Thank you to Felicia Carrera for initiating and facilitating
our trip to The National Shrine of the Divine Mercy, which
took place on Saturday, April 14th. It was a beautiful and
uplifting day spent with friends and fellow parishioners. We
were able to raise $800 as a donation to our parish.
CONFIRMATION
On Thursday, April 26th, at 7:30PM, Bishop Joseph M.
Sullivan will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation with
the students in our religious education program, as well as
the students of Our Lady of Refuge Parish. The students

FULFILLMENT
TODAY’S READINGS
It is interesting that during the Easter season, when we
do not hear a reading from the Old Testament, it becomes
so important. This is particularly true today. Peter’s
speech begins with a prayer formula familiar to Jews:
“The God of Abraham . . .” (Acts 3:13). It likewise
contains the potent phrases “Holy and Righteous One”
and “mouth of all the prophets” (3:14, 18). Peter was
stating in no uncertain terms that the law, psalms, and
prophets had been fulfilled in Christ. This is reinforced by
Jesus himself in the Gospel passage, when he states that
everything in the scriptures (to the early Christians “the
scriptures” were what we call the Old Testament) had to
be fulfilled. Above all, Jesus and Peter both emphasize
that we are witnesses to all of this, and are sent forth to
bear witness to it in the world. The Latin Missa, from
which our word “Mass” comes, means “sent” (as in
“mission”). As we leave Mass today, let us remember to
be witnesses to all that has been fulfilled in the risen
Christ.
First Reading - The God of our fathers has glorified his
servant Jesus (Acts 3:13-15, 17-19).
Psalm - Lord, let your face shine on us (Psalm 4).
Second Reading - The way we may be sure that we know
Jesus is to keep his commandments (1 John 2:1-5a).

“Peace be with you” (Luke 24:35-48).

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The season of First Communions is here, and
invitations pour in as the new communicants, mostly
seven years old, gather extended families for their first
reception of the Eucharist. Recently, the celebrations are
often on Sundays, in the regular gatherings of the faith
community. There, it becomes clear that First
Communion is meant to initiate a regular pattern of
reception, and that there is to be a second, third,
hundredth, thousandth celebration.
Eastern Catholics and Orthodox children follow a
different plan, since they are given a taste of the
consecrated wine at their baptism as infants. We Western
Christians delay until “the age of reason,” but many years
ago, Communion was not for children at all. Twelve to
fourteen was the typical time for Roman Catholics to
receive for the first time, and in those days this was a
transition into the adult world of work and marriage. The
custom did not begin to shift to childhood until reforms
set in place by Pope St. Pius X began to take hold in the
1920s. If you are going to a First Communion, you can
give thanks that the table of the Lord is today open so
much more lavishly than before.

HUMOR DNA...
Jezuita i franciszkanin jedzą razem piątkowy postny
obiad. Na półmisku leżą dwa kawałlki ryby – jeden duży,
drugi bardzo mały. Jezuita bierze sobie duży kawałek, a
franciszkanowi nakłada mniejszy.
- Nie najlepiej to świadczy o jezuitach - mówi
franciszkanin.
- A dlaczegóżby? – dopytuje się jezuita.
- Nas uczono świętego ubóstwa. Gdymy to ja nakładał
rybę, sobie nałożyłbym mniejszy kawałek, a Tobie
dałbym większy.
- Więc o co chodzi? – odpowiada bez mrugnięcia oka
jezuita.
III NIEDZIELA WIELKANOCNA
CZYTANIA NIEDZIELNE
Dzieci moje, piszę wam to dlatego, żebyście nie
grzeszyli. Jeśliby nawet ktoś zgrzeszył, mamy Rzecznika
wobec Ojca - Jezusa Chrystusa sprawiedliwego. On
bowiem jest ofiarą przebłagalną za nasze grzechy i nie
tylko za nasze, lecz również za grzechy całego świata. Po
tym zaś poznajemy, że Go znamy, jeżeli zachowujemy
Jego przykazania. Kto mówi: Znam Go, a nie zachowuje
Jego przykazań, ten jest kłamcą i nie ma w nim prawdy.
Kto zaś zachowuje Jego naukę, w tym naprawdę miłość
Boża jest doskonała. 1 J 2,1-5a
Uczniowie opowiadali, co ich spotkało w drodze, i jak
poznali Jezusa przy łamaniu chleba. A gdy rozmawiali o
tym, On sam stanął pośród nich i rzekł do nich: Pokój
wam! Zatrwożonym i wylękłym zdawało się, że widzą
ducha. Lecz On rzekł do nich: Czemu jesteście zmieszani i
dlaczego wątpliwości budzą się w waszych sercach?
Popatrzcie na moje ręce i nogi: to Ja jestem. Dotknijcie
się Mnie i przekonajcie: duch nie ma ciała ani kości, jak
widzicie, że Ja mam. Przy tych słowach pokazał im swoje
ręce i nogi. Lecz gdy oni z radości jeszcze nie wierzyli i
pełni byli zdumienia, rzekł do nich: Macie tu coś do
jedzenia? Oni podali Mu kawałek pieczonej ryby. Wziął i
jadł wobec nich. Potem rzekł do nich: To właśnie
znaczyły słowa, które mówiłem do was, gdy byłem jeszcze
z wami: Musi się wypełnić wszystko, co napisane jest o
Mnie w Prawie Mojżesza, u Proroków i w Psalmach.
Wtedy oświecił ich umysły, aby rozumieli Pisma, i rzekł
do nich: Tak jest napisane: Mesjasz będzie cierpiał i
trzeciego dnia zmartwychwstanie, w imię Jego głoszone
będzie nawrócenie i odpuszczenie grzechów wszystkim
narodom, począwszy od Jerozolimy. Wy jesteście
świadkami tego. Łk 24, 35-48
REFLEKSJA NA TEMAT CZYTAŃ
Kiedy zmartwychwstały Chrystus stanął pośrodku
Apostołów, „wylękłym zdawało się, że widzą ducha”.
Dopiero posiłek, który spożyli razem z Panem Jezusem,
utwierdził ich w przekonaniu, że On rzeczywiście żyje.
Wierzymy w zmartwychwstanie ciał. Nie tylko dusza, ale
także nasze ciało, przemienione, będzie uczestniczyć
w wieczności Boga. Prawda o zmartwychwstaniu
w Chrystusie otwiera przed nami niezwykłą perspektywę.
Jesteśmy zaproszeni, aby w Bogu i z Bogiem radować się
na wieki. Każda Eucharystia jest zapowiedzią i zadatkiem
nowego życia, które w pełni objawi się w dniu naszego
zmartwychwstania.

LECTURAS DE HOY
Primera lectura - Pedro da testimonio a la gente de que Jesús
ha sido glorificado y deberán reformar sus vidas (Hechos 3:13
-15, 17-19).
Salmo - En ti, Señor, confío. Aleluya (Salmo 4).
Segunda lectura - Jesucristo intercede ante el Padre por
nuestos pecados (1 Juan 2:1-5a).
Evangelio - Jesús se aparece a los discípulos y los envía a
predicar la penitencia para el perdón de los pecados (Lucas
24:35-48).
CUMPLIMIENTO
Es interesante que durante el tiempo de Pascua,
cuando no escuchamos la lectura del Antiguo Testamento,
se vuelve tan importante. Esto es particularmente cierto
hoy. El discurso de Pedro comienza con una fórmula de
oración familiar a los judíos: “El Dios de
Abraham...” (Hechos 3:13). Asimismo contiene las
poderosas frases “Santo y Justo” y “boca de todos los
profetas” (3:14, 18). Pedro estaba declarando sin lugar a
dudas que la ley, los salmos y los profetas se habían
cumplido en Cristo. Esto se ve reforzado por el mismo
Jesús en el pasaje del Evangelio, cuando dice que todo en
la Escritura (para los primeros cristianos “la Escritura”
era lo que hoy llamamos el Antiguo Testamento) tenía
que cumplirse. Por encima de todo, Jesús y Pedro hacen
hincapié en que somos testigos de todo esto, y somos
enviados a dar testimonio en el mundo. La palabra missa
en latín, significa “enviado” (como “misión”). Al salir de
la misa de hoy, recordemos ser testigos de todo lo que se
ha cumplido en Cristo resucitado.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
El lenguaje es una herramienta de comunicación no
solo entre nosotros mismos, sino con Diosito. Nací en
EE.UU. pero mi lengua materna es el español, lo aprendí
en la cuna y lo usábamos en casa. También aprendí ingles
en la escuela. Hay quienes me preguntan cual idioma uso
para hablar con Dios. Esta pregunta reconoce que el ser
humano debe usar un lenguaje humano para rezar.
Esta semana celebramos el Día del Idioma para
festejar la herencia que tenemos en nuestra lengua
castellana. Festejamos el 23 de abril, fecha en que falleció
Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra (1547–1616) autor de
Don Quijote de la Mancha. Este autor español fue el que
enriqueció y ayudo a dar forma gramática a la lengua
española.
Hay que saber que el castellano que llegó a nuestro
continente tiene una larga y rica historia, ya que es una
mezcla del latín, dialectos ibéricos y el árabe. Una vez en
América el español tomó características y vocabulario
indígena, y ahora en EE.UU. se está renovando con
anglicismos. Y es en este idioma que yo y muchos latinos
hablamos con Diosito.
