DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA
November 9, 2014
The LORD of hosts is with us; our stronghold is the God of
Jacob.
- Psalm 46:8
THE TEMPLE AND WORSHIP
In all of today’s readings. The temple is
prominently mentioned. Ezekiel speaks of
streams of living water flowing out from the
temple, watering the desert, bringing life to all
living things, offering fresh healing to God’s people.
Paul reminds the Corinthians that their faith rests upon the
firmest of foundations, Christ himself. More than that, Paul
reveals that those who follow Christ are themselves temples,
temples of the Holy Spirit; that is, God dwells not only with
them, but in them.
For the Jews of Jesus’ time, the temple had come to be identified with the presence of God and the only place where authentic worship of God took place. Jesus had a different perception. Jesus identified himself not with the temple, but as the
temple. In so doing, Jesus indicated a dramatic shift in what it
means to worship God, to be in God’s presence. No longer was
a place to be the focus of prayer. Instead, a person, the person
of Jesus Christ, becomes the center of our worship
This week’s second collection is for
Higher Energy and Fuel Costs.
Next weekend’s second is designated
to assist the victims of the Middle East violence.
Reminder: The St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club “Splash of
Panache” vendor event will be held on Sun., Nov. 9th at Point
Breeze Restaurant from 1-5:00pm. Join us for an afternoon of
fun, friendship, special gifts raffle, lottery raffle, attendance
raffle and much, much more. Tickets will be sold after Masses
this weekend.
Bereavement Committee - wishes to thank all those who
participated in the Annual Remembrance Mass on Sunday,
Nov. 2, All Souls Day.
A special thank you to V. Henrietta Panu for her calligraphy
expertise in listing all the names of the deceased in our Memory
Book. This special book is displayed near the Sacred Heart
Altar during the month of November.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
This weekend , Nov. 8th & 9th, our Basilica Chapter of the
Knight of Columbus are asking for donation at all Masses to
purchase Thanksgiving turkeys to help those in need. It is our
ninth year to help feed and brighten the day for at least some of
these families. Thank you for your support.
VETERAN’S DAY– is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans
It is a federal and state holiday and will be observed on Tues.

PARISH COUNCIL MESSAGE
Following last week’s announcement we would like to remind our parishioners that our Parish obligation to the Diocese
bill is $6000-$7000 per month. The income from our monthly
envelope collection covers less than half of the bill. We make
every effort to pay the bill in full, however, other bills remain
unpaid.
It is the kind request of the members of the Parish Council
that we should increase our weekly offertory. We thank you in
advance for your understanding in the spirit of discipleship.
We are grateful to many generous individuals who already donate above the suggested scale printed on the envelopes.
Parish expenses have been reduced in every possible way and
we cannot afford to dismiss personnel if we want to remain a
viable community.
Always grateful, - Your Parish Council
“When we take a step of faith and trust in God, we can
never out-do Him. Blessings in some way always come back
to the giver”.
PARISH COUNCIL - invites you to a Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner (turkey and all the fixings) on Sat., Nov. 15th
after the 4:00pm Mass in the school cafeteria. Tickets are
$10pp; $5 for children under 12 and toddlers free. Tickets will
be sold after masses on Nov. 8th and 9th or at the rectory.
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
Every Wednesday at 7:00pm we ask parishioners and friends,
who seek Divine assistance in their personal and family life
through the intercession of St. Joseph, to join us for the Novena
prayer. The primary role of not only St. Joseph, but all the
saints is to lead all people to God. All graces received is obvious proof that God cares for our well being.
On November 12th we ask members of the Knights of Columbus (12980 chapter) to assist in bringing our Patron’s statue
to the Sanctuary. Please use the forms available in the Chapel
to request your petitions. Offerings gladly accepted.
MONTH OF NOVEMBER
All Soul’s Day and the month of November brings our attention to eternal life and the souls of our loved ones who might be
in Purgatory.
I’m glad that many of you scheduled masses for your deceased loved ones, participated in the liturgical service at the
cemetery and placed decorative votive lights at the gravesites
accompanied with your prayers. Some of you also made donations to various charities such as the parish and school in memory of your family members as a sign of their participation in
the mission of the Church. These acts of love, charity and
prayer are the bond to which we are united with those who have
departed this world. Perhaps through these acts you fulfill the
wish and request of your loved one.
It has been widely discussed that sometimes good Catholics
were deprived of a funeral mass which they rightfully deserve
in virtue of their baptism. Please inform your wishes for a
Catholic funeral to your children, funeral director and parish to
make certain that masses and charitable donations in your memory are justified.

BACK TO THE CHURCH WEEKEND
Across the Diocese there is a common concern for the salvation of those who disregard Jesus’ teachings and His Church
and do not participate in Divine Worship. This is being called
stewardship renewal, entitled “Back to Church Weekend”. To
help to bring these people back to Church is the obligation of
everyone, priests, deacons, family members, friends, etc.
We would like to invite those individuals who have drifted
away from the Church to join us on Saturday - November 15th
for 4:00pm Mass followed by (Thanksgiving Supper), or on
November 23-Christ the King and November 30—First Sunday
of Advent for Liturgical Services.
You may offer to accompany them to Church or provide us
with their names. Above all pray to the Holy Spirit to enlighten
their mind and heart. To bring someone back to the Church is a
great act of evangelization and discipleship.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
TRZYDZIESTA DRUGA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA
9 listopada 2014
(Ps 46, 8)
Obchodzimy rocznicę poświęcenia pierwszej
chrześcijańskiej świątyni. Wydarzenie to miało
miejsce w Rzymie, 9 listopada 324 roku.
We
To dar
największy z możliwych i wyraz naszej ludzkiej godności.
ST. JOSEPH POLISH WOMEN’S CLUB
zapowiadany „Spash of Penanch” vendor event.

i delikatnej sprawie. – Rada Parafialna

sprawach poprzez wstawiennictwo św. Józefa w czasie

samego początki, poprzez całe nasze życie
