„Dramat i powieść amerykańska XX wieku”
Na seminarium skoncentrujemy się na amerykańskim dramacie i powieści XX wieku, ze
szczególnym uwzględnieniem ostatnich 50 lat. Zajmiemy się współczesnymi poetykami
dramatu i powieści jak również aktualnie popularnymi podejściami do analizy i interpretacji
utworów. Omawiane będą przede wszystkim te, które budzą wśród seminarzystów największe
zainteresowanie. Seminarium ma przygotować studentów do napisania pracy magisterskiej.
Studenci zapoznają się ze współczesnymi metodami badawczymi, wykorzystaniem
internetowych źródeł informacji naukowej oraz metodologią pisania prac naukowych. Do
końca pierwszego semestru seminarzyści powinni zaproponować temat swojej pracy
magisterskiej i przedstawić wstępną bibliografię do pracy. Zaliczenie semestru drugiego
będzie uzależnione przede wszystkim od stopnia zaawansowania pracy nad magisterką, czyli
przedstawieniem rozwiniętej bibliografii, konspektu pracy lub jej planu i jednego rozdziału.

My MA seminar will be devoted to research into twentieth and twenty-first century British and
Irish poetry and fiction, although I am open to suggestions of topics outside this range of subjects.
Moje seminarium magisterskie będzie poświęcone badaniom na temat brytyjskiej i irlandzkiej
prozy i poezji XX oraz XXI w. Jednak jestem otwarty na ciekawe propozycje tematyczne poza tym
zakresem.
Contemporary American Literature and Culture: Traditions and New Trends

During the seminar we will discuss major trends in the history of the American novel and American
culture from the mid-1960s until the early 21st century. We will talk about cultural dialogue and
political challenges that American culture faces and see how they may affect the interpretation of
individual literary texts/films. We will look at narrative, aesthetic, ideological, ethnic and racial
heterogeneity and multivocality of the contemporary US culture and the way it modifies the notion
of canon and mainstream. Selected literary texts/films will be used to illustrate the emergence and
evolution of postmodernism and the transformation of realism in the late 20th –early 21st centuries.
It is expected that in-depth analysis of these texts will also help us to get sense of the overall literary
and cultural atmosphere of the after-Postmodernism time.
Reading list will be presented at the beginning of the seminar.
