OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
NOVEMBER 24, 2013
I rejoiced because they said to me, “We will go up to the
house of the LORD.”
REDEFINING KINGSHIP
The last Sunday of the Church’s liturgical year is
dedicated to Christ, our King. In the first reading,
from the second book of Samuel, we meet Jesus’
ancestor David, the greatest king of Israel. This
passage describes a glorious monarch who is acclaimed by all the tribes of Israel. He is called
both a “shepherd” and a “commander.” The second reading,
from Paul’s Letter to the Colossians, also contains glorious
language, describing Christ as “the firstborn of all creation.”
Only at the end of this passage do we hear a hint of the paradox
we will meet in today’s Gospel: Christ the King makes “peace
by the blood of his cross.”
In Luke’s Gospel, we confront the stark reality of Christ’s kingship. Here is our king, hanging on a cross, jeered, taunted, berated by a common criminal. This king looks defeated and
powerless. Yet he demonstrates how absolute his power is. His
death is truly for the salvation of all, one person at a time, starting with the “Good Thief,” and continuing through the ages to
us today.
This week’s second collection is designated for Catholic
Campaign for Human Development.
Next week’s second collection is for Diocesan Obligations.
SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING
This Sunday, Nov., 24th is the Solemnity of Christ the King
and the last Sunday of the liturgical year. Please join us for
exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 11:00am Mass
and for the conclusion with special devotions at 3:00pm. This
special day provides us an opportunity to spend a few minutes
before the Blessed Sacrament in a spirit of gratitude for received graces.
We ask all parish organizations to attend at their designated
times (see last week’s bulletin) and also parishioners to participate anytime, but especially for 3:00pm devotions.

Dear Parishioners, Friends and Members of all Parish and School Organizations and Ministries,
It is with a profound gratitude that I acknowledge your generous gifts on the occasion of my 20th anniversary as Pastor and Headmaster of St. Joseph Parish and School.
I was impressed with the number of people attending our annual Parish Thanksgiving dinner, but I did not suspect a thing. I was
speechless when you presented me with beautiful flowers, a delicious cake and gifts. I was even more stunned when I later opened
the gift bag and found so many things that will make my life easier. Thank you very much for the GPS with which I will find my
way around much faster. Thank you for the iPhone with all the accessories including a car charger, belt clip, case, and even protection against damage. I’m sure that the key chain that beeps when I move away from the phone will get its moneys worth. You even
thought about an extra $500 for the data plan that I will have to purchase for the iPhone. Your very generous check for over
$1,500 is also very much appreciated.
I am grateful for all these, but most of all it warmed my heart that you remembered this anniversary in such a special way. It feels
good to know that you noticed and appreciated my work and love for this parish and school. A kind word and a thank you can give
a person renewed strength to move forward and you did just that. Especially after so many years of struggles to get the gym and
parish center project under way. There were times that I was ready to give up, but you showed me that the effort was worth it. And
for this uplifting feeling, I am most grateful. I particularly would like to thank Jane Gogolinski for the beautiful flower arrangement,
to Orawa Bakery for the tasty cake, to those who purchased the gifts and the Hospitality Committee for such a wonderful evening of
friendship in a spirit of Thanksgiving for all the graces we receive. Thank you for sharing this special anniversary with me.
God Bless You! Msgr. Tony
OPŁATKI - CHRISTMAS WAFERS
The Christmas wafers were first associated with the Nativity
scenery and constitute an essential element of the family
Christmas vigil supper. This custom is celebrated by millions of
people and is continually growing because it symbolizes the
Blessed Sacrament and Jesus who was born in Bethlehem.
Oplatki will be blessed on the Vigil of Christ the King, Saturday, Nov. 23rd after 4:00pm Mass. Oplatki will be available in
the sacristy at $3.00 per packet.

the foundation.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
UROCZYSTOŚĆ JEZUSA CHRYSTUSA,
KRÓLA WSZECHŚWIATA
24 listopada 2013
Krótki, ale bardzo bogaty w treść fragment
Ewangelii na Uroczystość Chrystusa Króla,
stanowi wspaniałe zamknięcie i streszczenie całej
Ewangelii Łukasza. Opowiadanie o przebaczeniu
i zbawieniu skruszonego łotra w praktyczny
i rzeczywisty sposób ilustruje to, co Jezus głosił
przez całe swe życie. Stanowi też najautentyczniejszy
komentarz, jak należy rozumieć Jego królewską godność.
Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na
Catholic Campain for Human Developement.

samochodową, zaczepem do paska itp.
iPhone'a.
Dziękuję i niech Was Bóg błogosławi! Ks. Antoni
