Stewardship Note: “My child, remember that you received
what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise
received what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas
you are tormented. Moreover, between us and you a great
chasm is established. . . “ When God created the world He
gave it to all mankind for us to enjoy. However, over the years
we have created a chasm between those who have great gifts
and those who do not. In today’s Gospel we see that with our
own generosity we must bridge that gap between those who
have much and those who have little or we may find ourselves
on the wrong side of the chasm in the next life.

LOOKING BEYOND OURSELVES
The message found in today’s
readings is an oft-told story. Citizen
Kane, Daddy Warbucks, and King
Midas are only a few of the familiar
fictional characters who thought
enormous wealth could buy happiness and fulfillment. Daddy Warbucks admitted stepping on a few people in his climb to the
top. Kane tried to buy the printed word and stardom for his
young wife, while King Midas conjured immense wealth and
tragedy by his very touch.
We learn clearly in today’s readings that none of this is
really possible. True happiness comes from caring for someone
other than ourselves. It comes from the pursuit of the virtues
Paul described to Timothy: faith, love, gentleness, godliness,
righteousness, and endurance. The Gospel reminds us that we
dare not ignore the needs of others, acting as though we don’t
notice their suffering. God’s call to us is much too clear to disregard for even one more day.
The second collection this week is
for the Fall Appeal for Catholic Schools.
Next weekend’s second collection is designated
for Higher Utility and Energy Costs.

Holy Rosary Sodality-The annual Mass for the deceased
members of the Holy Rosary Sodality will be held on Sun., Oct.
2nd at the 8:15am Mass with the installation of new officers.
The annual meeting with a continental breakfast in the school
cafeteria will follow. Members please wear your medals to
Mass and join us for the meeting.

JUBILEE FOR CATECHISTS
Amos castigates religious people who, “comfortably complacent” ignore the unfolding collapse of culture, nation, and religion. In Jesus’ parable, such complacency becomes the rich man’s
undoing. He neither hurt nor harmed Lazarus, neither denied him
leftovers nor ordered him removed. That is Jesus’ devastating
point. The rich man did nothing wrong to Lazarus; he just did
nothing at all good for him. Only in death, separated by “a great
chasm”, could the rich man finally see Lazarus, whom he had
failed to see in life, right before his eyes. Like the rich man’s
“five brothers still in my father’s house”, we who are alive in the
Church still have time to see that same Someone, Jesus, lying
neglected right at our door—and time to do something. Who,
specifically, concretely, practically, is Lazarus in my life? What
can I do for that Jesus-in-the-flesh during this Jubilee Year of
Mercy?
St. Francis of Assisi - we celebrate his Feast Day on October
4th. The founder of the Franciscan order of the Catholic
Church, is remembered for his generosity to the poor and his
willingness to minister to the lepers and people in need especially the sick. However, many people recall his love of animals
and nature. Therefore, many educators, caregivers and animal
rights organizations use this day as an opportunity to teach children about endangered or abused animals. He was declared a
Saint in 1228. St. Francis of Assisi left a long legacy of service,
kindness and love even for animals. In this “Year of Mercy”
may we recognize this great saint by performing good deeds
especially to those who expect and appreciate a helping hand or
a visit. Students of SJS will honor St. Francis of Assisi by a
special service prayer during the day and blessing of animals in
the afternoon. Therefore, on Tues., Oct. 4th, we ask parents to
bring your children’s pet at 2:30pm to the school parking lot
for this special blessing.
FRIENDS OF JOHN PAUL II FOUNDATION
On Saturday, October 1st, the Washington, DC Chapter of the
Friends of John Paul II Foundation will celebrate their annual
event “Wadowice-on-the Potomac” to continue the legacy of
the papacy of St. John Paul II and this Holy Man’s life and
work. Established in 1981 by the Holy Father, the Foundation
supports the goals and documentation of His Papacy.
We are pleased that this year’s honoree will be our own
Monsignor Anthony Czarnecki, Rector of our Basilica and
Headmaster of St. Joseph School. Congratulations to Monsignor for this special recognition.
POLISH ORGANIST IN CONCERT
A free concert, open to the public featuring Polish Organist,
Miroslawa Cieslak on the new pipe organ at St. Hedwig’s
Church, Southbridge will be held on Friday, Sept., 30th at
7:00pm. Ms. Cieslak is a world class musician having studied
and performed in her native Poland as well as in Germany and
the Netherlands. The former Music Director at our Basilica,
she will delight you with early Italian organ pieces as well as
songs from Poland with guest performers singing in Polish.
We invite everyone for this hour-long-concert to enjoy the
Polish Heritage of St. John Paul II Parish presented by an international Polish musician and scholar.
NEEDED ASSISTANCE
We kindly appeal to our parishioners and friends for assistance for a SJS family whose children may not be able to continue their Catholic school education because of unexpected
circumstances at home. As a caring parish community, it is vital
that we step forward to help children in distress by our deeds of
kindness. Your prayers and donations are deeply appreciated
and may be considered as a corporal act of goodness in this
“Year of Mercy”.
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
We invite parishioners and friends to join us on Wednesday,
Sept. 28th at 7:00pm for the Novena and Devotion to out Patron. As we live in a stressful time with many world wide conflicts, this is a perfect time through the intercession of St. Joseph to ask for security and protection from evil which seems to
lurk just around every corner of our country.
You may note your personal needs on the petition slips available in the Chapel. Usually petitions are accompanied by good
deeds, prayers during the week and participation in the Novena
and Mass on Wednesday and some people include offerings as
an expression of personal sacrifice. Knights of Columbus will
assist in carrying our Patron’s statue into the sanctuary.
Friday Night Bingo - on Sept. 30th why not be part of our
weekly gamers who gather at the St. Joseph School cafeteria for
a evening of camaraderie and the excitement of winning cash
prizes. Doors open at 5:00pm and games begin at 6:45pm.
This week our brother Knights of Columbus will be in attendance to assist our players. Proceeds benefit the parish.

potrzebujących, nie przekroczymy
teraz, nie zdołamy go pokonać już nigdy. Spotkanie z Jezusem ma
pogłębić naszą wrażliwość na ubogich, gdyż to ich uczynił Bóg dla
nas przewodnikami w drodze na łono Abrahama.

JUBILEUSZOWY ROK MIŁOSIERDZIA
Prorok Amos karci ludzi religijnych, którzy wygodnie „spoczęli na
laurach” kompletnie ignorując upadek kultury, narodu i religii.
W przypowieści Jezusa, takie samozadowolenie staje się przyczyną
zguby bogacza. On nie rani Łazarza ani mu nie szkodzi. Nie
odmawia mu resztek ani też nie nakazuje, aby go usunięto. Bogacz
nie zrobił nic złego Łazarzowi. On po prostu nie zrobił w ogóle nic
dla niego. Dopiero po śmierci, kiedy oddzieliła ich wielka przepaść,
bogacz wreszcie spostrzegł Łazarza, którego nie udało mu się
dostrzec za życia, mimo że miał go tuż przed oczami. Podobnie jak
pięciu braci bogacza, wciąż pozostających na ziemi, my żyjący
w Kościele ciągle mamy jeszcze czas, aby zobaczyć, że ktoś, „leży
zaniedbany” tuż przy naszych drzwiach. Mamy czas, aby coś zrobić.
Kto konkretnie, jest Łazarzem w moim życiu? Co mogę zrobić
w Roku Miłosierdzia dla Jezusa w potrzebującym człowieku?
ŚW. FRANCISZEK
Św. Franciszek z Asyżu, obchodzi swoje święto w dniu
4 października. Założyciel zakonu Franciszkanów, jest szczególnie
znany z hojności dla biednych i gotowości do służenia trędowatym.
Jest również wspominany przez wielu jako wielki miłośnik zwierząt
i przyrody. Dlatego wielu nauczycieli, opiekunów oraz organizacji
praw zwierząt wykorzystuje ten dzień jako okazję do nauczania
dzieci o zagrożonych lub maltretowane zwierzętach.
FUNDACJA PRZYJACIÓŁ JANA PAWŁA II
W sobotę, 1 października, Waszyngtoński Oddział Fundacji
Przyjaciół Jana Pawła II będzie obchodzić swoje doroczne
wydarzenie "Wadowice-on-the Potomac”, aby kontynuować
dziedzictwo pontyfikatu Jana Pawła II, życie tego świętego
człowieka oraz jego pracę. Fundacja została założona w 1981 roku
przez Ojca Świętego. W tym roku specjalnym odznaczeniem
zostanie uhonorowany nasz proboszcz, ks. prałat Antoni Czarnecki.

Altar Guild potrzebuje dodatkowych wolontariusz do pomocy przy
sprzątaniu kościoła. Nie jest to ciężka praca, a czas naj jej
wykonanie też jest elastyczny. Zwracamy się do Was jako
„chrześcijańskich zarządców” prosząc, byście rozważyli możliwość
wyrażenia wdzięczności za obfitość błogosławieństw Bożych
poprzez poświęcenie swojego czasu w służbie wspólnocie.

POTRZEBNA POMOC
Zwracamy się do wszystkich parafian z pilną prośbą o pomoc dla
rodziny z naszej szkoły, która potrzebuje pomocy finansowej
z powodu nieprzewidzianych problemów. Bez tego wsparcia rodzice
nie będą w stanie zapewnić dzieciom możliwoście kształcenia sie a
szkole katolickiej. Jako troskliwa wspólnota parafialnej, ważne jest,
abyśmy pospieszyli z pomocą bliźniemu w poprzez akt ten

NOWENNA O ŚW. JÓZEFA
Zachęcamy parafian i przyjaciół, aby dołączyli do nas w środę,
28 września o godzinie 19:00 na Mszy św. do Miłosierdzia Bożego
i Nowennie do św. Józefa. Ponieważ żyjemy w stresującym czasie
z powodu wielu ogólnoświatowych konfliktów, jest to doskonała
okazja, aby prosić przez wstawiennictwo św. Józefa
o bezpieczeństwo i ochronę przed złem, które wydaje się czaić się

ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
Przypomnienie - St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club ogłasza doroczne
zapisy nowych członkiń. Parafianki i matki dzieci ze Szkoły św. Józefa
są zaproszone do przystąpienia do tej organizacji, której misją,
od 1953 roku, jest pomoc w utrzymaniu naszej szkoły i wsparcie dla
Sióstr
Felicjanek.

KONCERT ORGANOWY
Darmowy koncert organowy, na którym zagra polska organistka
Mirosława Cieślak odbędzie się w kościele św. Jadwigi,
w Southbridge, w piątek, 30 września, o godzinie 19:00. Pani Cieślak
jest światowej klasy muzykiem. Studiowała i występowała w Polsce,
a także w Niemczech i Holandii. Przez prawie rok była również
dyrektorem muzycznym w naszej Bazylice. W czasie koncertu
zaprezentuje nam utwory włoskich kompozytorów, jak również utwory
polskie w połączeniu ze śpiewem.
Zapraszamy wszystkich bardzo serdecznie.

Otwarte spotkanie odbędzie się w niedzielę, 9 października
o godzinie 13:00. Na spotkaniu dyskutowana będzie przyszłość
funkcjonowania Klubu. Zapraszamy obecnych i byłych członków oraz
zainteresowane osoby do wzięcia udziału w tym spotkaniu. Polska
społeczność była częścią Klubu od ponad 100 lat i nadal potrzebne jest

RELIGIA
Katecheza – Zajecia katechetyczne w poniedziałek, 26 wrzesnia
o godz. 17:00 w szkole
Bierzmowanie – W obecnym roku katechetycznym postanowiliśmy
zmienić nieco formę przygotowania do Sakramentu Bierzmowania.
Spotkania przygotowawcze będą odbywały się w wyznaczone
poniedziałki w szkole. Daty spotkań zostaną ogłoszone w najbliższym
czasie. W SPOTKANIACH PRZYGOTOWAWCZYCH BĘDĄ
BRAĆ UDZIAŁ ZARÓWNO UCZNIOWIE KLASY 11 JAK I
KLASY 10. Uczniowie klasy 10 będą uczęszczać na normalne zajęcia
katechetyczne w poniedziałki, a w wyznaczonym czasie, razem z
kandydatami z kasy 11, będą uczestniczyć w przygotowaniu do
Bierzmowania i na wiosnę wspólnie przystąpią do tego Sakramentu.
