ADVENT HEALING MASS
With Advent soon at its middle point, you are invited
for an evening of prayer, coupled with a Healing Mass
and an opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. When? Friday, December 16th, 2011 in the
lower church. Time? 7:00 PM - 9:30PM. The evening of
prayer will be conducted by Father Claudio Antecini, pastor of Our Lady of the Visitation Parish in Red Hook, NY.
Father Claudio is a member of a Koinonia of St. John
the Baptist. Koinonia of St. John the Baptist has its roots
in Italy and it is a Catholic community of priests, religious, and lay members devoted to bringing people to
Jesus in a spirit of a New Evangelization.

ROMAN MISSALS
We have purchased four new Roman Missals for the
upper & lower churches to conform to the new translation
of the Mass that began on the previous Sunday. A large
version of the missal will remain on the altar and a
smaller one will remain on the lectern in front of the presider’s chair. We would like to thank & acknowledge four

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Advent calendars appear now in many homes, and new
-fangled formats are even available on line. Children have
fun opening the doors and windows keyed to the days
counting down to Christmas. Behind each door is a
picture related to the Christmas mystery, perhaps a
scripture verse or saying, but more and more these days
something totally unconnected to religious life, like a
small toy or a chocolate treat, appears instead. The
Advent calendar is not very old as traditions go. We can
trace it back to German-speaking Christians, both
Protestant and Catholic. Lutherans might have originated
the custom by placing chalk marks on doors starting
December 1, lighting candles every day, or placing a new
religious picture on the wall each day during Advent. The
oldest known hand-made calendar goes back to 1851, and
the first printed ones appeared in 1908 in Germany with
Bible verses behind the doors. By far the most interesting
calendar is a building, the town hall (Rathaus) of
Gengenbach in Germany’s Black Forest. Every year the
townspeople invite an illustrator of children’s books to
create twenty-four paintings or motifs for each of the
twenty-four main windows of the building. Every night
the people gather to see a new window opened and
illuminated.
Very few commercial Advent calendars pay much
attention to the core values of our liturgical calendar: the
pivotal place of Sunday, the importance of Advent feasts
like Saint Lucy and Saint Nicholas, and the clear shift in
tone on December 17 from Advent longing and
preparation toward imminent hope in Christ’s coming.
That kind of creativity is left up to you!
FEAST OF FAITH
Watching for Christ’s Coming
In the season of Advent, we look to the coming of
Christ at the end of time, and we prepare ourselves to
celebrate his first coming among us at Christmas.
Remembrance of the past is combined with preparation
for the future. Memory meets action.
In a certain sense, the Mass is an Advent prayer. At the
Last Supper, Jesus did not tell his disciples, “Never forget
what I did for you.” Instead, he said, “Do this in
remembrance of me.” He calls us to remember by doing,
to combine memory with action. In the celebration of the
Eucharist, remembering and doing become one. Jesus is
as present in our midst as he was in that upper room,
breaking the bread and sharing the cup; but it is a new
kind of presence, seen only with the eyes of faith. In the
heavenly liturgy, there will be no need of sacraments, for
there, “celebration is wholly communion and
feast” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1136). Here,
things are different. We have only glimpses and flashes of
the beauty that is yet to be. And yet, in the liturgy, we
truly participate in the heavenly liturgy. The Mass is our
foretaste of the joys of heaven.

Druga Niedziela Adwentu 2011
Umiłowani, niech to jedno nie będzie dla was tajne, że
jeden dzień u Pana jest jak tysiąc lat, a tysiąc lat jak jeden
dzień. Nie zwleka Pan z wypełnieniem obietnicy - bo
niektórzy są przekonani, że Pan zwleka - ale On jest
cierpliwy w stosunku do was. Nie chce bowiem
niektórych zgubić, ale wszystkich doprowadzić do
nawrócenia. Jak złodziej zaś przyjdzie dzień Pański, w
którym niebo ze świstem przeminie, gwiazdy się w ogniu
rozsypią, a ziemia i dzieła na niej zostaną znalezione.
Skoro to wszystko w ten sposób ulegnie zagładzie, to
jakimi winniście być wy w świętym postępowaniu i
pobożności, gdy oczekujecie i staracie się przyśpieszyć
przyjście dnia Bożego, który sprawi, że niebo zapalone
pójdzie na zagładę, a gwiazdy w ogniu się rozsypią.
Oczekujemy jednak, według obietnicy, nowego nieba i
nowej ziemi, w których będzie mieszkała sprawiedliwość.
Dlatego, umiłowani, oczekując tego, starajcie się, aby /
On/ was zastał bez plamy i skazy - w pokoju.
2 Piotr 3,8-14
Początek Ewangelii o Jezusie Chrystusie, Synu
Bożym. Jak jest napisane u proroka Izajasza: Oto Ja
posyłam wysłańca mego przed Tobą; on przygotuje drogę
Twoją. Głos wołającego na pustyni: Przygotujcie drogę
Panu, Jemu prostujcie ścieżki. Wystąpił Jan Chrzciciel na
pustyni i głosił chrzest nawrócenia na odpuszczenie
grzechów. Ciągnęła do niego cała judzka kraina oraz
wszyscy mieszkańcy Jerozolimy i przyjmowali od niego
chrzest w rzece Jordan, wyznając /przy tym/ swe grzechy.
Jan nosił odzienie z sierści wielbłądziej i pas skórzany
około bioder, a żywił się szarańczą i miodem leśnym. I
tak głosił: Idzie za mną mocniejszy ode mnie, a ja nie
jestem godzien, aby się schylić i rozwiązać rzemyk u Jego
sandałów. Ja chrzciłem was wodą, On zaś chrzcić was
będzie Duchem Świętym.
Mk 1:1-8
REFLEKSJA...
Św. Jan Chrzciciel to jedna z najważniejszych postaci
biblijnych w czasie Adwentu. Wypełnił on bardzo
szczególną misję przygotowania Izraela na pierwsze
przyjście Syna Bożego na ziemię. Dzisiaj natomiast jego
słowa pobudzają nas do czujności w oczekiwaniu na
pełne objawienie królestwa Bożego podczas powtórnego
przyjścia Pana. Wezwanie do nawrócenia nie ma w nas
budzić lęku – Bóg nie jest tyranem, który chciałby nam
w czymś zagrozić lub pozbawić życiowych radości.
Przeciwnie, dzisiejsze słowo objawia Boga jako Tego,
który jest łagodnym pasterzem owiec i którego przyjście
niesie pocieszenie udręczonym. Nawrócenie oznacza
przygotowanie na przyjęcie w swoim sercu Boga, który
wyzwala nas od wszelkiego fałszu i leczy z
wewnętrznego rozdarcia, będącego następstwem
grzechu.

BAUTISOS:
LARGA ESPERA
A medida que transcurren los domingos de Adviento
el foco de las lecturas cambia de la venida final del Señor
a su histórico nacimiento. Las lecturas de hoy mezclan
ambos. Isaías, desilusionado de los reyes de sus tiempos,
imagina al rey ideal que gobernará con la aprobación de
Dios y será guiado por la divina sabiduría. Por siglos el
pueblo judío anticipó la llegada de ese Mesías, quien
inauguraría una era de gracia cuando todo el mundo
finalmente viviría en justicia y paz.
Luego de siglos de creciente expectativa, la
predicación de Juan Bautista sobre la inminente llegada
del Mesías no hizo más que provocar un intenso interés.
El mensaje del Bautista sobre “el que viene” (Mateo 3:11)
deja claro que Jesús, de hecho, es aquel esperado por
largo tiempo que inaugura la nueva era predicha por
Isaías y todos los profetas.

CELEBRACIONES PARROQUIAL EN DICIEMBRE
En Diciembre la comunidad hispana tendrá varias
celebraciones tales como:
1. A partir del sábado, 3 de Diciembre, tendremos eventos
religiosos como el rezo del santo rosario, rezo de la santa
novena y misa. Todo se realizará en la parte atrás de las iglesia
(St. Joseph House), comenzando a las 7:30PM. Cada noche
estará dedicada a orar por las familias que con anticipacion se
han registrado en nuestro calendario de actividades. Tambien
habrán sacerdotes para confesar los dias jueves y vienes.
2. El dia domingo, 11 de diciembre, tendrémos la misa a las
7:30PM con mariachis, café y aguape.
3. El dia lunes, 12 de diciembre, a las 5:00AM, habrá la
serenata a la virgen, seguida por un cafe y antojitos mejicanos.
El mismo dia, a las 7:30PM, se celebrará la solemne misa en
HONOR A LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE, seguida por la
procesión alrededor del blóque. Esto se seguirá con mariaches y
comida.
4. El dia viernes, 16 de diciembre, comenzaremos las
tradicionales posadas/novenas de Navidad. Estarán cantando el
coro de niños. Será en el baseman de la escuela a partir de las
7:00PM.
Primera lectura - Isaías ruega por el retorno del Señor
(Isaías 63:16-17, 19; 64:2-7).
Salmo - Señor, Dios nuestro, restáuranos que brille tu
rostro y nos salve (Salmo 80 [79]).
Segunda lectura - Pablo está agradecido por las
bendiciones que los corintios han recibido debido a su fe
en Jesús (1 Corintios 1:3-9).
Evangelio - Jesús dice a los discípulos que estén siempre
alerta a la llegada del tiempo designado
(Marcos 13:33-37).
COMO UN NIÑO
Alguien que aspira a recibir la gracia de Dios tiene que
ser puro, con un corazón tan inocente como el de un niño.
