We always appreciate whatever amount you can contribute to this parish fundraiser, But, in order to participate in the monthly drawing, the minimum contribution is
$5.00. For amounts less than $5, the money will be included in the drawing pot, but your (green) envelope will
not be included in the drawing.
The sick members of our community are invited to a
parish celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of
the Sick on Sunday, October 19th, at a 3:00PM Mass,
followed by a social at St. Joseph Center. The entrance
from Newkirk Avenue, which is wheelchair accessible,
will be open for the occasion.
Parishioners who wish to pray with and for the sick,
but are not necessarily in need of the Sacrament, are also
encouraged to attend the Eucharist.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION
The School of Evangelization of the Diocese of
Brooklyn has announced their new online adult faith formation site www.bqonlineformation.org.
They have chosen My Catholic Faith Delivered, a
nationwide leader which specializes in providing adults
with a variety of enrichment opportunities from the comfort of their homes. Flyers with additional information
can be found on the table in the back of church.

COME TO THE FEAST
SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
“On this mountain, the Lord of hosts / will provide
for all peoples / a feast of rich food and choice wines”
(Isaiah 25:6). That’s what Isaiah tells us today. God is
putting together a huge party for “all peoples,” to “wipe
away / the tears from every face” (Isaiah 25:8).
And what does Jesus tell us? The reign of God, he
says, “may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast
for his son” (Matthew 22:2). When the guests didn’t
come, the king had his servants go out “into the main
roads and invite to the feast whomever you find”
(Matthew 22:9). We are called to deliver that invitation.
One of the themes woven into today’s liturgy is that
of divine generosity. Asleep to reality, people often think
they have “earned” what they have. In our better
moments, though, we know that all our gifts - even the
spiritual gifts - come through God’s generosity. Our
vocation is to invite people, to remind them the tickets
aren’t for sale. We can only show up and say thank you.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The confessional is a familiar setting in literature and
drama. Everyone from Doestoevsky and Shakespeare
down the line to Seinfeld has used the sacrament to tragic
or comic effect or to reveal aspects of character otherwise
hidden. All of this theater, from world classics to
slapstick, has had a numbing effect on our own
expectations, and has skewed how the culture looks at us
and our struggle with sin and forgiveness, hope and
healing.
Yet the artists are on to something. The reconciliation
chapel is a place where hearts are laid bare, where
honesty is the watchword, and people confess their
deepest needs. It is also a place of rebirth, or at least
realignment. It is, like the baptismal font, a place where
something dies, and where something else is born. Today,
although literature has barely caught up, the place is
usually not the dark and gloomy cabinet of old; rather it is
a chapel that speaks of peace, serenity, and the comfort of
a welcome home. People in one parish were astonished
recently to see their children skipping with delight as they
left the place of their first confession. We have to wait a
bit for world literature to catch up with this reality, but at
least we can experience the joy of penance, the thrill of a
new beginning, the assurance of God’s love.

wybawi; oto Pan, w którym złożyliśmy naszą ufność:

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Przypowieść o zaproszonych na ucztę może początkowo
dziwić, a nawet irytować. Jest w niej mowa o królu, który
zaprasza na ucztę ludzi wziętych prosto z ulicy, gdyż ci,
których najpierw zaprosił, zlekceważyli go i nie chcieli
przyjść. Do tego miejsca wszystko jest zrozumiałe: teraz
wszyscy są zaproszeni - niezależnie od pochodzenia i
godności. Trudno jednak pojąć, dlaczego król kazał
wyrzucić "na zewnątrz w ciemności" człowieka nie
ubranego w strój weselny? Czyż nie powinien był liczyć się
z tym, że ludzie napotkani na rozstajnych drogach raczej nie
będą odświętnie ubrani, przygotowani do wprowadzenia na
salony? Przypowieść chce jednak za pomocą tego
drastycznego obrazu podkreślić, przestrzec, że nie wystarczy
przyjść na ucztę, ale że trzeba jeszcze w niej w pełni
uczestniczyć. Nieoczekiwany dar, jakim jest zaproszenie na
ucztę, trzeba przyjąć i odnieść się do niego z całą powagą.
Cóż to za dar, który stanowi dla mnie aż takie wyzwanie?
Jakiż to dar, poprzez który Bóg - Obdarowujący - aż tyle ode
mnie wymaga? Do czego zaprasza mnie Bóg? Czym chce
mnie obdarować? Niech te pytania towarzyszą nam na
naszych drogach, podczas niedzielnej Mszy św. i w tych
wszystkich chwilach wytchnienia, które podaruje nam dziś
Bóg.

A Jezus znowu w przypowieściach mówił do nich:
"Królestwo niebieskie podobne jest do króla, który
wyprawił ucztę weselną swemu synowi. Posłał więc swoje
sługi, żeby zaproszonych zwołali na ucztę, lecz ci nie
chcieli przyjść. Posłał jeszcze raz inne sługi z poleceniem:
"Powiedzcie zaproszonym: Oto przygotowałem moją
ucztę: woły i tuczne zwierzęta pobite i wszystko jest
gotowe. Przyjdźcie na ucztę!" Lecz oni zlekceważyli to i
poszli: jeden na swoje pole, drugi do swego kupiectwa, a
inni pochwycili jego sługi i znieważywszy [ich],
pozabijali. Na to król uniósł się gniewem. Posłał swe
wojska i kazał wytracić owych zabójców, a miasto ich
spalić. Wtedy rzekł swoim sługom: "Uczta wprawdzie jest
gotowa, lecz zaproszeni nie byli jej godni. Idźcie więc na
rozstajne drogi i zaproście na ucztę wszystkich, których
spotkacie". Słudzy ci wyszli na drogi i sprowadzili
wszystkich, których napotkali: złych i dobrych. I sala
zapełniła się biesiadnikami. Wszedł król, żeby się
przypatrzyć biesiadnikom, i
zauważył tam człowieka, nie
ubranego w strój weselny.
Rzekł
do
niego:
"Przyjacielu, jakże tu
wszedłeś nie mając stroju
weselnego?" Lecz on
oniemiał. Wtedy król rzekł
sługom: "Zwiążcie mu ręce i
nogi i wyrzućcie go na
zewnątrz, w ciemności! Tam
będzie płacz i zgrzytanie
zębów". Bo wielu jest
powołanych, lecz mało
wybranych".Mateusz 22:1-14

VENGAN A LA FIESTA
“El Señor de los Ejércitos preparará para todos los
pueblos en este cerro, una comida con jugosos asados y
buenos vinos” (Isaías 25:6). Esto es lo que Isaías nos dice
hoy. Dios está organizando una inmensa fiesta para
“todos los pueblos”, para “enjugar las lágrimas de todos
los rostros”.
¿Y qué es lo que Jesús nos dice? “El reino de Dios”, él
dice, es como “lo que le sucedió a un rey que celebró las
bodas de su hijo” (Mateo 22:2). Cuando los invitados no
acudieron, el rey mandó a sus sirvientes a que fueran “a
las esquinas de las calles y conviden a la boda a todos los
que encuentren” (Mateo 22:9). Nosotros somos llamados
a distribuir esta invitación.
Uno de los temas entrelazado con la liturgia de hoy es
el referente a la generosidad divina. Ausente de la
realidad, la gente a menudo asume que ha “ganado” lo
que tiene. En nuestros mejores momentos, sin embargo,
somos conscientes de que todos nuestros dones,
incluyendo los espirituales, provienen de la generosidad
de Dios. Nuestra misión es invitar a la gente, recordarles
que las entradas no están a la venta. Lo único que
podemos hacer es acudir y dar las gracias.
