Czynności, których wykonawca nie jest znany lub istotny, np.:
The window was broken last night.

Zjawiska, procesy lub mechanizmy, np.:


Czynności lub sytuacje, w których chcemy podkreślić, kto jest wykonawcą lub
autorem dzieła. Rzeczownik oznaczający wykonawcę lub autora
wprowadzamy za pomocą by, np.:
The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell.

nie jest typowa. Jeśli chodzi o czasowniki modalne, to w konstrukcji w stronie biernej
nie zmieniają one swojej formy. Transformacji ulega jedynie czasownik występujący
po czasowniku modalnym, np.:
She can't write that report. - That report can't be written by her.
We must do homework - Homework must be done.
