TIME
The holidays are well behind us; the year
stretches out ahead. And what sort of year
will it be? To judge by the words of Jesus in
today’s Gospel, it will be “a year acceptable to
the Lord.” And Jesus surely didn’t mean only
the next three hundred sixty-five days facing
his listeners at that time.
When Jesus announced the “arrival” of God’s favor, it was a
message for all time, for every year. Similarly, we read today
in Nehemiah how the people gathered with solemnity hear
God’s word as though for the first time. They listened, and
then fell to the ground and wept. But the prophet said, “Today
is holy . . . Do not be sad, and do not weep.”
The “year acceptable to the Lord” is the year. The day that
is “holy” is this day. The time to listen is now. What sort of
year will you have? What sort of day? God’s help is always
here. What you do with each day can be holy and acceptable to
the Lord if you but listen to and act on God’s word.
Second collection this week is for Catholic Home Missions.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK
As we open Catholic Schools Week, we are pleased to welcome Most Rev. Robert J. McManus to our Basilica, to celebrate Mass on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 9:30am with participation of
our students, faculty and parents. The children’s choir will
sing during Mass.
Mr. Richard Nowak from Texas, a graduate of SJS and a generous benefactor, will receive the “Partners in Education
Award”. Dr. Delma Josephson, Superintendent of Diocesan
Catholic Schools will honor us by her presence All children,
parents and choir are invited to a reception to meet the Bishop
and enjoy the hospitality of the opening of Catholic Schools
week. The Home School Assoc. , Student Council and Athletic
Dept. will present a brief program for our distinguished guests.
Open house will follow at Saint Joseph School.
Parents of SJS students and those considering SJS as a school
for their children are welcome to take a tour of the school under
the direction of Principal, Mr. Cushing and Dean of Students,
Mr. Skrocki.
We continue with special programs and activities (listed in
our previous bulletins) that will be of interest to our students for
each day of the week .

PASTA SUPPER INVITATION
As part of Catholic Schools Week, the Home School Association invites all parishioners and friends to join us for the Pasta
Supper to be held on Wednesday, January 30th from 4:306:30pm in the school cafeteria. Donation for adults-$5; seniors
and children $3 will be accepted at the door on Wednesday or
for more information call the school at (508) 943-0378.
Catholic Schools Week is a major event in the academic year
of our school and life of the parish. Our forefathers built the
school to preserve and cultivate the spirituality which shapes
the life of young people based on solid principles and faith in
God. After some 120 years, we see how providential the decision has been for our young people in present difficult society.
I invite every parishioner to do something for the school during this special week. The least we can do is to pray for the
success of SJS. You may want to see your Alma Mater today,
with its new educational tools being used and become acquainted with the students, faculty and administration during
open house days (Sun. , Jan. 27th & Wed., Jan. 30th).
FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION
First Friday adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin
after the 8:30am Children’s Mass. All members of the Sacred
Heart Society are invited to participate in the 8:30am children’s
Mass and right after the Liturgy they will recite their usual
prayer with the Litany to Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The Mass at 7:00am for the living or deceased members of
Sacred Heart Society will continue to be scheduled and parishioners including members of the Society are always welcome to
participate.
A Mass in the polish language will be celebrated at 7:00pm.
THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD
On Saturday, Feb. 2, we will observe the feast of the Presentation of the Lord sometimes referred as Candlemass Day. This
day commemorates the presentation of Christ in the temple and
the ritual purification of the Virgin Mary. Blessing of candles
will take place at the 7:00am Mass. Candles will be available
near the sanctuary stairs for a nominal offering or you may
bring your own candles to be blessed which should be lit in
your homes as protection from harm.
FEAST OF SAINT BLAISE
The festivity of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, who is associated with the healing of throats, will be observed on Sunday,
Feb. 3rd. Blessing of throats at Saint Joseph Basilica will take
place after the Vigil Mass on Saturday and after all morning
Masses on Sunday.
SAVE THE DATE-We will hold our Annual Auction and
Beer/Wine Tasting with a Western Theme on April 27th at
200 Sportsman Club beginning at 5:00pm. More details to
follow. At this time we are accepting donations of items,
services and monetary gifts.

School.
Confirmation Class-will next meet on Sunday, February 10th
at 8:30am in the school followed by participation in the Liturgy

A POIGNANT VIEW
From time to time, especially at Christmas time, we receive
touching remarks worth to share:
It was Christmas morning and the entire family was gathered
for Mass at St. Joseph Basilica in Webster, MA. My bride of
42 years, two daughters and their families and my son sat in this
wonderful temple of God that was built by Polish immigrants
over a century ago. I marveled at the beauty I was beholding—
beauty of many forms and types. St. Joseph’s itself is a maze of
gorgeous marble surfaces and columns with breathtaking murals and paintings adorning the ceiling and dome. The light
coming through the magnificent stained glass windows was
shining on brilliant Christmas decorations including a splendid
manger display. And, added to this overwhelming beauty were
the angelic voices of the children’s choir as they ended the ceremony by singing Silent Night.
Witnessing this with my loved ones, tears welled up in my
eyes—tears of joy and tears of gratitude for the many blessings
God has bestowed on me and my family.

Jezus w synagodze w Nazarecie
ogłasza „rok łaski od Pana”. Nie należy
rozumieć tego „roku” w kategoriach
ściśle chronologicznych. Ogłoszony w
Nazarecie na początku publicznej
działalności Jezusa, rok łaski wciąż trwa i będzie trwał aż
do Jego powtórnego przyjścia. Czas, który mamy do
dyspozycji, jest nam podarowany po to, abyśmy usłyszeli
słowo Boga i przyjęli Jego łaskę ofiarowaną w Jezusie
Chrystusie. Prośmy Boga o dar mądrości serca, abyśmy
w pełni skorzystali z podarowanego nam czasu łaski.

W sobotę 2 lutego obchodzimy Uroczystość
Ofiarowania Pańskiego znaną również jako Święto Matki
Bożej Gromnicznej. W ten dzień wspominamy dzień, w
którym Maryja i Józef ofiarowali małego Jezusa Bogu w
świątyni oraz dokonali obrzędu oczyszczenia Maryi.
W czasie Mszy św. o godz. 7:00 rano zostaną
poświęcone świece, które zapalamy w domy prosząc
Boga o wsparcie w chwilach zagrożenia szczególnie w
czasie burz. Świece będą dostępne przy ołtarzu.

TYDZIEŃ SZKÓŁ KATOLICKICH
Rozpoczynając Tydzień Szkół Katolicki pragniemy bardzo
serdecznie powitać w naszej Bazylice Jego Ekscelencję Ks. Bpa
Roberta McManus, jako przewodniczącego uroczystej
Eucharystii z udziałem dzieci, rodziców i pracowników Szkoły
Św. Józefa. Cieszymy się również z obecności Pani dr Delma
Josephson, Superintendenta Szkół Katolickich w naszej
diecezji. Szczególną radością napełnia nas również to, że
absolwent i dobroczyńca naszej szkoły, Pan Richard Nowak, za
swoją dobroczynność otrzyma nagrodę „Partners in Education
Award”.
Po zakończonej modlitwie dzieci, rodzice oraz zaproszeni
goście spotkają się w szkolnej kafeterii gdzie odbędzie się
prezentacja przygotowana przez HSH, Radę Uczniowską i
Grupę Sportową. Po zakończonym spotkaniu wszystkich na
Open House zapraszamy wszystkie dzieci i rodziców
pragnących zapoznać się z naszą szkołą i biorących pod uwagę
Szkołę św. Józefa jako możliwy wariant w procesie edukacji.
Prezentacje szkoły będą przeprowadzali Pan Donald Cushing
oraz Pan Richard Skrocki.
Poprzez kolejne dni tygodnia w szkole będą miały miejsce
różnorodne wydarzenia i atrakcje, o których pisaliśmy w
poprzednich numerach biuletynu.

PIERWSZY PIĄTEK
W tym tygodniu przeżywamy kolejny pierwszy piątek
miesiąca. Chcemy zaprezentować refleksję księdza, który przy
okazji pierwszych piątków posługuje ludziom potrzebującym i
przy okazji odkrywa wartość przywiązania do Eucharystii.
„Odwiedziłem rano chorych. Są to ludzie przeważnie starsi,
którym poruszanie się sprawia problemy. Przychodzę do nich
co miesiąc z Najświętszym Sakramentem. Dzięki temu raz w
miesiącu przeżywam ciekawe doświadczenie kontrastu w
podejściu do Eucharystii wobec tego, co widzę na co dzień (nie
w kościele rzecz jasna). Pragnieniem tych cierpiących ludzi
najczęściej nie jest wyzdrowieć. Oni bardzo często chcą po
prostu jeszcze raz przeżyć Mszę świętą, oni często płaczą z
tęsknoty za Panem Jezusem sakramentalnym, nie mogą się
doczekać księdza w pierwszy piątek. Dziś córka jednej z
chorych osób powiedziała mi, że mama już od piątej rano pyta,
kiedy wreszcie przyjdzie ksiądz z Komunią. Inna chora płakała,
że od dwóch lat już nie była w kościele, a tak bardzo by chciała.
Niesamowicie to kontrastuje z obojętnością wielu nibywierzących wobec Najświętszego Sakramentu. Może cierpienie
pozwala docenić wartość rzeczywistości sakramentalnej i w
ogóle spraw duchowych? A może to po prostu echo
odchodzącego już pokolenia, dla których wiara była od zawsze
kwestią fundamentalną?
W każdym razie dziś pierwszy piątek. Po południu usiądę do
konfesjonału, żeby wyspowiadać tłumy dzieci i może trochę
osób starszych. Dobrze, że jeszcze dzieciom na katechezie się
mówi, że regularna comiesięczna spowiedź jest niezwykle
ważna. Dzięki temu przynajmniej niektóre praktykują pierwsze
piątki. Chociaż ta praktyka coraz częściej niewiele ma
wspólnego z jej pierwotną ideą. Niektóre dzieci się spowiadają
i idą do domu. A sens pierwszego piątku, zgodnie z treścią
objawienia św. Małgorzaty Marii Alacoque, to przyjęcie
Komunii św. wynagradzającej za grzechy lekceważenia,
nieuszanowania i świętokradztwa. Do spowiedzi można
przystąpić w inny dzień, ważne żeby w pierwszy piątek być w
stanie łaski uświęcającej i przyjąć Pana Jezusa, aby
wynagrodzić Mu te wszystkie zniewagi, których doznaje od
wielu ludzi. W dzisiejszym świecie to wezwanie wydaje się być
jak najbardziej na czasie, patrząc na to, jak świat kpi sobie z
Boga. Dobrze, że są jeszcze ludzie, którzy tę piękną praktykę
