Guess what, each Steward has been given a different plan! So, stop comparing yourself to others. Don’t let envy and jealousy enter your life. Be thankful for the gifts God has given you and generously share them with others. SANCTUARY VOTIVE CANDLES January 15 through January 21 MAIN ALTAR Candle I God’s blessings for a safe voyage for Jillian Given by her loving family SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME January 15, 2017 I will make you a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. - Isaiah 49:6b THREE MISSIONS Today we begin with one of the “servant songs” from the book of Isaiah, a song prophetic of Jesus’ ministry of service. Isaiah’s mission is not only to bring back the children of Jacob to gather in Israel; it is also to be “a light to the nations”. Jesus Christ, as servant, will be the fulfillment of the ancient prophecy and the basis of the new. This Sunday we begin a series of readings from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Here Paul is identified by his mission: he is an apostle of Jesus Christ. The church at Corinth to whom he addresses this letter is also identified: it is part of the universal church of God. The Corinthians are called to holiness, as are all Christians. Though the feast of the Baptism of the Lord was celebrated last Monday, today’s Gospel also alludes to the importance of that event. The reading emphasizes that Jesus “outranks” John: his baptism in the Spirit will eradicate sin. Jesus accepts John’s baptism, even though it is he himself who is the Lamb of God. I-25 Club Winner for 17th week #189—Fred Kitka The second collection this week is for the Catholic University of America. Please be generous to make a difference in the life of these students. Christopher Siuzdak, a parishioner, is currently a student and Msgr. Czarnecki is an alumnus of CUA. The 44th anniversary of Roe v Wade finds countless people deeply wounded physically, emotionally and spiritually by this decision. Suggested personal and communal practices: * Spend some special time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, or in your home. *Attend daily Mass and offer it for an end to abortion and an increased respect for human life * Pray the rosary * Pray for those who have been wounded by abortion, that they may experience God‘s mercy and healing Please refer to Bishop McManus‘ letter which is enclosed. REFLECTIONS We just ended the Christmas season and began the Ordinary time of the Liturgical Year. Christmas is more than shepherds, Magi, family, gifts and Santa. Christmas is about Emmanuel, „God is with Us the message of the first Christmas. This message should linger in our hearts and minds throughout the year. To keep close to God and live the Christmas Spirit, perhaps we could begin with a scripture reading—one chapter per day. Scripture readings give us an insight into the mind of God. People who read Scripture stay closer to God and make better decisions in life. -Rev. Msgr. I my podczas każdej Eucharystii słyszymy słowa „Oto Baranek Boży, który gładzi grzechy świata”. Patrzymy na Hostię, wiedząc, że to Jezus. Obyśmy umieli sercem zobaczyć i rozpoznać w Nim naszego jedynego Pana i Zbawiciela. DZIEŃ MARTIN’A LUTHER KING JR. Z wiązka z obchodami dnia Matrin’a Luther Kung Day, zarówno szkoła jak i biuro parafialne w poniedziałek, 16 stycznia będą nieczynne Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli będzie przeznaczona na The Catholic Univercity of America. Page 5 DZIEŃ MODLITWY I POKUTY W poniedziałek, 23 stycznia będziemy obchodzili dzień modlitwy w intencji wszystkich zranionych fizycznie, emocjonalnie i duchowo, poprzez grzechy przeciwko życiu. Boże Narodzenie to przede wszystkim Emmanuel, czyli „Bóg z nami” To przesłanie powinno zostać w naszych sercach i umysłach przez cały rok. Aby być ciągle blisko Boga i żyć duchem Bożego Narodzenia warto wracać do Słowa Bożego. Wystarczy jeden rozdział Pisma Świętego Dziennie. To pozwoli nam być nieustannie blisko Niego i poznawać Go. W naszej parafi już wkrótce rozpoczną się spotkania biblijne. Więcej informacji w nasepnych biuletynach. THE FUND FOR ST.
