- HERE COMES EVERYBODY
This popular way of describing the universality of our Church is a theme of today’s readings. The prophet Isaiah tells of
God’s servant who will be the “light of the nations”. It will not
be enough for this servant only to bring back the survivors of
Israel’s dispersion and captivity. God’s salvation must reach to
the ends of the earth.
Saint Paul writes to a local church of mainly Gentiles and
presumably former sinners of all kinds in Corinth. He greets
them and tells them that they are to take their place with “saints
everywhere” in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Gospel reading from John tells of Jesus’ commissioning
by the Father in the Holy Spirit to bring salvation to all, to take
away the sins of the world. This Chosen One has come to baptize the world in God’s Spirit. Everybody.
As you hear these words, consider your own task to bring the
good news of salvation to everyone you will meet in the coming days, weeks, years.
This weekend’s second collection is for the Catholic University of America.
LOVE OF PARISH
I am deeply moved by the recognition as Woman of the Year
at St. Joseph Basilica Parish. I serve out of love for my parish
and in gratitude to God for a lifetime of blessings received. I
am grateful for the opportunity to do so. I must acknowledge

Guild and friends who are always willing to answer my call for

CHRISTMAS SEASON REFLECTION
This is the last week of our Nativity Christmas display in our
Basilica. Whenever we put away Christmas decorations we
experience a sense of emptiness and nostalgic feeling. The
Christmas Season provided us with an uplifting message because Baby Jesus, the little love, born in Bethlehem, has the
power and ability to ignite the world with new hope, vision and
purpose.
This year many people from different cities and states participated in our Christmas Liturgy and visited our Basilica almost
on a daily basis. It was a sign that people are in search for
something deeper in life than only material gains or selfish
goals. All the devotional services, masses, children choirs',
indoor and outdoor decorations, helped us to intensify and absorb the true message of Christmas.
I am most grateful to many individuals who with total dedication offered their talents, time and many financial resources
to prepare our Basilica for this unique season of the year. As
we leave this special time let us take for the journey of the
New Year the message of Christmas which is love, joy, peace
and service to God. This is the perennial mystery of the Christmas season.
This year we recorded a new Polish Christmas CD featuring
our Basilica Choir under the direction of Robert Wojcik. We
are pleased that the CD was a “sell out”. At the request of several individuals we have re-ordered an additional 100 copies
which will be available this weekend. May God bless all those
who made this Christmas Season more enjoyable for all of us.
NOVENA AND DEVOTIONS TO ST. JOSEPH
Novena and Devotions to St. Joseph, defender and Patron of
the Catholic Church, will be held on Wed., Jan. 22nd at
7:00pm. The St. Anne Society will process with the statue of
St. Joseph from the Chapel of Our Lady of Czestochowa to the
sanctuary.
We should recommend ourselves to St. Joseph who, after the
Blessed Virgin Mary, is the most influencial of all the saints
with God. Let us ask him for the special graces that are available to all those who have confidence in his powerful intercession. If you need a prayer to St. Joseph in your particular intention, state of life or vocation, please contact the rectory.
Please use the prayer intention request forms available in the
chapel. Please print your intentions legibly and place in the
box provided. We encourage members of the St. Anne Society,
parishioners and friends to join us on Jan. 22nd.

Diocese of Worcester Annual Report on Financial Activities FY 2013. Bishop Robert J. McManus asks that we share this report
with all the Catholics of the Diocese. He emphasized that we provide services and support ministries for all people because we are
Catholics. Bishop McManus’ hope is that during the coming year, the Diocese of Worcester will prove to be a zealous and effective

CATHOLIC SCHOOL WEEK (JAN. 26 - FEB. 1)
2014 Theme “Communities of Faith, Knowledge & Service”
The theme encompasses several concepts that are at the heart of a Catholic Education. Schools are indeed communities,
small families in their own right, but also members of a larger community of home, church, city and nation. Faith, knowledge
and service are the three measures by which any Catholic School should be evaluated and judged. St. Joseph School has a
variety of activities to address each of these objectives which constitute the Catholic identity of our school.
Sunday, Jan. 26—opening of Annual Catholic Schools Week at Family Mass at 9:30am with Main Celebrant and Homilist,
Msgr. James Moroney, Rector of St. John’s Seminary. The “Partners in Education Award” will be presented to two prominent individuals who distinguished themselves with educational support of St. Joseph School children. After Mass a reception
will be held in the school cafeteria for recipients of the award, students and parents. Open house tours and HSA Book Fair
begin at 11:00am.
Monday, Jan. 27 - students of St Joseph School will participate in various Service Projects, including food drive for Food
Share entitled “Pantry Stuffing” and all grades making wellness cards for residents of nursing homes.
Tuesday, Jan. 28 - Student Appreciation Day, Two professional Puppet shows for all grades.
Wednesday, Jan. 29 - “Seven Continents” display in classrooms; Annual Pasta Dinner and Open House 5-7:00pm with
HSA Book Fair in gym.

"Ustanowię cię światłością dla pogan, aby moje zbawienie dotarło aż do
krańców ziemi." (Iz 49, 6b)
Fragment dzisiejszej Ewangelii mówi
o wyznaniu wiary Jana Chrzciciela w Bóstwo
Jezusa Chrystusa. Wyznanie to czyni z syna
Elżbiety i Zachariasza drogowskaz wskazujący
drogę innym. Po jego słowach: „Oto Baranek Boży”, na drugi
dzień, dwaj uczniowie Chrzciciela – późniejszy autor czwartej
Ewangelii Jan oraz brat Szymona Piotra, Andrzej – opuścili
mistrza i powędrowali za Jezusem. Kto twierdzi, że wiara to
jego prywatna sprawa, winien głębiej przemyśleć Chrystusowe
słowa: „Wy jesteście światłością świata”. Wynika z nich, że
otrzymaliśmy wiarę nie po to, by oświecała jedynie nasze serca,
ale świat! To oświecanie świata dokonuje się często przez
publiczne wyznanie wiary. Najprostszą formą publicznego
wyznania wiary jest udział w niedzielnej Eucharystii. Już samo
wędrowanie do kościoła jest wyznaniem naszej wiary, nie
mówiąc o obecności przy ołtarzu, wspólnej modlitwie, śpiewie,
czy przyjmowaniu Komunii świętej.

Jestem głęboko poruszony uhonorowaniem mnie tytułem
Kobiety Roku w parafii Bazyliki św. Józefa. Służę mojej parafii
z miłości i wdzięczności Panu Bogu za otrzymane w życiu łaski
i błogosławieństwa. Jestem wdzięczna, że mogę w ten sposób
okazywać wdzięczność. Muszę przy okazji podziękować za
wsparcie ze strony mojej rodziny i Altar Gild oraz przyjaciół,
którzy są zawsze gotowi odpowiedzieć na moją prośbę o
pomoc, gdy tylko jest potrzebna. Niech Bóg błogosławi naszej

POŚWIĄTECZNA REFLEKSJA
To ostatni tydzień w naszej Bazylice, kiedy możemy
podziwiać świąteczne dekoracje. Za każdym razem, kiedy
zdejmujemy ozdoby świąteczne doświadczamy poczucia pustki
i uczucia nostalgii. Czas Bożego Narodzenia przynosi nam
podniosłą nowinę, że Dzieciątko Jezus, maleńka miłość,
narodzona w Betlejem, ma moc i możliwość, aby rozpalić w
świecie nową nadzieję, wizję i cele.
W tym roku wiele osób z różnych miast i stanów
uczestniczyło w liturgii Bożego Narodzenia i odwiedzało naszą
Bazylikę prawie każdego dnia. Jest to znak, że ludzie poszukują
w życiu czegoś głębszego niż tylko korzyści materialne lub
spełnienie egoistycznych celów. Wszystkie nabożeństwa, Msze
św., śpiewy chórów, dekoracje wewnątrz i na zewnątrz
świątyni, pomagały nam zintensyfikować i lepiej przyswoić
prawdziwe orędzie Bożego Narodzenia .
Jestem bardzo wdzięczny wielu osobom, które z ogromnym
oddaniem ofiarowały swoje talenty, czas i środki finanse, aby
przygotować naszą Bazylikę na ten wyjątkowy czas. Kończąc
ten szczególny okres, wnieśmy w Nowy Rok orędzie Bożego
Narodzenia, którym jest: miłość, radość, pokój i służby Bogu.
W ubiegłym roku powstała nowa płyta zawierające polskie
kolędy w wykonaniu chóru pod kierunkiem Roberta Wójcika.
Cieszymy się, że zaoferowany materiał tak bardzo przypadł do
gustu, iż wszystkie egzemplarze zostały wysprzedane. Na
prośbę kilku osób ciągle zainteresowanych zakupem tej płyty,
zamówiliśmy dodatkowe 100 sztuk, które są już dostępne.
Niech Bóg błogosławi wszystkim, którzy ten czas Bożego
Narodzenie uczynili bardziej radosnym dla nas wszystkich.
NOWENNA I NABOŻEŃSTWO DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
W każdą środę, spotykamy się jako wspólnota, aby prosić o
potrzebne łaski za wstawiennictwem św. Józefa patrona i
obrońcy Kościoła Powszechnego. W tę środę, 22 stycznia w
procesji z figurą św. Józefa, na rozpoczęcie i zakończenie
liturgii będą uczestniczyli członkowie The St. Anne Society.

Niedziela, 26 stycznia - Otwarcie dorocznego Tygodnia Szkół Katolickich na Mszy św. rodzinnej o godz. 9:30 z głównym
celebransem i kaznodzieją ks. prałatem James'em Moroney, Rektorem Seminarium Duchownego Świętego Jana. W czasie Mszy
św. zostaną również wręczone odznaczenia: " Partnerzy w edukacji " dla dwóch wybitnych ludzi, którzy wyróżnili się w pomocy
edukacyjnej dla dzieci w szkole św. Józefa. Po Mszy św. w kafeterii odbędzie się poczęstunek dla laureatów, uczniów i ich

Wtorek, 28 stycznia - Dzień uznania dla uczniów. Dwa profesjonalne pokazy lalek dla wszystkich klas.
Środa, 29 stycznia - ekspozycja " Siedm Kontynentów " w klasach, coroczna Kolacja i Dzień Otwartych Drzwi od godz. 17:00 do
19:00 oraz organizowane przez HSA Targi Książki.
Czwartek, 30 stycznia - Dzień absolwentów. Byli uczniowie SJS będą mówić o swoich doświadczeniach i osiągnięciach.
Piątek, 31 stycznia - Dzień uznania dla rodziców i nauczycieli. Ciastka i kawa będą serwowane od 7:20 do 8:05 rano, dla
rodziców przywożących dzieci do szkoły. Obiad okolicznościowy w południe w kafeterii.
Sobota, 01 lutego - Dzień sportowy. Mecz koszykówki pomiędzy uczniami i nauczycielami o godz. 16:00 w Webster Middle
School.
