Ewa JENDRZEJCZAK ESTIMATING THE FREQUENCY OF SEMI-DROUGHT AND EXTREMELY WET WEATHER IN MAY IN SELECTED LOCALITIES IN POLAND Key words: semi-drought, classification of weather conditions Summary Frequency of semi-droughts and extremely wet weather events were analysed based on rainfall and mean air temperature recorded in May from 1971 to 2000 in 16 meteorological stations. Weather classification used in the present study showed that 30 % of all records pointed to the occurrence of semi-drought of various kind and intensity observed mainly in Zielona Góra, Poznań, Wrocław and Toruń. Irrespective of the region, similar values of meteorological elements characterized the weather during semi-drought events. Extremely wet months constituted about 6 % of records. In May extremely wet weather was observed in different regions of the country, most frequently in seaside (Koszalin) and southern part of Poland (Rzeszów, Katowice and Kraków).
