Stewardship Note: "Then he asked them, 'Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith? "' (Mark 4:40) The thought of stewardship terrifies some of us. We may feel that we cannot afford to give God a grateful share or to give the first fruits rather than the leftovers. It takes great faith and trust to believe that, just as He calmed the storm and quieted the waves, our God will always provide us with all that we need, if we trust Him enough to give to him first. On Fatherhood. One father is more than a hundred schoolmasters. - George Herbert Whoever is in Christ is a new creation. —2 Corinthians 5:17 Open to God's Word. Today the Church begins a stretch of Ordinary Time that will last for five months The liturgical vigor of the Easter Season and the Ir' Js ' feasts of the Holy Trinity and the Body and Blood of Christ settles down into this long stretch that opens before us. During Ordinary Time the life of Christ is broken "4, '"I'itII •li' open for us by one of the Gospel writers. This year we have been hearing the Gospel of Saint Mark. We begin this week by listening to his account of the Lord Jesus calming the stormy seas. Through this miracle Jesus tests the faith of his followers. As we settle into Ordinary Time let us be open to the power of the word of God to effect change within us. Let us pray that our faith will be strengthened as we grow more and more into faithful disciples. •...... r " f •. . FATHER'S DAY The United States is one of the few countries in the world that has an official day on which fathers are honored by their children. On the third Sunday in June, fathers all across the United States are remembered in prayers, given presents, treated to dinner or otherwise made to DAY r J s p,i,i'c,,. feel special. To all the fathers in our parish, we extend a blessed and HAPPY FATHER'S DAY A Dad is a person who is loving and kind, And often he knows what you have on your mind. He's someone who listens, suggests, and defends, A dad can be one of your very best friends! He's proud of your triumphs, but when things go wrong, A dad can be patient and helpful and strong In all that you do, a dad's love plays a part. There's always a place for him deep in your heart. And each year that passes, you're even more glad, More grateful and proud just to call him your dad! Thank you, Dad... for listening and caring, for giving and sharing, but, especially, for just being you! FATHER S ..... PETER'S PENCE COLLECTION The second collection next weekend in our parish has been designated as a special collection for the Works of the Holy Father. The theme for the 2009 collection, Cast the Light of Christ Upon the World, echoes the theme of the Holy Father's apostolicjourney to the United States last year. While speaking at St. Patrick's Page 3 June 21, 2009 - 21 czerwiec 2009 r. Cathedral in New York City, he said "In the finest traditions of the Church in this country, may you also be the first friend of the poor, the homeless, the stranger, the sick and all who suffer. Act as beacons of hope, casting the light of Christ upon the world." Bishop McManus writes "...your support truly makes a difference, and it is central to the pope's labors for the Church. Let us join the Holy Father in his mission." Last year, the funds collected in the United States made up nearly one-third of all donations worldwide. Your support truly makes a difference, and it is central to the pope's labors for the Church. Word of Life. At 9 weeks after conception unborn children begin thumb-sucking. She taught the students to solve unusual and difficult problems and to think creatively. The students responded well and all were recognized with certificates for their participation: Aaron Holmberg, Nicole Tetreault, Alex Gardner, Kate Drabato, Artur Lachcik, Jacob Mailloux, Kacper Puczydlowski, Matthew Sabacinski, Gordon Ellis, Zachary Mailloux, and Dante Turo. Alex Gardner received a trophy for the highest test score total from our school team. Two mathletes won national awards for excellence within the Middle School Division. RECEPTION AT PAV We extend an invitation to all our parishioners as well as to members of St. Andrew Bobola parish to a farewell reception for Father Ryszard Polek following the 11 a.m. Mass this Sunday at the PAV Club on Ray Street in Webster. You will have the opportunity to extend your well wishes to him as he leaves for his new assignment in Worcester directly upon his return from vacation to Poland. We thank him for all that he did for St. Joseph Basilica and especially for the Polish speaking Catholics, the choirs, the Polish Children's Choir and the altar servers. May his priestly ministry at Our Lady of Czestochowa parish in Worcester be effective, rewarding and fulfilling. Our prayers and best wishes will always accompany his service to God and His Church. WITH SINCERE THANKS! My five years at St. Joseph Basilica parish passed very swiftly. As I leave for my new parish I thank you from the bottom of my heart to all 4those whom the Good Lord set before me during my ministerial! ' service. Thank you to Rev. Msgr. Anthony Czarnecki, Rev. Joseph: Bielonko as well as Father Edward Michalski, and Father Joseph Dudzik with whom I served in this parish. Sincere thanks to the :Felician Sisters, the parish staff, workers, teachers and: students of St. Joseph School as well as the Saturday Polish School, parish organizations, altar servers, choirs, especially the Bazyliszki and their parents. I am very grateful for the example of faith, trust in God and prayers on my behalf, to all the sick whom I have visited in the hospitals, nursing homes and private homes. I thank all the parishioners for' the wonderful five years, for your attendance at Masses, devotions, adoration services and meetings, so that I could build my faith through you, and for all your gestures ofi goodness, cards and well wishes. As I told the students in: school, I'm going from St. Joseph to Our Lady of: Czestochowa. Because St. Joseph and Mary were good friends, I think we also will remain friends. I pray for all of you through the intercession of St. Joseph as well as Our Lady of Czestochowa whose shrine I will visit during my visit to Poland, and upon my return I will serve under her care in Worcester. J, 12 NIEDZIELA ZWYKLA Kada tragedia jest dopuszczona p0 to, by przez niq odnalazi prawdziwe Jycie. By§ w tej tragedii odnalazi prawdziwego Boga, obecnego przy czlowieku. Burza na jeziorze, o ktOrej opowiada dzisiejsza ewangelia to symbol takiej beznadziejnej sytuacji. Wlainie taka sytuacja, a cilej, nasze reakcje, sq wtedy sprawdzianem naszej wiary. Lk, zwqtpienie, poczucie odrzucenia przez Boga pokazuje sIaboé mojego iyciowego fundamentu. Fale uderzajq, a moje 2ycie, moje stare 2ycie, si wali. Ka±da tragedia jest ci dana po to, by przez niq odnalazi prawdziwe Jycie. By w tej tragedii odnalazl prawdziwego Boga. By§ prawdziwie zawolal do Boga, choéby byly to slowa tak biedne, j ak slowa apostolów tonqcych w lodzi: ,,Nauczycielu, nic Ciç to nie obchodzi, ±e giniemyT'. Byli wtedy bardzo prawdziwi. Ich serca zostaly poruszone i poruszone zostalo serce Boga. Nastala cisza Boego zmilowania. o takiej ciszy opowiadal pewien marynarz. Sytuacjajak z Ewangelii. Kiedy pod naporem fal i wichru zaczçla trzeszczeé konstrukcja statku, a zaloga byla ju± przekonana, ±e statek sic za chwilç rozpadnie, on zawolal dononie i z przera±eniem: ,,Jezu, ratuj!" Nastala taka cisza, 2e uslyszal bicie wiasnego serca. Odnalazi swoje serce i odnalazi ±ywego Boga. DZIEIST OJCA W Ameryce Dzieñ Ojca obchodzony jest w trzeciq niedzielc czerwca.
