lives, we retain the language and habits of our
native region and family of origin. Should we
return to our home after a long absence, we quickly revert
to its familiar speech and practices. Our deep memory is
reflected in old stories and words and speech patterns.
This familiarity runs like an underground river and accompanies us wherever we go.
Not only do we remember, we are incorporated into
and made part of a greater memory. In remembering and
recollecting, we are in turn gathered up and re-collected.
Today we remember Mary, a small figure travelling
the country roads to visit Elizabeth. All the great pronouncements and dreams of the prophets point to this
time when the Lord’s words to Mary would be gathered
and fulfilled. The memories of her people are alive in her
and memories of her nourish our own living faith.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
Congratulations!!!-to our outstanding group of talented
students who played roles in our Christmas Pageant. It
was a smashing success and we are truly proud of our
young performers. We are grateful to Mr. Cushing, Mr.
Skrocki, Mrs. Karen Lefebvre, faculty and staff members,
parents and school groups who devoted many hours in
preparation for this presentation. This extravaganza delighted the audience and emanated joy and enthusiasm of
our young thespians.
The education at Saint Joseph School is well balanced
with educational achievements and artistic opportunities.

CHRISTMAS VIGIL (WIGILIA)
Monday, Dec. 24th is the Vigil of Christmas. Traditional rituals, symbols of the family Christmas Eve Vigil
began millenniums ago in Poland, Slovakia, and Lithuania and other countries. This Christmas Eve ritual continues wherever the blessed Oplatek, the Christmas Wafer is
shared. The custom seems to unite the past with the present. . . Heaven with earth. An empty place at the table is
in memory of ancestors, departed loved ones or unexpected guests which is based on Scripture that when you
invite a stranger, you invite Jesus.. May this Christmas
Vigil meal unite your family in the spirit of joy, love and
peace.
CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
The world celebrates the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ every year with renewed interest, intensified
joy and anticipation. The prayers, Masses, good deeds,
acts of kindness and charity are our Christian preparation
for this meaningful season. Other connected activities
such as sending Christmas cards, buying and wrapping
gifts, baking and cooking favorite food and singing
Christmas Carols has become an integral part of Christmas preparation. Like Mary and Joseph we are preparing
and waiting. The waiting has a special meaning. It
means that we do not lock ourselves in a narrow confinement of our personal interest or our own judgment, but we
are open to the needs of others. Waiting means that we
changed our attitude and we become aware of the needs
of our neighbors and share human solidarity. Waiting
means that we feel responsible for this common heritage
whose name is St. Joseph Basilica. This name defines us,
challenges us, and costs us, and whatever costs us has
value and meaning.
This great feast of the Nativity celebrates the closeness
of God to us, born into our ordinary life. It is a mystery
that stretches our minds beyond its limit, moving us toward that horizon where time touches eternity. The new
born child is our living link with God.
Together with Father Gregory, Parish Council, Finance
Board, Parish Ministries, Felician Sisters and School children, we wish you a Blessed, Joyful and Holy Christmas
Day. May Jesus find a home in your heart.

CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE 2012
Christmas is the most sacred day in the liturgical year
and therefore we celebrate Christmas Day, first in
Church, by participating in Divine Worship, which follows with the tradition of opening gifts, etc. Celebrating
Christmas at home without Church is an empty ritual and
unthinkable for a person who professes faith in Jesus
Christ.
The Christmas celebration will begin with the vigil
Mass at 4:00pm on Monday, Dec., 24th. The Senior
Choir and children will enhance the vigil liturgy. The
bilingual celebration at midnight will begin at 11:30pm
with a Christmas concert of the St. Joseph Basilica Choir,
followed by a candlelight procession with the children to
the manger and the blessing of the crèche. During the
meditation, the children accompanied by musical instruments, will share an inspiring Christmas message.
The Christmas morning Masses will begin at 8:15am.
The family Mass for all the parents and children of St.
Joseph School as well as the Religious Education students
will be celebrated at 9:30am. The children will be asked
to re-enact the Gospel, sing in the choir and participate in
the offertory procession.
In this special and sacred time everyone is invited and
urged to come to church and participate in the Eucharist.
May I ask family members to arrange your social activities that will allow every child the opportunity to attend
divine worship on Christmas. The altar servers are requested to report for their respective Masses 20 minutes
before the beginning of the liturgy.
All the choirs of our Basilica accompanied by musical
instruments have spent a lot of time in preparing their
presentation of the carols; the Altar Guild devoted their
talents to provide inspirational decorations to recall the
first Christmas. Therefore, we kindly ask you to invite
your family members and friends to experience the traditional Christmas spirit at St. Joseph Basilica.

SCHOOL SECURITY
After the tragedy in Newtown, Ct, all the schools in our
country are reviewing their security procedures, introducing
new safety measures, training teachers, exercising drills, etc.
These are legitimate and timely concerns. Likewise, St. Joseph
School is aggressively reviewing the safety of our children by
holding meetings with S.W.A.T. team experts from MA and
CT, and our local Webster Police Officers. We are taking every
conceivable precaution to continue to secure the safety of our
students.
This tragedy in Newtown, unique in our history, will linger
in our memories for a long time and will be judged on its own
merits. However, you can ask what values, if any, formed the
perpetrator’s mind. Was his mother providing him with shelter
and food like for an animal, or was his heart and mind being
formed based on a solid outlook on life? In addition in recent
months, we witnessed several incidents of killings of parents,
by their sons. It would be interesting to conduct a study on how
such individuals were raised in their formative years. In the
18th century, French philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rousseau
promoted stress free education, with no values, until the person
became mature enough to choose. As a result his son wanted to
kill him. History tends to repeat itself as it did last week.
School exists to educate and form the human person. The
formation policy has to take under consideration all aspects of
human life, physical, psychological, spiritual and social. (see
our bulletin dated 12/2/12) Beginning with Greek culture,
philosophers, Plato and Aristotle, stated there are certain
principles which are unquestionable when it comes to the
education of children. These principles have to be based on
natural law and obedience to God, otherwise the person lives in
a self-deceptive mental state of ignorance, false beliefs,
unwanted attitudes and misguided emotions. Education without
values which doesn’t take into consideration all the aspects of a
human being creates an unfit social monster capable of any
crime.

National Migration Week-starts on Sunday, January 6th at
the 9:30am Family Mass and will conclude on January 12th.
Old Testament Lecture Course-published by The Great
Courses is being offered at St. Anthony of Padua beginning on
Monday, Jan. 7th at 9:30am. There are 24 sessions and you can

Catholic School Week-celebration begins on Sunday, January 27 through Saturday, February 2nd.
Holy Rosary Sodality-Annual Oplatek Dinner to be held
on Sunday, January 13th at Point Breeze Restaurant. Tickets

DZIELENIE SIĘ RADOŚCIĄ
Częstym tematem ludzkich spotkań i rozmów są
codzienne kłopoty i bolączki. Dominujący ton
dialogów to użalanie się i utyskiwanie. Tymczasem
w dzisiejszej liturgii dwie kobiety oczekujące
dziecka nawiązują rozmowę w zupełnie innej
tonacji: w duchu uwielbienia i dziękczynienia. Dla
nas, którzy wkrótce zasiądziemy przy wigilijnym
stole, jest to przypomnienie, jak ważne w naszym życiu jest
dzielenie się radością.
Druga kolekta w następną niedzielę będzie przeznaczona
na pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.

PRZEDSTAWIENIE ŚWIĄTECZNE
Gratulacje dla naszych wspaniałych i utalentowanych uczniów,
którzy wzięli udział w tegorocznym przedstawieniu świątecznym. Był
to wspaniały sukces i jesteśmy prawdziwie dumni z naszych młodych
aktorów. Jesteśmy również wdzięczni panu Cushing’owi, panu
Skrocki’emu i pani Lefebvre oraz innym pracownikom i
nauczycielom, a także rodzicom, którzy poświęcili wiele godzin
wytężonej pracy na przygotowanie tego przedstawienia.
WIGILIA
Tegoroczna Wigilia przypada w najbliższy poniedziałek. Wiele
wigilijnych tradycji bierze swój początek wiele stuleci temu w Polsce,
Słowacji i na Litwie. Ten wigilijny zwyczaj trwa wszędzie,
gdziekolwiek ludzie łamią się opłatkiem. Łączy on w sobie przeszłość
z przyszłością… niebo z ziemią. Puste miejsce przy stole jest
wspomnieniem naszych przodków, bliskich którzy odeszli oraz
niewidzialnego gościa, Jezusa Chrystusa. Przygotowując to miejsce
mamy nadzieję, ze ten „niespodziewany Gość” przybędzie i
pobłogosławi rodzinne zgromadzenie. Mówi się „Gość w dom, Bóg w
dom” Trzynaście dań przygotowuje się ku pamięci 12 Apostołów i
naszego Pana.
ŚWIĄTECZNE PRZESŁANIE
Świat świętuje narodziny Jezusa każdego roku z coraz to nowym
zainteresowaniem i zaangażowaniem. Msze święte, modlitwy, dobre
uczynki, czyny miłosierdzia i dobroci są naszą chrześcijańską drogą na
przygotowanie się do tego niezwykłego czasu. Również inne
czynności takie jak wysyłanie życzeń, kupowanie i przygotowywanie
prezentów, gotowanie tradycyjnych potraw… stały się integralnym
elementem świątecznych przygotowań. Tak jak Józef i Maryja:
przygotowujemy się i czekamy. Oczekiwanie ma szczególne
znaczenie. Oznacza, że nie zamykamy się w ciasnocie własnych
interesów czy własnych osądów, ale jesteśmy otwarci na innych i ich
potrzeby. Oczekiwanie oznacza, że zmieniamy naszą postawę i
zaczynamy być świadomi potrzeb naszych bliźnich i rozwijamy ludzką
solidarność. Oczekiwanie oznacza, że czujemy odpowiedzialność za
dziedzictwo, któremu na imię Bazylika św. Józefa. To imię definiuje
nas, jest dla nas wyzwaniem i wymaga poświęceń, a cokolwiek jest
kosztowne, posiada swoją wartość i znaczenie.
To wspaniałe Święto Narodzenia celebruje bliskość Boga z nami.
Boga, który urodził się w zwykły ludzki sposób. Jest to misterium,
które przekracza nasze umysły, popycha nas poza horyzont, za którym
czas dotyka wieczności. Nowonarodzone dziecię łączy nas z Bogiem.
Razem z księdzem Grzegorzem, Siostrami Felicjankami, Radą
Parafialną, Radą Ekonomiczną oraz wszystkimi posługującymi w
parafii życzymy błogosławionych i radosnych Świąt Bożego
Narodzenia. Niech Jezus znajdzie dom w waszych sercach.

PODZIĘKOWANIE.
Polska Sobotnia Szkoła bardzo dziękuje wszystkim Gościom i
Sponsorom za wsparcie naszej zabawy andrzejkowej, na której
świetnie się bawiło ponad 170 osób. Wszyscy chwalili wyśmienite
jedzenie, pyszne desery i zakąski oraz liczną loterię fantową!
Dziękujemy Orawie i Smart Plaza za ofiarowanie półmisków z
wędlinami, p. Urszuli Kokosinski za zafundowanie pączków, i
wszystkim Rodzicom ze szkoły i przyjaciołom za pyszne zakąski,
desery i dogrywki. Szczególnie dziękujemy Jarkowi Gronkowi i
Tadkowi Sudyce za ofiarowanie $500 od ich firmy oraz Kasi
Kalinowski również za $500 na naszą szkołę. To właśnie dzięki tak
wspaniałym przyjaciołom jak Wy nasza szkoła może funkcjonować i
rozwijać się. Bóg zapłać!
NABOŻEŃSTWA ŚWIĄTECZNE
Świętowanie Bożego Narodzenia rozpoczynamy w poniedziałek
Mszą Wigilijną o godz. 16:00. Oprawę muzyczna na tej Mszy
zapewnia Chór Angielski i Chór Dziecięcy.
Pasterka (dwujęzyczna) zostanie odprawiona o północy, a pół
godziny przed nią koncert kolęd w wykonaniu Chóru Polskiego.
Liturgia rozpoczyna się procesją ze światłami i błogosławieństwem
Żłóbka.
W Dzień Bożego Narodzenia pierwsza Msza św. zostanie
odprawiona o godz. 8:15. Msza rodzinna dla rodziców i dzieci za
Szkoły św. Józefa o godz. 9: 30. Dzieci prosimy o wzięcie udziału w
inscenizowaniu ewangelii, śpiewie i w procesji z darami.
W tym szczególnym czasie każdy jest zaproszony do udziału w
Eucharystii. Bardzo prosimy o takie zaplanowanie wydarzeń
świątecznych, aby znalazło się pośród nich miejsce na Mszę św.
Ministranci proszeni są o przybywanie na Mszę 20 min przed
rozpoczęciem.
Wszystkie chóry poświęciły mnóstwo czasu na przygotowanie
swoich wystąpień, członkowie Altar Guild dołożyli wszelkich starań,
aby wspaniale udekorować naszą Bazylikę. Dlatego tym bardziej
zapraszamy i prosimy o przekazywanie zaproszenia krewnym i
przyjaciołom na uroczyste przeżywanie Bożego Narodzenia w
Bazylice św. Józefa.
BEZPIECZEŃSTWO W SZKOLE
Po tragedii, jaka miała miejsce w Newtown CT wszystkie szkoły w
naszym regionie odnawiają procedury bezpieczeństwa, ustanawiają
nowe przepisy, szkolą nauczycieli i uczniów, etc. To co się wydarzyło
jest ewenementem na skalę stulecia i pozostanie w naszej świadomości
na bardzo długo, jeśli nie na zawsze. Rodzą się pytania, co

emocjonalne. Edukacja bez wartości nie bierze pod uwagę wszystkich
aspektów istoty ludzkiej i kształtuje społecznego potwora zdolnego do
