WELCOME TO OUR 2008 ADVENT PARISH MISSION
Dear Parishioners,
I am happy to announce that beginning on Sunday evening December 7th and continuing
through until Thursday evening, December 11th, Father Provincial, Patrick Woods and Father
John McGowan, two Redemptorist priests, will be conducting and preaching our Advent Parish
Mission. They were with us over a year ago and conducted our Lenten Mission in 2007. We are
so happy that they are returning and will be with us again.
Whenever we hear the word “mission,” many images flash across our minds. There is
“Mission Impossible” and “Mission accomplished,” and the foreign missions. For some people the
word mission brings back memories of stern preachers towering in high pulpits putting the fear
of God and the threat of hell and damnation into the people. That is not what our mission will be
about.
The word mission comes from a Latin word that means, “to be sent.” Jesus sent out the
apostles in pairs to preach the good news of redemption and forgiveness to the four corners of the
world. Fathers Woods and McGowan will lead us in a weeklong experience of preaching, prayer
and grace. It is a special time in a parish, like a retreat, and its purpose will be to create an
atmosphere where we can hear the Word of God and be renewed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
These two very fine Redemptorists will help us realize how much we are loved by God in
Jesus Christ. It is hoped that the awareness of God’s love for us will move us to respond, to be
convinced and renewed over and over again by loving Him in return. This is the Good News that
they will preach: that God loves us first, that He constantly forgives us and needs us to pass on
this Good News to others.
Our Mission preachers, Fathers Woods and McGowan, have preached over 60 Parish
Missions together. They were both born in Brooklyn, NY and have had years of parish, teaching
and preaching experience. Best of all they are good friends and love being Redemptorist priests.
It will not be their job to bring Christ to this parish. The Lord Jesus is already here! He is
present in the sacraments, in your homes, in your work places and most of all in your hearts.
Like St. John the Baptist, Fathers Pat and John will point Him out to us. “Look! There’s the
Lamb of God.” They will help us make connections, to see and experience Him in His many
disguises so we can respond to His great love for us. Their favorite Biblical word is “Emmanuel”
– God with us. In their talks, homilies, liturgies, rituals and services during the week they will
show us His many presences in all the moments of our lives.
A Redemptorist Mission can truly be a time of Great grace, an experience of the Word
made Flesh among us and an occasion of healing, conversion and reconciliation for a parish and
all her people. Please mark your calendars and do yourself a great Advent favor by participating
in our Parish Mission.
If you need a ride to and from each service please let us know. We are also planning a
special service of the Anointing of the Sick for Wednesday December 10th at 11:00AM. Each
evening’s service will be followed by the time for fellowship and refreshment. Please pray for the
success of this important parish spiritual event.

Drodzy Parafianie,
„Otoczmy troską życie” – to hasło programu duszpasterskiego zaproponowane przez
biskupów dla wszystkich wiernych ma nam uświadomić prawdę, że życie każdego z nas jest
wspaniałym darem pochodzącym od Boga, któremu należy się cześć i szacunek.
Słowa te nawiązują do Ewangelii wg św. Jana – „Aby mieli życie i mieli je w obfitości”
(J10,10b). Św. Jan mówi o Dobrym Pasterzu. Jezus nazywa siebie bramą owiec. Jeśli ktoś
wejdzie przez Niego – będzie zbawiony. Jezus ukazuje siebie w opozycji do złodzieja, który
przychodzi po to, aby kraść, zabijać i niszczyć. On, Dobry Pasterz, przychodzi po to, aby
owce miały życie i miały je w obfitości. Misją Jezusa jest obdarowanie człowieka pełnią
życia. W tym biblijnym obrazie pokazana jest troska Boga o to, by stworzony przez Niego
człowiek odkrył, że życie jest darem, zrozumiał jego piękno, potrafił się nim zachwycić i
chciał żyć, wyrażając wielki szacunek do własnego życia, do życia innych ludzi oraz do
stworzonego świata.
Temat zaproponowany w zbliżającym się roku pracy duszpasterskiej trzeba odnieść także do
naszego codziennego życia. Jest ku temu wspaniała okazja, poprzez uczestniczenie w
zbliżających się parafialnych rekolekacjach adwentowych.
Rekolekcje, do których zaproszeni są wszyscy parafianie, są niczym innym jak głębszym
wejściem w siebie, zatrzymaniem się w biegu codzienności, aby zweryfikować swoje
dotychczasowe życie, aby uczyć się pracy nad sobą, aby wejść na nowy etap rozwoju
duchowego. Tego zatrzymania się na moment potrzebuje każdy z nas. Tę potrzebę należy
uświadomić sobie po raz kolejny, aby owocnie przeżyć ten szczególny czas przygotowania na
zbliżające się Święta Bożego Narodzenia.
W tym roku rekolekcje parafialne wygłosi nasz współbrat O. Piotr Chyła, redemptorysta z
Warszawy. O. Piotr, jako były proboszcz parafii Św. Szczepana w Perth Amboy, swoją
obecnością wpisał się w środowisko Polonii na obczyźnie, stąd problemy i tamaty tego
środowiska nie są mu obce. Rekolekcje rozpoczną się w III Niedzielę Adwentu, tj. 14 grudnia
i zakończą się uroczystą Nowenną Nieustanną w środę17 grudnia. Dokładny plan rekolekcji
adwentowych zostanie opublikowany w najbliższym czasie w biuletynie parafialnym. Już
dzisiaj gorąco zachęcamy Was do modlitwy o dobre przeżycie tego szczególnego czasu
rekolekcji. Prośmy Ducha Świętego, aby rekolekcje adwentowe przyniosły obfite owoce dla
każdego z nas. Niech Matka Boża Nieustającej Pomocy pomoże nam gorliwie odpowiedzieć
na zaproszenie do udziału w rekolekcjach adwentowych, których autorem jest Jezus
Chrystus.
