from our need
if we trust that God will provide for us. Jesus himself demonstrates the ultimate act of generosity and trust in God as he
gives his life for us on the cross.
The next Religious Education (CCD) class will be held
on Saturday morning, November 17, 2012. Classes meet from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.

THE RIGHT AMOUNT
Today's Gospel should prompt us to look again at money in our lives
as people of faith. Jesus comments on well-dressed religious leaders offering large sums to the temple treasury. A poor widow offers
two cents. Jesus praises her because she is giving all she has to live
on, while the wealthy are giving only what they can spare. If everyone could see what you put in the parish offertory basket every
week, would you feel anxious, embarrassed, or angry? Would you
look at others' contributions and change yours? Or would you be at
peace, knowing that your gift reflects real gratitude for God's blessings? Jesus does not ask us to give everything; he condemns the
scribes for letting the widow do that. God is the giver of all, so how
do we offer thanks? What portion do you give back to honor God
and to build up the Church? The amount is between you and God.

A simple guideline for giving money each year:
1. Decide what portion of your income truly expresses
your gratitude to God.
2. Of that total, set aside 50 percent to give to your parish
in the offertory collection.
3. Give 10 percent of the total to your diocesan annual
appeal.
3. Donate the other 40 percent to the charities and good
causes you favor.

asientos de honor en las sinagogas y los primeros puestos en
los banquetes; y devoran los bienes de las viudas con pretexto de largos rezos. Esos recibirán una sentencia más rigurosa.
Estando Jesús sentado enfrente del cepillo del templo, observaba a la gente que iba echando dinero: muchos ricos echaban en cantidad; se acercó una viuda pobre y echó dos reales. Llamando a sus discípulos les dijo: Os aseguro que esa
pobre viuda ha echado en el cepillo más que nadie. Porque
los demás han echado de lo que les sobra, pero ésta, que
pasa necesidad, ha echado todo lo que tenía para vivir.

La Pregunta de la Semana….

La ventana del Evangelio de hoy “pero ella, de su pobreza echó todo
lo que poseía, todo lo que tenía para vivir” (Marcos 12:44). Ella dio lo
que tenia, no simplemente sus sobras. Nuestros sacrificios de dar
envuelven más que una simple donación monetaria. Envuelve ofrecer nuestras vida entera.
¿Qué estas haciendo para dar el “todo, su “vida entera”
para Dios? ¿Su “todo” incluye su tiempo y su talento
como al igual que su tesoro? ¿Su “todo” incluye nuestro llamado misionero para que “Vayan en paz, glorificando al Señor con su vida? (Texto del despedida del

LA CANTIDAD CORRECTA
El Evangelio de hoy debe motivarnos a volver a considerar en
nuestra vida como personas de
fe. Jesús hace sus comentarios
acerca de los lideres religiosos
bien vestidos que ofrecen grandes cantidades para las alcancías
del templo. Una pobre viuda ofrece dos centavos y Jesús la alaba porque ella ha dado de lo que
tiene para vivir mientras que los ricos dan de los que les sobras.
Si todos pudieran ver lo que tu pones en la cesta de la colecta
parroquial todas las semanas, ¿sentirías ansiedad, vergüenza o
enojo? ¿ Te fijarías en lo que dan los demás y harías un cambio en tu contribución? ¿O te sentirias en paz sabiendo que tu
ofrenda refleja de veras tu gratitud por las bendiciones recibidas
de Dios? Jesus no nos pide que lo demos todo; el reprueba a los
escribas por permitir que la viuda lo haga. Dios es el dador de
todo, asi es que, ¿Cómo le damos las gracias? ¿Qué porcion das
para honrar a Dios y construir la Iglesia? Esa cantidad es entre tu
y Dios.

Jezus nauczając mówił do zgromadzonych: Strzeżcie się uczonych w Piśmie. Z upodobaniem chodzą oni w powłóczystych
szatach, lubią pozdrowienia na rynku, pierwsze krzesła w synagogach i zaszczytne miejsca na ucztach. Objadają domy wdów i
dla pozoru odprawiają długie modlitwy. Ci tym surowszy dostaną wyrok. Potem usiadł naprzeciw skarbony i przypatrywał
się, jak tłum wrzucał drobne pieniądze do skarbony. Wielu bogatych wrzucało wiele. Przyszła też jedna uboga wdowa i wrzuciła dwa pieniążki, czyli jeden grosz. Wtedy przywołał swoich
uczniów i rzekł do nich: Zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Ta uboga
wdowa wrzuciła najwięcej ze wszystkich, którzy kładli do skarbony. Wszyscy bowiem wrzucali z tego, co im zbywało; ona
zaś ze swego niedostatku wrzuciła wszystko, co miała, całe swe
utrzymanie.

Wdowa z dzisiejszej Ewangelii “oddała wszystko co miała na swoje
utrzymanie” (Mark 12:44). Ofiarowała pomimo tego, że sama potrzebowała,
a nie dlatego, że jej zbywało. Nasze ofiary to więcej niż donacje pieniężne.
Ofiarowujemy Bogu całe nasze życie.
Co czynisz, aby oddać Bogu całe twoje utrzymanie? Czy ofiarowujesz
również twój czas, talent i to co dla ciebie drogocenne? Czy do swojej ofiary
włączasz również misyjne wezwanie Mszy Św. „Idźcie w pokoju
Chrystusa” (Mszał Rzymski Obrzędy Zakończenia).

Święto Niepodległości
Dzień 11 listopada ustanowiono świętem państwowym po raz pierwszy
dopiero w 1937 roku. W
latach 1939-44 podczas
okupacji hitlerowskiej
oraz w okresie od 1945
do 1989 roku, w czasie rządów komunistycznych obchodzenie święta 11 listopada było zakazane. Dopiero
w roku 1989, ustawą Sejmu, przywrócono obchody
tego święta, od tego roku Święto Niepodległości jest
najważniejszym świętem państwowym a dzień 11 listopada jest dniem wolnym od pracy.
Święto obchodzone jest w całym kraju lecz najważniejsze obchody odbywają się w Warszawie na placu
Józefa Piłsudzkiego pod Grobem Nieznanego Żołnierza.
CZŁOWIEK ZDOLNY PRZYJĄĆ BOGA
„26 Gdy wyznajemy naszą wiarę, zaczynamy od słów:
"Wierzę" lub "Wierzymy". Dlatego wykład wiary Kościoła wyznawanej w Credo, celebrowanej w liturgii oraz

46 Gdy człowiek słucha orędzia stworzeń i głosu swego
sumienia, może osiągnąć pewność co do istnienia Boga,

naszego Stwórcę i Pana, można poznać w sposób pewny
przez Jego dzieła, za pomocą naturalnego światła rozumu

różnorodnych doskonałościach stworzeń, podobnych do
Boga nieskończenie doskonałego, nawet jeśli nasz ograniczony język nie wyczerpuje Jego tajemnicy.
