SECOND COLLECTION
Next weekend we will take up a second collection to
support COMMUNICATIONS. The Church’s efforts to
“spread the Good News”, as Jesus commanded, includes
radio, TV, the print media and the internet. In today’s world
all of these are necessary in bringing the message of the
Gospel to everyone. Half of what is collected stays right
here in our Diocese, the rest is used throughout the wider
Church. Your generosity is appreciated.

OUTREACH PROGRAM
We wish all the Mothers, Grandmothers, Godmothers and all who have motherly instincts a very special and Happy Mother’s Dayl
We thank all who participated in our Job Fair and
made it so successful for the businesses and the
job seekers. We had a nice turn-out and the final
analysis was that it was well worth the time spent
in organizing it.
With the nice (?) weather upon us, we are seeing
an increase in the number of homeless coming to
us for assistance. We try to give them the most
nourishing food available. We have vitamin water
and juice for them but we do need pop-top cans of
tuna fish, soup, fruit and breakfast bars or drinks.
(Some of our homeless have an “in” with a local
business and are able to microwave the soup.)

This 6-Hour course is presented by the National
Safety Council-certified instructors, who offer a new
approach to learning accident prevention skills.

Misyjne doświadczenie
W następną niedzielę, 18 maja, będziemy gościli
na polskich mszach Siotrę Grażynę Wojnowską ze
zgromadzenia Sióstr Pallotynek. która od wielu lat
pracuje jako misjonarka w Afryce. S. Grażyna
podzieli się z nami niezwykłym doświadczeniem
swojej misji - pracy i ewangelizowania w ekstremalnie trudnych warunkach życia. W tym dniu
zostanie zebrana druga kolekta na pomoc
placówce misyjnej, gdzie s. Grażyna obecnie
pracuje. Po mszy św. o godzinie 17, będzie też
można spotkać się z siostrą misjonarką w sali pod
kościołem.
PROGRAM POMOCY SOCJALNEJ
Wszystkim Mamom, Babciom, Matkom Chrzestnym
oraz wszystkim Paniom, które pragnęłyby zostać mamami życzymy radosnego Dnia Matki.

Prosimy obecnie żywność szczególnie dla osób bezdomnych: tuńczyka w puszkach łatwych do otwarcia ,

The Fourth Sunday of Easter
In these days of the Easter Season, the scriptures tell us of
some of the appearances of Jesus to his Apostles. He appeared
to the disciples on the road to Emmaus, he served them
breakfast on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he was with them
as he ascended to heaven forty days after his Resurrection. I
cannot help wondering what he did and where he was the rest
of the forty days. One of my fantasies is that he visited the rest
of his world, maybe even came to America. Maybe I am walking
on soil that Jesus walked on! But I digress.
Today both the first and second readings give us a clear
directive for our life’s focus. When asked “What are we to do?”
Peter replied “Repent and be baptized . . . for the forgiveness of
your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”. We
have been baptized, and hopefully continue to repent of our
sins. We have received the gifts of the Holy Spirit in
Confirmation. So what is left for us to do?
Well, in the above, the word “continue” is important to
our repentance. And we also need to pray for the fullness of
the Holy Spirit’s gifts. As we journey toward the Feast of
Pentecost, let us often ask God for this fullness.
In the second reading, St. Peter offers us a succinct
directive: “If you are patient when you suffer for doing what is
good, this is a grace before God”. This second reading deserves
to be reread.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus compares himself to a “good
shepherd”, and explains to the Pharisees “I am the gate for the
sheep. . . Whoever enters through me will be saved.” “I came
so that they might have life, and have it more abundantly!”
Don’t miss out on this abundance!
