TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 13, 2009
The Lord God is my help,
therefore Jam not disgraced.
Isaiah 50:7
Listening and Responding. There are three interwoven
themes in today's readings: listening to God, faith vs. good
works, and losing our life in order to find it. How are they
related?
The Suffering Servant of Isaiah undergoes much distress
and ridicule, but is able to bear it because he has listened to
the promptings of God day after day. The psalm tells us that
God listens, too. God hears our prayers for help and is
always ready to save us. As our faith deepens, so does our
desire to do the works of justice and charity that build up
the reign of God. God directs our actions in ways we often
cannot see, and we don't always see the results. We are
called upon in faith to trust that what we do is enough, and
that willingness to listen to God's promptings will lead us
in the rinht way.
The second collection this weekend is for Phase III
A second collection will not be taken next weekend
CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION
This Sunday at 7 p.m. we will honor Our Lady of Fatima with an
outdoor candlelight procession. The Children of Mary will partake
in the services carrying the statue of Our Lady as we pray the
rosary and sing our praises. We invite all parishioners and friends
to join us, especially the Holy Rosary Sodality.
The flowers in front of the Blessed Mother altar for Our Lady of
Fatima were donated in memory of S. Krystyna Szeniawska
Korczak by daughter Sylwia Kohut.

REFLECTIONS ON CULTURE
The word Culture is used and abused in various ways and forms
in our daily living. Culture is a very complex word and is very
difficult to define. It would be better to describe it. The culture of
the nation encompasses many aspects of its life such as technology,
economy, politics, education, literature and art. There is also a deep
connection between the culture of a nation and the mentality of the
people. Culture represents the state of the nation's mind and spirit,
which continuously influences the mentality of the people as the
Holy Father John Paul II stated in UNESCO: "Man creates
Page 4
culture and culture creates a person. "It is very difficult to separate the
history of the mentality of the people from the history of culture. It is
clear that culture is a common good of the nation, and a fundamental
pillar of its national identity. There are certain qualities which are
characteristic to a given nation because they are the product of
generations who shaped its values, solidified its beliefs and defined its
goals. The Reflections on Culture will be continued in future bulletins.
Please refer to the bulletin ofAugust 23, 2009.
MASS BOOK FOR THE YEAR 2010
Beginning this Monday, September 14t, you will be able to reserve
Masses for the Year 2010. Please remember that the best gift offered for
your family members on the occasion of anniversaries, birthdays,
namedays, and significant events is to offer the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Likewise, the best prayer for the repose of the soul of a loved one is the
Mass. It has been a tradition that people come to the rectory to request
a Mass and receive a card to mail to the family.
The office hours are from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
As usual, we ask you to refrain from requesting Masses by phone.
Exception will be made for those who are homebound.
