PROJECT IDEA: Nowe Gliwice – the project of the City of Gliwice, which aims at
rehabilitation and development of a former Gliwice Coal Mine transforming it
into the Centre of Education and Business.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 'Nowe Gliwice' project is realized by the City of Gliwice
(project coordination and implementation: Local Development Agency Llc.
(Agencja Rozwoju Lokalnego sp. Z o o), cofinanced on behalf of PHARE 2003
programme Socio-Economic Unity and from the budget of the city of Gliwice.
This project concerns transforming the post-industrial areas into the enterprise
zone. The enterprise incubator, business activity zone and the regional training
centre including The Gliwice Enterprise University and the arts professional
studies will develop on the grounds of the closed 'Gliwice Coal Mine. The
undertaking was realized in separate buildings dating back to the beginning of
the 20th century and the state-of-the -art. Office building. The realization of the
project included: recultivation of the post-mining grounds (15.68 ha) and their
management, renovation and conversion of the historic buildings after the
closure of the Coal Mine, construction of the new buildings. As a part of the
project, the most characteristic buildings, previously KWK 'Gliwice' were
adapted/preserved and used for other didactic and business functions: waiting
room - the site of the Gliwice Enterprise University, machine room - offices and
the enterprise incubator; Director's villa - site of the energy business company.
As a part of the project, the investment plots for the entities interested in direct
investment in this region were fitted.
AIMS OF THE PROJECT: Transformation of the post-industrial zones into
economic zone. Recultivation and revitalization of the areas and post-industrial
buildings, preserving cultural heritage and the historic image of the region,
creating favourable conditions for the development of small and average size
companies sector, creating new workplaces, development of higher education,
creating favourable conditions for setting up companies by the graduates

Programme, 14.69 mln Euro - from the budget of the City of Gliwice
